In the process of doing a bit of research in to engine swaps for a mk4 polo. tried a few searches on here for engine codes but all i come up with is people asking about specific codes. In transplants i have carried out in the past on other cars I like to have a list of all available engine codes with details of cars they are found in, power output (bhp and torque) and number of valves etc.

Does anyone have such a list or know where I can get one?

cheers

Stuart
Gaz
Yeah, I've got a list like that. If I can, I'll post it up later on. its pretty much complete too I think. B)
Gaz
Here you go, sorry its in the form of a pic. It needs to be updated to include the mk7 as well I suppose. surprised.gif
I've missed the first line off the first pic as I'm limited to 600 pixels in height on my image hoster, so I've re-added it with text.

mk1 polo, Audi 50 and mk1 Derby.

Ah thats a neat table gaz, cheers

Gaz

Cheers for that, very helpful.

You can stick it in the FAQ now biggrin.gif

just a quick question...

i have a mk3 GT. was wondering if there is a quick way to tell if my car is the 3F with or without the catalytic convertor?!
Gaz
Look underneath! smile.gif All UK ones have them fitted as standard. According to ETKA, the 3F engine was available for the runout mk2, So it's more likely that those were the versions that came without a cat.
koosh
ah right cheers mate biggrin.gif

just wasnt sure and my car was in the garage for the night.... bit lazy yu know lol.gif

i thought the late model mk4 (AEX i think) were 65bhp? everywhere else has it down as 65bhp?

and the other mk4 1.4s (akv) are 60bhp

those were the official figures that vw gave out and vw/audi always underates the power of their cars too
Gaz
Nope, the AEX was always 60bhp. Anything that would have given it more power would have changed the engine code. Plus any more power and it would be stepping on the toes of the 1.6 8v.

According to etka, the AKV is the late model 1.4, which replaced the AEX in around 1997. The two 1.4s that have 55hp were fitted with automatic gearboxes, although It now seems the APQ engine had 60hp.

You're right about VW/audi often underestimating the power of their engines though.
djdafish
Yeah ETKA lists the APQ engine as being 44KW (which comes out at 59hp)
Gaz
It's as near as makes no differece, VW list the engine as having 60hp in the uk, so that's what I've put. Every bit of data has been gathered from official sources, either from VW brochures, etka or sometimes haynes manuals.
dreleask
woo! I'm on AEE power now! any idea what the torque if it is likely to be?
Gaz
I've updated the list some time ago, but haven't uploaded it. I've just done so now, and it can be downloaded via the link below. I've added lots of new info, including most of the missing engine codes and performance stats. Haven't got round to doing the mk7 yet or a comprehensive list of the saloon/estate engines. But most of the common stuff is there now.

Gaz
Does it download ok? Have you tried right click - > "save as"?

It's an excel file so you need microsoft office to view it.

Which engine codes in the 1.3L engines used solid lifter heads? I would love to get my hands on a 1.3L over here in the states.
Gaz
HH, HK, GF and GK are all solid lifter 1.3s. The GF isn't listed though as it's a golf engine. (it's identical to the HH)

Now I need to find a way to get a motor over here. I also understand the parts for the head (valve seals, springs, retainers, etc) are the same as the big block motors? So I can just get uprated parts from companies here in the states? What about the bottom ends, do they share parts with the big block motors? Bearings, seals, etc.

Link doesn't work for me either Gaz.

Sorry, but you do not have permission to use this feature. If you are not logged in, you may do so using the form below if available.
Gaz
Hmm, you can't right click it. But when I single left click it it works for me. Could be a moderator thing I guess. I'll just take screen shots and upload the photos I think.

Only thing thats the same on the big blocks is the valve springs and the associated bits (collets, spring seats, valve stem seals) But the Valve guides, tappets and so on are different I think.

Still not working for some reason... I can upload it on my server if you can e-mail/PM it to me?
Gaz
what, the pics aren't even working? are you using Tinternet explorer or firefox? You might have your browser settings set to prevent popups and unknown content from showing up
tobyk
Well, I'm using Firefox, just checked with IE and still getting the same problem:

no wise to post on a public forum showing a print screen of your task bar, wink.gif
tobyk
See, that's something I don't get - a lot of people crop their print screens so the taskbars aren't visible... Why? lol.gif
kerrgreg
This still doesnt work Gaz I've tried everything you said in prevoid posts n it still dont work sad.gif
dreleask
can you not take a print screen of the data sheet, save it into a picture and upload it into an attatchment on club polo then insert the picture into a post?

should really work, its how i upload all of my pics biggrin.gif

Why?

Unless you tasks bar shows your external IP address, your firewall settings and all listening services?

The only thing incriminating on that screen shot is azerus.. a P2P application.. But P2P is not illegal!! Its only illegal if you use it for copyright infringment...
