  1. i’m sure this has been discussed so many times but what war round do i go 1.3.4.2 if in standing wing side looking at dizzy and i going clockwise or anti-clockwise i keep reading different things so i want someone to advise the correct way round. many thanks as always matt
  2. I've done an engine swap on my lupo to a 1.4 AUD engine. Upon installing the engine test firing and running on my old 1l ECU the engine ran fine but randomly cuts out for no reason. Pulled out my 1.4 ECU and swapped that in, the. During the process of installing the code box for the new ECU I immediately noticed that my plugs were different. I have vag tacho, and vcds, is there a way of removing the code off the 1.4 ECU and pasting the one from my 1l in so the engine runs? Thanks X

    Hi there this is my polo I bought for £200 it has been sat in a barn for roughly 8 years originally a 1 litre but had a 1.4 16v swap on bike carbs I eventually got it running (running rough which I expected) but still very surprised I am now in the process of tearing it all down and going to rebuild it cheers carl
  4. Hi, I wanted to ask how much torque will gearbox hold up reliably? Thinking about more power, but people are telling me the gearbox will fall apart, hence the question. Are there any ways to increase the torque handling capability?

Hi, I’ve brought my daughter her first car and it’s a polo 1.2 54 plate, after driving it I’ve noticed that the clutch pedal is very high, when I say high it’s that high I just touch it and clutch is active, it don’t seem to be slipping, and I’ve tried accelerating heavy in a high gear and tried the hand brake on truck to see if it slips but doesn’t? I believe it’s got the auto tensioning spring on the gearbox cable, so can’t adjust it? Is it the clutch worn is so can someone provide me with some instructions how to change the clutch, I can see the clutch isn’t that expensive for that car, but never done a clutch on a polo, would putting a new clutch make the biting low again? 108k miles thanks all

  7. I've been having trouble with the heater blower so I attemped to replace the resistor today and discovered the issue. The connections to the 4-pin terminal were completely rusted and the single pin terminal had burned through. The latter obviously causing my some worry. In order to remove both I needed to pry them out with a screwdriver so now need to replace them. Re the 4-pin connector (191972754): As you can see in the pic it's horrendous. The plan is to buy another part however the only ones I can find have the wires still attached. I couldn't bring myself to splice this into the existing loom so ideally I'd like to disconnect the wires, clean them up and plug them into the new (second-hand) connector. The other pic (attached) looks as though a little lid flips up allowing this. Please confirm. Re the single pin connector: I cannot see a single reference to this anywhere (even on my new favourite site https://7zap.com/en/). This is the one that melted so also needs replacing if I can locate the part number. 4-pin connector Single pin connector New 4 pin connector with access panel to connections? Which plug into this. 4-pin up the top, single pin on bottom.

    Mk3 Polo from the Emerald Isle

    Hi Folks 🙋‍♂️ A few months ago with the encouragement from a few close friends of mine I took the leap and decided to buy a project car. After looking around for a while, nothing seemed to catch my eye. So the search continued, and one day I stumbled across a little MK3 polo for sale. The car was advertised as needing painted .... LOL So I went to view the car and this was the shape it was currently and actually the way I bought it the car surprisingly needs little welding but has had the interior ripped out as previous owner had planned on turning into a van but hey ho I'm sure you guys on here will help guide me to completion of this project. Mk2f polo 1.0 4 speed 51,000 There has been a lot of changes and planning this last few months which I shall update you all with soon.
  10. Over the weekend I removed the windscreen cowl to get to the cabin filter ( Polo 6N) and broke most of the little square tabs/clips in the process. I’ve been scouring the net trying to find the part but can only find round ones or 16mm ones, not the ~10mm that I require. Does anybody know the part number of these little buggers? There are 4 or 5 and they secure the plastic cowl to the body, over which the rubber seal folds.
  11. I’m trying to remove the carpet on my 6N and have one final struggle. Below the radio and heater, right at the very bottom there is a box attached to the floor by a little bracket. What is this box? Once I know what I’m looking at I can google to find out how to remove it. TIA
  12. Hello, I'm new to the forum so sorry in advance if this question has been asked too many times. My 1984 mk2 breadvan has quite severe engine hesitation under acceleration. There is a 'dead zone' when you push the throttle halfway, then if you start flooring it the engine picks up revs again. I already saw there is a list of things in an engine that can cause this, but before trying everything i thought about narrowing down the options. Do any of you know whether there is a very likely cause for a mk2 breadvan to have such hesitation? BTW: the spark plugs and leads are already checked and OK. Bastian

    Polo Classic

    Hello everybody! I want to install front fog lights on my car and i was wondering if i could control it from my main light switch? Its a polo classic 6kv from late 98 left drive,. i've read somewhere that some polo 6n have wires already running from the main light switch into the engine bay, so im wondering if that goes for 6kv aswell and if so where are they located might i be just as lucky? And if anybody know how to install fogs from the lightswitch, given that i would have to run wires myself if they aren't already. Thanks in advance!

  16. Hi all, I have a Polo 1.2 from 2004. I want to replace a part and I cannot find it anywhere. Inside the engine plastic cover, there is a rubber gasket, that is at the connection with the throttle body. Basically this gasket sits on the top of the throttle body. Could you please help to find this part? I looked everywhere, but I couldn't find it. Thanks

Hi I recently bought a 1998 1.6 8v polo open air as a project car I want to put a 1.6 16v engine from the 6n2 polo and I have a few questions can I keep my 6n dashboard for this conversion? is there a step by step guide for this conversion ?   19. Hi All, My first topic post on the forum - hope you’re all good! I’m about to buy myself a Pioneer SPH-230dab to replace the glamorous RCD200 currently installed. To hook it up properly, I was going to splash out a fine pair of radio removal keys and this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N7W5TEE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_SORTDbE0ZT2CH My understanding is that this replaces the need to mess around with any sort of converters / piggy backing off of any fuses when it comes to getting it wired. Does that sound about right?     Fern - Mk2 Polo Coupe

    So this is going to be my build thread for Fern, This is Liz's old car that she had very generously sold (something thats still not sunk in yet and again massive thanks Liz) on to me with the request to get her back on the road and at the Polo Social 2018. I have no clue what way im going to go with her yet (i know im not going for silly low and back killing), as many know I do have a selection of parts from my old mk2F that's has been taking up residence in a garden for the last few years so a few of those items will be transferred over. Heres the pictures that @Liz has given me, more to come once I go to pick her up at the end of the month.

    VW Polo 6N 1.4 8v Open Air

    Hey guys, So here is my VW Polo 6N 1.4 8v Open Air with 60 hp from November 1996. The car recently have been painted and the engine all rebuilt, the car is pretty much brand new ! Now I'm focusing in the interior, specially the roof. I have leak on the sunroof that is driving me mad ! I've been trying to fix it for the last 4 years...   23. I am looking to contact the owner of what was my first car 1990 Volkswagen Polo Ranger 1.3 5-speed in Tornado Red LY3D (REG: G573VNS VIN: WVWZZZ802LY169919). It is now showing as being untaxed and without MOT so I am concerned for it's future and would like to buy it back before the opportunity to do so evaporates forever. It's last known location was Swaffham (PE37) near Norfolk in January 2018. It changed hands a couple of times around Edinburgh and Glasgow around 2012-2014 before ending up in Norfolk. Here is a RetroRides for sale listing that I found from April 2016, I will drop them a message on there shortly. I later found it for sale on eBay in December 2016, the second photo is taken from the listing. I believe the car was purchased from the eBay seller by an Andrew or their son. Since then it has had G60 steel wheels, an aftermarket steering wheel installed and stickers applied but as I said it is now untaxed and without MOT. In April 2016 it had an MOT performed in Knaresborough, Harrogate. Any information would be much appreciated.   24. Hi there, new to the forum. I own a 1987 mk2 polo fox coupe. The car has been restored inside and out but i am now looking for more power. The car currently runs the 1.0L 4 speed engine. I am wondering what swaps have people carried out and how easy it is. Looking into a vr6 swap at the moment. Any suggestions or can anyone point me in the right direction. Cheers
