    Head unit install

Has anyone got a good thread for installing a head unit on a mk2f as I can't seem to get my pioneer one to get any power iv bridged a wire from the ignition live (black and yellow wire) to the unit power and nothing happened.
  2. After the breather pipe that goes out the crankcase into the oil separator what is the pipe that is supposed to come out of the oil separator, and where is it supposed to go?
  3. VW 1994 Polo MK2F AAU For the first time, I attempted to change the oil. Everything was going so well, but now the sump plug won't grip the pan! Backstory: A month ago, I wanted to do an oil change however the sump plug wouldn't budge, probably because I couldn't get enough space under the car. I decided to ask the garage to loosen it when I got the MOT done. They loosened it for me and it was great - driven it a few times nothing leaked everything was fine, oil level still the same. TODAY: All prepped up I finally drained the oil. However, when it came to fitting the new sump plug, it wouldn't grip. At first, I thought I must have bought the a size too small. I tried putting the old one back in, and it wouldn't grip either! It's like its too small, rattling side-to-side in the hole. I'm pretty annoyed to the say the least, as I've only renewed the tax/mot/insurance last week The sump plug threads looks in good condition. Is it possible I could have stripped the thread in the sump pan? Surely this wouldn't leave a gap big enough to rattle the plug inside the hole? Maybe I'm not doing something properly? (This is my first oil change) Is there a fix I can apply without replacing the sump pan? If I have to replace the sump pan, is it a massive job? Some of the screws securing the pan look pretty rusted. Any help would be gratefully appreciated! Thanks
  4. Hello, For starters - it's a LHD 1.05 mk2f with 5 speed gearbox and 18mm arb. So yesterday I fitted poly bushings on my MK2F anti rollbar (was a major pita, as I was doing it on a solid gravel surface and in a hurry) and noticed that the roll bar is rubbing all the way up against the gearbox's end pan and the downpipe. The oem bushings were really worn, as the washers would be constantly clunking against the tracking arm. The car is lowered (which is supposed to be) 80mm at the front, but there's still long ways till my arches and has never rubbed even going over a speed bump at a decent speed, so not really sure about the exact lowered value. I have been waiting on the better time for the arb blocks, but it is yet to come. Can you install the roll bar the 'wrong way' as it didnt come to mind to check and as I didnt have the problem before? I also had removed the roll bar before and installing it was not anywhere near as big of a problem the other time. Cheers on the first post!

    Mk2f lowering top caps

Hi guys sorry if this is in the wrong place! But I'm in desperate need of some lowering top caps for my mk2f I've already lowered it with 80mm springs and new lowering shocks but I need it a bit lower on the front. If anybody has any for sale, that would be awesome! Cheers

    Hello again.

It took me 3 years, but I did it. Hello again 😊
  7. Just replaced the cambelt - first thing I noticed was maybe 1cm of belt flapping at idle along the long length between cam & crank - is this a problem? Car runs fine, belt isn't whirring. Tightened to 90 degree twist on short length, just over 90 flapping length. I used the same brand of belt last change and found any tighter would cause belt to whirr loudly.

    Hi all from Cornwall

Hello all just joined a few days ago really looking for a roof rack for my 1992 polo mk2f, something like the photo if any has any ideas that would be great:) just advice on where to go etc. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place aha
  9. So i have just swapped over the servo on my 91 GT, the servo was being dodgy and removing the old one revealed some major rust had taken hold on it. Anyway i've fitted a replacement servo, taken off a 2f, i haven't adjusted anything on this new servo. My car is running a rear disc setup, with VW2 fronts and a 22mm master cylinder, this has all been fitted for a couple of years and been working perfectly. With the new servo fitted, the brake pedal sits lower than the clutch pedal (they used to sit level), and the point at which the pedal goes solid is also lower. These i can live with, but the pedals new position is too low to switch off the brake lights, so they stay permanently on. I have taken apart the old servo, and the only adjustment i can see is on the master cylinder side, which would change the bite point, but not where the pedal sits at rest. Being honest i'm stumped, its like its not seated correctly on the bulkhead, but the three mounting bolts are tight, look even and none of it looks crooked. I have released the master from the servo to check its not that, and the pedal indeed is still incorrect with no master. I can only think i'll have to strip it off again and compare with the old servo/check its seating. But before i do, anyone have any bright ideas? Thanks guys
  10. Hello polo people, I recently rebuilt the head on my mk2f and replaced alot of parts but ever since iv owned the car it would rev up and then down and return to normal but after all the work it seems to be getting worse and now it does it more often, some times almost stalls and the oil light flashes then returns to normal. Only seems to do it when it starts to get hot. The only things I haven't replaced are the lamba sensor, coil pack, HT leads and the gaskets on SPI unit. Any help with this would be great, I want it running spot on for the Polo social.

    AFH loom

So hopefully in the near-ish future I want to convert my coupe 1.3 to afh 1.4 16v and i just want to fuel it with injection but I'm not sure about the wiring iv heard of a complicated way of splicing the looms with both the fuse boxs or something along those lines and iv also heard that you can make a loom using both engine looms with minimal wires just wondering if anyone can shed some light on which is the best way to do it and I really don't want to run it on bike carbs.
  12. Hi are the 1.0L & 1.3 L single point injection units for a mk2f the same. I have a 91 AAU 1.0l . If not would anyone know the different part numbers please so I know which one to look out for , Thank you.
  13. My 92 breadvan has been a right pain the last 3 mnths, i've replaced loads but its still running poorly, so far i've replaced ,inlet manifold gasket, exhaust gasket, plugs, leads ,dizzy water temp sensor, lambda sensor, single point injector carb mounting flange, various pipes, air cleaner. ECU but still has same issue. It will start & tick over, drive lovely but once up to running temp around 80deg it starts to be like a kangaroo, really jerky till you stick foot flat on floor, also then won't tick over very well . Any ideas guys ,thanks. Its a 1.0L Cat model AAU Kev

    GT wannabe

Hi everyone! I became a owner of some fine looking machine. It cost me 500 euros with two sets of wheels with winter and summer tires on them, and two original keys with alarm, GT interior with few parts missing, service book almost like new, custom made exhaust and 1.3 AAU engine inside. Whole car was repainted but I noticed rust in the few places but for that price I must do something myself I have bought third set of wheels, some BBS copy ACT wheel. 7.5J 15, ET 38. It fits perfectly with some yokohama 195/45 tires. I still need to get the car down for a bit and repaint those wheels. Here are some pics of the car.

    Fuel leak mk2f

Hi I've recently bought a mk2f breadvan as a bit of a project. I've noticed it leaking fuel slightly after it's been running just behind the fuel tank. I'm not 100% what it is called where its leaking from but I think it's the external fuel pump? Anyway was hoping somebody could help me out on what it is and where I could get a replacement from. I have tried upload a picture but the file is to big apparently it is the small cylinder attached to the u shaped pipe. Thanks guys.
  17. Hi All Anyone know if the plastic arch trim from a Mk1 Caddy would fit a Polo Mk2F, in the description it says Golf>Caddy, I get the Golf arch is bigger, but the caddy and polo wheels show 13-15" where as the golf is 13-16" (according to wheel-size.com) https://www.vwheritage.com/171898700-wheel-arch-trim-set-gti-vw-spare I dont mind abit of time a heatgun work... I take it Mk2f repair panels are like hens teeth, and not really looking to do the Golf arch conversion or start learing to make an arch from a blank sheet 😕 chars
  18. Name: Adie Age: 32 Location: Hampshire Polo owner: 1992 Mk2 Facelift Coupe Genesis Previous car history: 306>306>Clio. Current Daily >Megane 2 Weekend/Ongoing Project> Land Rover 90 v8 1985 Hobbies/interests: Working on my house or in the garage to historic rallys in my Landy and MS platform to Raspberry Pi projects. Occupation: IT Consulting How did you hear about us?: Google, most valid info for me has been provided from here. The story so far: My next door neighbour’s father died and she was given a 1992 VW Polo Mk2 Genesis Couple 1.3 in Tornado red, 43K, one owner from new and most work by the same garage in wales. It is a pretty tidy car, inside is literally perfect, under the bonnet is top notch and no bad sounds from the engine or gearbox, front wings had rusted out at the bottom, but this was just the outer wing, hardly any rust overall it seemed… So the idea was to basically sell it on for her. So I started to prod around, to see what we had, what needed to be done and get an on-the-road price for her. Not long into this conversation a deal was made, basically, a lifetime of lawn mowing and hedge cutting for her in exchange for the car (she’s a great lass). So into my garage it goes, new wings ordered, discs, pads, traction control arms and ball joints. (Build thread to come, just a quick intro…) Whilst I was waiting for bits to arrive I started to clean-up under the bonnet, all original paint, no rust, awesome. Well, me being me, whilst I do like the Rat look, in my heart I like things like new. The body work needed one or two touch up’s, abit of prep and those little spots are now ready for a touch of paint. The paint was in a good state, Jan, the lady next door gave polishing a go, but may not have been used to the older paint styles and the outcome was bloomed, streaky and white ish. A bit of wet/dry and T-Cut would have it sorted. A day or two passed, in that time I had found ClubPolo.co.uk I am now at the stage of; doors off and prepped for respray, front wings fully prepped, fuel tank out… At the back of the car first, it appears the normal rust issues are here, fuel filler breather pipe to tank (one where the tube goes through a plastic pipe to the top of the tank) had rotted through, front of the rear drivers arch down to the sill had rusted and the metal fuel filler was rotted out at the bottom just before it goes into the fuel tank. Out comes Mr grinder along with Miss cutty and Miss flappy along with old wallis (the welder). So, another Mk2F project has been started, I don’t know where the endpoint will be, total restore, fun little run about or a hill/sprint car. At the moment I will look to get the rust sorted and back on the road. I like the idea of a little 1.3 55bhp run around as a daily, the Megan’s electric steering and overall bloat is boring and all these new ish cars are just over weight/bulky the more you have the more your just carrying around, yes I am a young ‘old man’, I get told it enough. I know that I will look to increase the performance after a while, at the moment I am not sure to go with the 1.4 16v switch or just work on the original 1.3, or something new, it being 2018, there must be some other options, I wouldn’t mind getting into ECU tuning, abit of Mega Squirt maybe, maybe just a standard 1.3 with 2 step launch control and train horns lolz. I will get some pictures together and start up a build thread. Hopefully I will be along to the social later this year.

    Seeking my old Mk2f

Hi guys and girls I'm hoping someone can help me. I sold my Mk2f polo back in late 2016/ early 2017. It was FOX coupe in blue that was originally 1.0 but I converted it to a 1.3 GT engine with some mods, Piper Cam, Bigger intake and a few other mods. I'm sure the guy who bought it off me was from eBay by the name of George. I'd love to have that car back as it was one of the nicest I have driven. If anyone has any information or can point me in the right direction I would be very greatful, Maybe even some pint money! If you could ask around any groups or friends that break polo's etc The REG is L468 SYJ and it is not taxed, MOT'ed or Insured Thanks again

Any advice on where to find some decently priced springs or shocks would be appreciated. Cheers, Ewan.
