    • The Polo Social - Your first time? What is it? What to Expect? How to Book!
The Polo Social, what is it?

The Polo Social is a social event held on 28 June ~ 01 July 2019 that is put on by Club Polo which is open to all VW Polo owners from any Club.
So, if you are part of a local club bring everyone down and grab a spot in the field.

      What to Expect?
A relaxed event where you can catch up with other members, see their cars and meet new people from the club. Expect a big club meet which lasts the weekend with some beers and BBQs!
      What’s going on?
Details are yet to be finalised but plans are for the club BBQ to return on the Saturday night, Show and Shine on the Sunday. We are looking to have some things going Saturday daytime.
      Where is it?
The event is held at Billing Aquadrome, Northampton Billing, NN3 9DA. http://www.billingaquadrome.com/ Tel: 01524 781 453 We have held the event here for a number of years before our recent departure to Kelham Hall, and it’s an excellent venue which really suits the club’s event. There is food available on site and there are also a couple of pubs and a Fish & Chips shop in walking distance. There is also the Mini-Golf, Karting and a leisure centre with a pool.
      What do you need?
If you are camping then you need the general camping gear of tent, sleeping bag, etc. If you want to clean your car up for the show and shine on the Sunday there is a cold-water supply so, bring your bucket and cleaning gear. Also bring some money but there is a cash machine by the entrance to the site.
How much does it cost and how to book?
If you are camping the rate is £21/night. A pitch is for a tent for up to 4 people, if you have extra cars they may charge you extra. If you are a paid up member there is a discounted rate see this https://www.clubpolo.co.uk/topic/357805-polo-social-2019/ To book head to http://www.billingaquadrome.com/ and click book now. Then please select Shelduck 2 as this is our field. If you are camping for just the Saturday night then its £21 per pitch. You can book this online as per above but you might not be able to select Shelduck 2. Please select another field but just pitch up in the Shelduck 2 field with the rest of us when you arrive as there will be loads of room. The day rate is £10 per car.

    • Booking Problems
When booking to camp, you will probably be told you can't book Shelduck 2, (the field we are having the show in) this is due to the computer system at Billing has booked the whole field as the show field, this stops any random campers from booking into the field, you will be told you have to book for Shelduck 1 or 3 Do not worry, just accept shelduck 1 and when you arrive just camp in shelduck 2

Evening all, just letting everyone know I have put my 9n sport up for sale due to not being able to drive it for 6 months,. Reluctant sale because I loved it but it would just be sitting around collecting rust. If anyone is looking for a cheap run about which is fun to drive then I would highly recommend this.

In other news I was scrolling through autotrader the other week and saw the perfect 9n Sport with a 1.9tdi engine with only 46k miles so I put a deposit on it. I have put my montreal 2s on and it looks amazing. In a rare grey anthracite colour too. So thats my next project so I will post a few pictures once the car arrives home.

      Hi Nigel  HELP PLEASE

You recently helped me ot with a problem. I have another serious one. Can you help please.  I replaced the  timing belt.  Car started no problem but was firing on three.
Couldn t pinpoint the reason so took the head off and reground all the valves.  Refitted everything  but NOW,,, she won't start. By that I mean that she won t turn over , only very very slowly. I charged her battery overnight ( only  6 months old) ,,and I added two fully charged batteries then also tagged up a running car so in all three batteries,, made no difference,, so I tried everything I know. I fitted an extra earth,,, detached all  the alternator wiring .. The engine turns by hand,,, so it s not seized or anything. So I took the belt off and took the cam and followers`off and tried the starter,, the engine flies round. I replaced the cam ( only two  followers) and the belt ,,,and there the engine turns only just with all those batteries connected.  SO I took out the two followers and replaced the cam and belt  and STILL there the engine turns like a snail. Just to add I checked the timing a hundred times .....

SO Nigel,, any ideas as to what the hell the problem is PLEASE  I am totally stumped...

Check if you have a mechanic that will finish the job with parts you supply, in case you get stuck.   I've not done (I have solid followers) but I understand the hydraulic followers can be cleaned. I wonder if flushing has moved some crud where it does not belong so one or more is not pumping up hard.

Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply so quickly  you have  given me the confidence to address my rattling cam followers, I had visions of one job leading to another and it all getting out of hand! when I purchased this car the previous servicing was very sketchy and I think it had regular oil changes with a 10/40 grade oil, I instantly had the cam belt changed along with all bearings, tensioner, pump and belt etc, the oil has been flushed and changed twice in less than 8000 miles so cam followers perhaps in September Can I just ask -- in your opinion should I leave this to a professional mechanic or try myself having only average experience? I have also had the brakes fully serviced, replacement pads, shoes, discs, fluid and pipes etc, shock absorbers and springs , a couple of ball joints , tyres all round and that's just the mechanical bits, I do tend to over service!   Thanks again for your opinions

Basiacally 700 is to do the job, they have to fo 95% of the job anyway to check so putting a new one on is the easy part   Theyll probably still hit you for vat on that too

Yeah that doesn't sound right, that should be covered under warranty I'd have thought!   A mate had clutch/flywheel issue with a citroen at around 40k and it was covered as car was only just over 2yr old. They did sting him though as they said the clutch was at fault not the flywheel but they  didn't recommend changing one without the other so he'd to pay for the flywheel £400ish 😮

Clutch is a wear item, but such early failure is unusual.  I'd expect 50,000 to 100,000 miles.   Bought new? I'd get in touch with your nearest Citizens Advice Bureau and check your rights before 12months are up.   https://www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/en/articles/your-rights-if-something-is-wrong-with-your-car has a summary.
