Hi Alan,

I'm not sure if you can help me at all. I have a client with a 16v conversion that i've fitted and the damn thing won't start, vag com is telling me its the immobilisor.
I've fitted everything from the donor vehicle and still no start. I do know its an immobilisor problem because the car is an R reg and uses the older 6 pin transponder box instead of the later spec 8 pin. So i used the ecu, transponder, reciever and key from a P reg and it started and ran...

I may have to get this ecu re-coded, but can you bypass the immobilisor? I've spoken to vw and they require the vehicle to plug into their system to get a link direct to germany for the pass code, which i think is crap...but i just need someone to wipe the chip, re-program it to have no immobilisor and i can send you one asap if i dont manage to find an older ecu/transponder setup to use.

If you could pm me your number, it might be easier to explain over the phone...unless your going to edition38, in which case i'm only round the corner and am attending anyway.

Thanks! Sanj.

Have you tried using vagcom to make the new ECU talk to the immobilsor on the car? YOu have to adapt to the Immoboliser to accept the new ECU. If its a 6N these I believe need a dealer code to to the adpation, but all the 6N models can be adapted. I have had to fit replacement ECU's a couple of times.

If you go to the rostech website there is a write up on how to do the ecu adaption. I have not really dug to deep into the 16V code as the remapping was doen by a supplier. I have had reques to remove the imobilset on the 1.6 16v engine, but it would take alot of time to work out the code to crack them.

I'll take a look at Rosstech, thanks for your reply btw. VW told me they'd need a whole new ECU to be able to bypass the immobilisor (B sh*T!).

I have VAG com, but as a handheld scanner...doesn't go into depth like the other ones. The car is booked into at vw, so i have a few choices tomorrow.

Thanks again! Sanj.

Dont you need a prog like vagTacho to read the code? iirc somewhere in my head...

on the older immobilisers (immo 1 and immo 2) you could just go into vagcom and go into adaptation, and reset channel 0... on immo 3 (6n2) you need dealer to plug ECU into a machine, and get it to dial germany.... (unless you have the matching immo3 box and get the eeprom read wink.gif )

on 6n, if on your scan tool you can do adaptation, you should be ok.
