I recently tried some website design at uni and it really is difficult to keep everything to a minimum to avoid cluttering the page. Looks like you've done a good job though man.
Well I've been doing web stuff at uni but as I'm a computer science student not a multimedia or graphics we never cover the design stages just the tech side (and then its a case of markings a tick for each accomplished task or use of certain techniques such as ajax, OO, frameworks, sql, versioning, CRUD.
Also the course isnt very specalised (which I was told it would be as I choose computer science (multimedia) but it only added a really crap flash module and adobe air (which we learned next to nothing beside very very basics). Last module was web application of MVC structures which I produced this

Had the intention of making an admin login for deleting and final editing but never got around to it as never gained me marks and if I wanted that in a site Id just use a already available framework plugin or a wordpress.
But following a number of photoshop tutorials for design then coding them proving very helpful, learned alot about masks and blending methods + allingment and its importance and looking more into typography now which is amazingly boring yet amazingly effective!
