Is it showing an engine light on the dashboard? Have you scanned it for fault codes? Unplug the air flow meter and see what it does. Take the spark plugs out and see how they compare to this https://ngksparkplugs.com/en/resources/read-spark-plug

Hi guys, Sorry post here but i´m having exacly the same problem as the video "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGBybv-va-k". One thing i notice is also the car is working on 3 cylinders on low revs but if i rev it to 4k it back to 4, once the revs came down its on 3 again. If i insist until the car is normal working temp (90º) it works fine on 4 cylinders doesn´t stall. I already did since its was time to do it: new timing + water pump + tensioner new thermostat new oil + filter change coolant flush spark plug coil air filter cabin filter petrol filter After all this it still does it, what can it be? please help, thanks

Might be different on a RHD car. I could not slide it out sideways because the wiper motor is in the way for me. Hose clamps or a joining pipe. Slide 2 clips, heater resistor connection, I can't remember whether I released the cable attached to the inlet valve.

I had exactly the same problem which was fixed by replacing the drivers door electric window motor. I know this sounds strange but it worked & has been trouble free for a few years now. I contacted Steve1@clubpolo & he supplied me with a replacement motor. He is knowledgeable about this & fixes some problem with that motors circuit which affects the whole system. To swap the motor was a very quick job & I can't thank him enough because I was paying for endless circuit test & analysis at a local garage.

Looks like i'm doing this job this year, do you have to remove the whole fan/matrix unit completely or will the matrix slide out sideways? Do you have to split the fan box in half?

OK, search behind the speedometer dials unit in the dashboard. As i said thats OEM+ Tuning, you can do so many things with pats from other VAG Cars. I did this back in 2012, its the same, moms 1997 6N1 hat the old AH keys, but the HAA locks from newer polos fits perfetly 1:1. cheers Christian

Cheers Christian. No, FRV lives on, it's just been used off road for a few years. FRV is a base spec 2002 Seat Inca though, no central locking or electric anything. Love that little van, so maybe it will go back into regular use one day. The estate is actually a Cordoba Vario, but it's almost entirely a Polo Estate apart from some plastics. The rotten VW Caddy one of the last of that shape, so they threw everything at it (electric windows, electric mirrors, remote central locking, cassette player... doesn't sound much, but that's as much "everything" as mk2 caddy's had). Both the caddy and the estate have the air powered locks, so I'm trying to figure out where the receiver would be on the Caddy, whether it's stand alone or built into the air pump., and if the pumps are the same/interchangeable. The lock barrels are interchangeable, so I might use all the ones off the caddy, or repin them to the Cordoba's ignition key, plenty of options there. I will pull the caddy's key apart next time I'm at the workshop.

Is that rotten 2004 Mk2 Caddy the white GJ...RV which u had at the ps 2017? If so, they do have the same base, i mean both 6k/6kv are the same, which means same locks in the doorhandles and same ignitionlock in the steeringcolumnhousing, just different lock for the boot/reardoor and the gloveboxes in case they do have locks too. So you could just swap the locks and take the immo transponders out of the 6k keys and place them in the seat keys. The key you have shown, you have to split it, i mean there is 1st the mechanical part, the keys with the locks, would be the easy way to swap them 1:1 into the 6K Estate, and 2nd the remote part which we have to find out how it works. When you pull out the remote part from the keypart, can you read somewhere "siemens" or "hella"? and maybe a 433,92 MHz or a 434,42MHz, to find out the generation. Does the caddy also has that pneumatic system or a motor system?, do you know that? Anyway, there must be a stand-alone-receiver, also siemens or hella which is connected with the cars wireloom, i would need the partnumber to say more. Could you explore that and make some pictures? Man, thats already OEM+ tuning in case you didn't know. cheers Christian

It's a little bit difficult to say, because the estate has a different key for every lock, but I think it's supposed to have HAA keys. The caddy is a fixed key with push buttons, it's not this key (it's in the van at the workshop), but it's like it, so probably HAA again.

I've got a 1998 6K Polo Estate with central locking, and a (rotten) 2004 Mk2 Caddy with remote central locking. If I wanted to change the Estate to remote locking, what bits do I need off the Caddy? Am I right in thinking the receiver's on the central locking pump?

Yeah, some of them will want to quote themselves out of the job because it's an old car, but there'll be one or two who look at it and see how simple it is, have a ring round, or better still, nip in. You aren't wrong about the distance between a gearbox whine and it being a non runner, its just if I were to sell it I couldn't really sell it as a runner because of the known impending major issue with the gear box. I am not that different from yourself, it doesn't have a radio (I use a bluetooth speaker sometimes), but has a loud exhaust, which may have contributed to me not dealing with the issue earlier haha. It is at a point now it can be heard over the exhaust so is no longer a quite noise... I did have a quick look at some gearbox repair places, didn't make any inquiries but from the comments the budgets are thousands and not close to the hundreds, which comes close to the home engine swap budget I don't have. I love the idea of getting a Kei car power train to swap into it, they are around 600cc, lighter, more efficient and close to double the power of the 1.0 in mine. It feels like a simpler version of doing a motor bike engine swap but it would take a while to save up for it.

Where can I download Bluetooth adapter, wheel ramps and an O2 sensor socket? I'd be asking why the O2 sensor died so young on a VW. I assume far below 100,000 miles for typical 6 year old Polo.

There's a long way between a gearbox whine and a car being a none-runner. There's people in this world (I'm one), who'd just turn the radio up and keep enjoying it. Failing that, before you decide on a drastic course of action, give a gearbox specialist a call. These gearboxes are pretty simple, especially if it's a 4 speed, so it probably won't be as much as you think to have it looked at. Probably even cheaper if you take the gearbox out and put it back yourself.

I wouldn't bother with any of the subscription-based scanners (that being most of the ones that work through your phone) they all just get more and more expensive as time goes by, and keep the more advanced features behind a paywall. If you just want basic engine fault codes read - there's plenty of cheap handheld scanners out there for <£100 that will do the job without being a constant leach on your wallet. If you want something a bit better, most of the Chinese tablet-based scanners are a copy of a Launch. I use a TopDon, it's genuinely a decent bit of kit, although some of the Engrish can take a bit of working out (eg, it calls brake pads "brake blocks", like on a pedal bike).
