  1. Hello im new here :) I want to fit a cone filter with pipes to my 1.2 12V but unsure on how to do this. If the air filter was separate I would find this easier to do but where is the MAF? what are the 2 hoses connected to the engine cover? Do I need them? Any help will be appreciated thanks!
  2. Hi, apologies if this is the wrong section of the forum (im new to posting here, long time lurker) i have a polo 9n 1.2 3 cylinder, i have heard that it is possible to swap the throttle bodies from that of a mk4 golf, is there a specific engine size from the golf that i need to get it from or will they all fit, i dont know if the golfs use a universal size or they change with engine size which i assume, any help will be appreciated. also i have had trouble of finding exhaust systems that will fit the car, i have a quote of 150 to get a custom backbox made by hand, however is there any full catback systems that you guys use on your polo's many thanks,
  3. hi all I've just acquired a 91 polo with only 3k miles. its mint but the oil light and coolant warning lights stay on after its started. no knocks or other funny noises I think that its probably sensors from lack of use - any thoughts? cheers
  4. Hi guys i know iv been quiet on here for a very long time sins i sold my last polo which i dropped the GT engine in but now im back with a question for the guru's here as i have found a lot of conflicting information scattered about the internet regarding this. First of all let me start out by saying im looking at doing about 3 different engine conversions at the moment and dont want to waste my time / effort on the polo if its not going to work anyway as i have a e36 BMW to take a 318i 8v engine out of and put a 318is 16v stroked engine in for definite. Along with that i may be helping a mate of mine convert his k10 micra 1.2 to a 1.6 from a almera. Which leaves me with 2 possible engine swaps which only 1 of can be done. Iv got a 1.6 AEE MPI engine which has some kind of performance cam sat on my garage floor at the moment which came from a 1996 mk3 golf which i stripped kept the engine as i know the AEE is known as a fairly tune able engine with someone pushing one to 240BHP anyway once i had a better look at it i realized it looked a lot like the AAV / 3F engines i had pulled out / put in my old polo. Then as luck would have it again a MK2F came up for sale locally and i managed to swap a BMW e36 vader full interior for it which worked out in the sellers favor anyway as he wanted £450 for the mk2f and he sold the vader interior for £750 which in my opinion is cheap still as iv seen vader interior sell for £1500+ But anyway i then started searching to see if this AEE would fit the mk2f i just acquired turns i google can't seem to find me a definite answer the closest iv got to an answer is this thread on club polo: https://www.clubpolo.co.uk/topic/13935-converting-a-gt-to-a-14-and-16/?page=7&tab=comments#comment-1168668 Which works out well for me as i still have the mk3 golf this engine came from and i have a complete mk2f with a 1.0 AAU in which has just had a new clutch by my understanding if i fit the following parts to the AEE from the AAU it should fit: flywheel clutch starter (or possibly a slimline starter off a 1994) gearbox (wouldn't use the 4 speed off the 1.0 would use my old AAV 5spd box which only has 65k miles on it which would mean i need a 5spd gearbox mount for a mk2f) alternator pulley crank pulley bit of shaving of metal and plastic and jobs a gooden Obviously the rest of that guide i can disregard as im not converting it to a GT im just getting the AEE to fit and i have a complete engine not just a bare engine so i have the inlet manifold and everything with the engine. however im pretty sure there is going to wiring issues getting the AEE's loom to mate up with the mk2f loom and also the AAU is SPI so would need a better fuel pump for the AEE same as when i went from AAV to 3F on my old polo If for some reason someone knows why this won't work please let me know and i will just dump this AEE in another mk3 golf that has a 1.8 ADZ engine but its slow and sluggish compared to this AEE Also on another note the golf with the AEE in came with a clutch kit as the clutch had almost gone (bite right at the top of the pedal and a little slip) now luckily my mk2f had just had a new clutch before i got it but i have looked it up online and the AEE clutch is 24 tooth 200mm and the mk2f uses a 24 tooth 190mm clutch i know its a long shot but who reckons the AEE clutch disc 200mm will fit inside the mk2f 190mm pressure plate? and work as i read from somewhere the mk2f clutches don't handle the AEE power very well and burn out fast so kinda hoping if for some chance the AEE clutch disc fits the mk2f pressure plate that the extra 10mm diameter will help it cope with the power better. Thanks everyone
  5. Hi I own a 95 Polo and recently noticed something strange with my oil cap, it has some creamy looking substance on the side that sits inside the engine and I have had mixed opinions of what it is for example I first got told I needed a new head gasket because water was leaking I then asked someone else and they said where my car was sat for a year it was just condensation in the engine and I just needed to leave my car running for a while I then tried that and it is still like it, do I need to run it for longer or do I need a new head gasket some help would be appreciated,

  7. Hi everyone, i need to know wether the 1.1 golf engine is the same as the 1.1 polo engine? Thanks
  8. Morning all! I was convinced my 16v was the 75bhp model, ( i thought all 6n2's were) however I have been reading that some 6n2's did in fact come with the 100bhp engine. Visually what are the differences? Also is it stamped on the engine at all? If so where?
  9. Can any one point me in the right direction of the temp sensor that controls the guage on a 1.4 16v 6n2 please
  10. MK3 Polo coupe breaking. Has a 16v AFH in it which runs and had fresh timing, waterpump, plugs, etc. Lowered on 70mm springs and shocks with some white ford multispoke wheels which with the adapters are pretty wide. Has the ARB bush kit (The same ones as the G-Lader ones) which have never seen the tarmac. Need gone ASAP, will post pictures later. Any parts needed please shout me!
  11. Hi all, ive got a 1990 H reg breadvan, its been sitting for a while, started it yesterday to let it charge the battery, just idling for a few minutes, and it started making a loud tappet noise which got louder with the oil fill cap removed , pulled off the cam cover, found some scoring and maybe a flat spot on one of the lobes, some metal shavings were in the oil around the cam and on the dipstick. i put oil directly on the lobes, cover back on and started it, was perfectly normal for about 10 seconds then it rattled again the oil light doesnt come on or anything like that so im thinking it has oil pressure? it never made any noise like that before, had the local garage do a full service on it a month ago, its done about 50 miles since then, no problems then either it did have a new cambelt, 10w40 synthetic oil and a filter but its still quite sooty and dirty looking the car also runs rough at low engine speeds with no vacuum leaks or timing issues or anything as far as me or the garage can tell how do i stop it? ive got some 20w50 in the shed, will that work temporarily or am i looking at a new cam and tappets or a new engine? Cheers Harry
  12. Hello everyone, I'm wondering if some one could give me some info on this engine? the 1.1 engine, first off what cars did this come in? 2: whats the piston size? 3: whats the piston stroke? 4:what materials is it made from? (block and head) 5: engine code? 6: will the polo gt head bolt straight on? 7: do the g40 rods fit with the standard crank off the 1043cc? 8: what bits make the engine a 1100 rather than the 1.0 (1043)? Thanks in advance!
  13. Hi, The two Polos in question are: 1. 6N2 2000 1.4 75hp AHW engine, cable throttle - okay working, probably a bit under-powered, will check cylinder compression - normal AC - 2 doors 2. 6N2 2000 1.4 75hp AUA engine, wired throttle - engine is bust - overheated because of oil pump failure. - climatronic - 4 doors I'm still considering other options, but the best at the moment seems to be to combine the two into 1 fully working Polo, with the 4 doors Polo as the base. The main question is: "Is the engine swap plug and play?" - this concerns only the engine unit, with everything immediately attached - water pump, pulleys, alternator. This is to put the AHW engine instead of the AUA. Should I swap it with the gearbox or there is no need?
  14. Hi, I'm after some pointers on why our 1999 1.4 6N1 Auto engine wont start. It initially stalled when my daughter was reversing off her drive. Neither she, nor the Green Flag callout could jump start it, and in the process, the starter motor was burnt out. I have now replaced the starter, but have not yet managed to get the car running. It spins over OK with the new starter, but does not fell like it wants to run. The ignition side seems OK, as I have checked that each plug is sparking, however I'm not sure how to check if fuel is getting through to the fuel rail. or if the fuel pump is running OK. Any thoughts on how to check these, as it's not really covered within the Haynes manual? Also, anything else I should check? Any help appreciated - Many thanks.

    1.8T in 9N or 9N3

Did anyone ever put a 1.8T engine in a 9N3 or 9N? Also, did anyone ever put a 9N/9N3 on air ride suspension?
  16. Hi guys just a quick one has anyone ever replaced the top engine mount before if so how much of a pig are they?

    Rattle from engine cold start

Hi I have a polo 6R 2013 1.4 (CGGB) I have been hearing a rattling noise for a few months now. The noise seems to happen only when the engine is cold but goes away when the engine warms up. I have changed the oil and flushed the engine before putting new oil in. This hasn't fixed the issue. When I drive the car the rattle is a lot more louder but goes away when warm. I have had the exhaust inspected and it's fine. The noise seems to be coming from the top of the engine. I don't know whether it's the tappets or even the piston. I help advice please Thanks Adil

  19. Hi I have a 99 1.9D 6n and I've no ignition lights when I switch on the car like battery lights and heater light etc, the car will crank over but won't start it's like I've no communication with the ecu or something like that has anyone any ideas??? Thanks
  20. Hey guys! Winter is coming and I don't really plan to need my Polo that much Thus I'm thinking to invest some time in tinkering with it. I will soon start a build thread for it, as I initially got it just for a backup car, but now I want to "play" with it . Before that thou, I wanted to ask some questions, about things that I'm not fully clear on I do have some power issues with the car. The clutch cable and the clutch itself were garbage when I got the car, and I fixed them, but the shop didn't do a good job with the clutch cable and I'll need to replace it again - the clutch pedal is very heavy, noisy, sticks often and doesn't release smoothly. Still when I compare the car to my brother's Polo (same engine but AUA), there is very noticeable difference in how the car accelerates and how much easier and quicker it revs - it did also have clutch and cable changed at about the same time. It is good to mention that the AUA Polo hasn't seen proper maintenance in about 3-4 years, while in the past 2 years it was running with a faulty head - losing a lot of oil and coolant regularly. Still after a simple head gasket change, clutch and cable it runs times better than the AHW Polo that seemingly doesn't have anything wrong with it... Both Polos have their Cats removed, where for the AHW I have a whole new exhaust, except the manifold. So, either way I do plan to service the engine of the AHW Polo. And I do have the bold idea of trying to do it myself, mostly as a challenge What I want to do: 1. Service the head: - new set of inlet and exhaust valves - new valve seals - polish on the head and the valve beds - outsource - new gasket 2. Block - probably just cleaning the cylinders and changing the rings 3. Timing belt - belt, pulleys, water pump, etc. Most of the things above are fairly well documented, and I shouldn't find it very hard to do, but I do plan on upgrading the engine in the future at two-three stages, and wanted to know if I should plan ahead, if I'm opening the head Stage 1 - GTI upgrade I already have inlet and exhaust manifolds + throttle body from a GTI. I do plan of adding them after servicing the engine. And as far as I know I will need to remap the ECU for the new throttle body Question 1: Should I even bother with trying to remap the ECU myself, when the change is only the throttle body. An ECU tool is fairly cheap and I think it should be a nice entry level job At a later stage I might go for the supercharging fun, but wanted to ask about the engine mods that I see being done around it - fast road camshafts, decompression plates, bigger valves, etc. Question 2: Should these things be done to the engine only when adding the supercharger, or they can be done earlier? - are these the cams I should be looking for? - can somebody quote me which bigger valves are being used in such a set up - would a CLK W208 supercharger do the trick? Question 3: If I decide not to go for airflow mods, should I just add better cam shafts to the GTI mod and call it a day? Do the new cam shaft (either from a 101hp 1.4 16v or a fast road one) require a remap? Note: I was thinking about an engine swap, but I decided to play with this engine. I do have a bigger engine car and I am not really looking to make this Polo be something crazy.
  21. Not sure what engine oil to buy have been told semi synthetic but I don’t know what te numbers mean as I’m new to cars. Any help would be great. Cheers :) i have a 1989 mk2 polo s 1.3L Petrol.

    AAV/AEE

Just curious if anyone knows or tried them to put a AAV head on a AEE bottom end and it would work with the AAV loom. Pretty much my block isn't in the best condition after my head gasket failed so looking at another option.
  24. Hi! I am looking for what this part is named? It is connected to the engine/gearbox and gear changeing cables go through it. Pictures: .
  25. Looking for engine code on mk2f, is it under the dizzy?
