  1. A couple of MOT's back I got a corrosion advisory for O/S beam mount near the fuel filler area. I Aquasteeled it up and it wasn't detected at the last MOT at a different garage (good sign, right?). The whole arch is rotten now; the skins are separating and the GT arch trim fell off somewhere never to be seen again. How bad does the beam mount have to get to fail an MOT and is it an expensive welding repair?
  2. Hi CP, Have just done a test fit with the above wheels and the fronts appear to be too wide, atleast in legal terms. The edge of the rim protudes about 3/4 inch out and I don’t want to chance bring pulled over, etc. Would fitting a tire tire and covering the tread be deemed ok? Was looking at 185/60 however I feel this will offer too much of a square shoulder and result in obvious poke. Are 175/50’s too narrow for modern tire regs?

    MK2F ABU swap

Hello, So I'm swapping an ABU engine (1.6 from mk3 golf) in my polo and I came to the point where my starter from a 1.05 doesn't fit as the back of the block is flat on it, compared to the 1.6 which has rib-like bumps, for the crank I assume. I'm using the stock 1.05 clutch and gearbox for the time being and I need some certain points to which starter I should look for? Also any point outs for the throttle cable? As it seems to supposed to be swinging around from the front, instead from the back (the solid brackets are in different places) This m
  4. I had a rattle when driving at speed in my MK2F Bready that I traced to behind the diver-side passanger trim card. Took it off and found a right mess! The pipe that I presume the fuel line runs through (whatever it is its a thick rubber pipe) has totally rotted away with the flange that i presume used to be attached to the rear wheel arch section now rattling around (thus the noise!). The line rus through the arch so it seems water had been entering it's steel pipe surround and eaten through iut with time, then started on the pipe flange and eventually made a nice hole directly fro
  5. hello, I think the Haynes wiring diagram for a mk2f polo (1990-1994) has an error on the single point fuel injection schematic: the petrol pump relay (NUMBER 23, low on the left) is wired in a very awkward way: it appears that the fuel injector (NUMBER 28) is wired in series with the relay coil (relay pins 85 and 86) and the fuel pumps (NUMBER 30 and 31) via fuse F1 which is nonsense. also the +12V arriving at the relay contact 30 (battery positive) is switched to contact 87 which then goes to battery positive via the key switch??? i had a friend search in ElsaW
  6. Hi has anyone got a link for correct front wheel bearing on mk2f gt breadvan? Only asking as I have noticed different makes do vary in size. Many thanks . Have a Merry Christmas.

    My mk2f polo conversion

So, recently purchased a 1991 mk2f polo with a 6n2 engine and gearbox conversion. Stripped the whole shell out today, no seats inside but a lot of wiring hanging around. Looking for ideas to use for the rear as I’m leaving the back seats out so wanting to board it and carpet the rear but need some great ideas to go with! Thanks guys

*My mk2f/mk3 work in progress* 😀

So just a bit of a progress report on my Grandads old Polo (which he had from new but I tracked down after it was sold 8 years ago) As you can see she is looking a bit like her old self now, so far I have repaired the battery tray, replaced battery, brake pads, wipers, passenger wing, steering column/ignition,, aerial, lock set, fit a period Sony face off radio and thoroughly cleaned the interior too. Next on the to do list is to sort out the bits of scabby bodywork and replace the fuel tank and tyres 👍🏻 As she has been off the road a few years I’m hoping that I can’t get her MOTd early next
  13. hello, I need to change all rubber fuel hoses by removing the badly rusted compression fitting that connects the plastic (nylon) lines to the rubber hoses and using an oetiker-type clamp to connect the fuel line to the rubber hose (see red circle in photo as example of compression fitting used to connect plastic line to fuel hose), however i wonder how to avoid kinking or crushing the plastic line when fitting the clamp: does someone know if there is a brass insert INSIDE the plastic line like the one in the second photo that I can reuse? does anyone have suggestio

    Dora v2

Dora is back, and Vio's styling choices have not improved. Quick summary of the past couple years: - My purple and gold Nissan was hit while parked up overnight, the damage was similar to Dora's but I'd had enough fun with that one and decided to scrap it and upgrade. - Bought a Mercedes c200, learned it had a blown head gasket, spent £1k fixing it, lasted a year or so but then the engine died again (no compression in 3rd cylinder) so I sold that on as spares. - Bought a mk4 Golf with a blown head gasket (what is it with me and buying cars with blown head gaskets), e

    Mk2f in Bristol

Hi all, ive got a 93 mk2f coupe, originally a straight 1.3 now has a 1.3gt engine and box with twin gsx600 carbs. Been stood for a few years so kind of a project now. I have a instagram account logging my progress, coupeproject. Only ever owned vw's since passing my test, have an Amarok now as well. Danny
  16. So I've had my mk2f (Dora) back on the road for about a week now. Passed her MoT last week, insured it (still £100 a month thanks to my 3 non-fault crashes, ok then), and got my job back delivering pizzas. Coming back to the store after a delivery last night, and I notice a police van behind me. No blues on so I don't think much of it, but then he follows me into the store car park. He asks about the car (if it's mine etc.), and then says it's not taxed. Ah bugger. I forgot to take the SORN off. So then my manager pops out and starts having a go at the coppers, who say
  17. Hi to all fellow VW enthusiasts! So I just recently purchased my 2F “Match” edition which was the last of the run out models so came with the sport radar alloys and Sony flip stereo as standard (so a slightly special model 🤣) What IS so special about this particular car though is that it used to belong to my grandad from brand new and I remember the day that he got it back in 94. Growing up I spent many an hour in the back of his Polo on trips out with my brother. Long story short but the car was sold 8 years ago (my grandad sadly passed away) and that was that...... Fast forwar

  19. Has anyone got a good thread for installing a head unit on a mk2f as I can't seem to get my pioneer one to get any power iv bridged a wire from the ignition live (black and yellow wire) to the unit power and nothing happened.
  20. After the breather pipe that goes out the crankcase into the oil separator what is the pipe that is supposed to come out of the oil separator, and where is it supposed to go?
  21. VW 1994 Polo MK2F AAU For the first time, I attempted to change the oil. Everything was going so well, but now the sump plug won't grip the pan! Backstory: A month ago, I wanted to do an oil change however the sump plug wouldn't budge, probably because I couldn't get enough space under the car. I decided to ask the garage to loosen it when I got the MOT done. They loosened it for me and it was great - driven it a few times nothing leaked everything was fine, oil level still the same. TODAY: All prepped up I finally drained the oil. However, when it came to fitting the n
  22. Hello, For starters - it's a LHD 1.05 mk2f with 5 speed gearbox and 18mm arb. So yesterday I fitted poly bushings on my MK2F anti rollbar (was a major pita, as I was doing it on a solid gravel surface and in a hurry) and noticed that the roll bar is rubbing all the way up against the gearbox's end pan and the downpipe. The oem bushings were really worn, as the washers would be constantly clunking against the tracking arm. The car is lowered (which is supposed to be) 80mm at the front, but there's still long ways till my arches and has never rubbed even going
  23. Hi guys sorry if this is in the wrong place! But I'm in desperate need of some lowering top caps for my mk2f I've already lowered it with 80mm springs and new lowering shocks but I need it a bit lower on the front. If anybody has any for sale, that would be awesome! Cheers
  24. Vio

    Hello again.

It took me 3 years, but I did it. Hello again 😊
  25. Just replaced the cambelt - first thing I noticed was maybe 1cm of belt flapping at idle along the long length between cam & crank - is this a problem? Car runs fine, belt isn't whirring. Tightened to 90 degree twist on short length, just over 90 flapping length. I used the same brand of belt last change and found any tighter would cause belt to whirr loudly.
