Very nice, very fresh, very clean.
I recently tried some website design at uni and it really is difficult to keep everything to a minimum to avoid cluttering the page. Looks like you've done a good job though man.

Well I've been doing web stuff at uni but as I'm a computer science student not a multimedia or graphics we never cover the design stages just the tech side (and then its a case of markings a tick for each accomplished task or use of certain techniques such as ajax, OO, frameworks, sql, versioning, CRUD.

Also the course isnt very specalised (which I was told it would be as I choose computer science (multimedia) but it only added a really crap flash module and adobe air (which we learned next to nothing beside very very basics). Last module was web application of MVC structures which I produced this https://mi-linux.wlv.ac.uk/~0712186/WebApp/ I like a minimal design as you can see.
Had the intention of making an admin login for deleting and final editing but never got around to it as never gained me marks and if I wanted that in a site Id just use a already available framework plugin or a wordpress.

But following a number of photoshop tutorials for design then coding them proving very helpful, learned alot about masks and blending methods + allingment and its importance and looking more into typography now which is amazingly boring yet amazingly effective!

Ye great start...

I make websites and clean is definitely the new way forward. Look at google with the whole fade-in thing going on to focus completely on the search field. Brands like pepsi have re-branded their bottles/logos etc to be clean and very simple.

If you need any help with this just give me a shout fella.

Indeed, simple, clean, or very bright. Flash while still popular I can see loosing alot of its need as the way web, css , PHP 5 and general web 2.0 style along with ajax and jscript seems to be taking over alot of RICH internet applications ability. Also the accessibility issues of flash, go on a site to be told plug-ins required alot of people will turn back.

Added few more bits now, I know the white appears hard to read on here so the images will be getting a very slight shadow and trust its alot easier to read when bigger.

Yay for cruddy url but free host

Serves no real function yet as its just the main page but will change and populate other pages etc soon

Ye flash is not the best friend of google either so if you want the site to rank well (and quickly) stick to css html. Flash or anything similar should only be used when it's very necessary and the user should'nt really notice it.

It's all about how quickly visitors can find the information THEY are looking for, if not there are a lot more websites a back button click away that will happily tell them.

One thing I would say is that the picture pretty much fills my screen (res 1440 x 900) and I wouldn't have known there was information below had I not seen your pictures on here. I generally leave something poking up at the bottom so people know instantly to scroll down and look at it. The pictures very cool but I would make it a fair bit smaller for that reason to cover most screen res.

crappy free host tongue.gif

Got a cheap host and domain atm so here go -

http://thomasewilliams.co.uk/cooldubbing/

Not change or looked at it since feb, the colour of text is terrible on that backgroup and I've not corrected .png support for older IE (will do at some point)
Prox
Love it man, how do you do the changing image? can't be gif cause the pic quality is too high?

Only thing i'd say is that like the images of the cars at the bottom of the page, make a PNG with a transparent BG cause on my screen its a slight different colour smile.gif
