I’ve had my g rebuilt and sadly it came back running like a sack of spuds.i recently discovered the car came back with the timing was a tooth and a half out.so I’ve had ago at putting it right myself as I’ve done it numerous times but as soon as I line my marks up and put the belt on and attempt to tighten the water pump the crank pulley mark moves.does anyone have an explanation as to what could be the problem and how I rectify it please.

  4. Hello guys, First of all I am new to this forum and I am glad to be apart of it, little back story, I bought a polo 6n2 1.0 MPI as my first car, I'm wanting to fix it up and make it run for a whole lot longer. I love all VW cars and he sold me it for £350, I thought was an absolute steal, until I actually paid for it and took it to my mechanic friend for a look over. The clutch is pretty much shot, so I am replacing that next week, for £170 total, but as I drove the car in the rain it started to misfire badly and ended up stalling constantly at a roundabout in first, no biggy, I knew the issue right then and there the spark leads haven't been changed in 91,000 miles and where torn and cracked, so I replaced all of the leads, plugs, air filters and oil filter, but there's always been this noise coming from the air filter box housing unit or close to it's rather random and and this video I will show, shows that the noise is the same intervals and timing but it isn't sometimes it can last for 5 seconds all the way up to a minute and only starts to happen once the car has heated up and my mechanic can't understand what the noise is, also when you put your foot down the engine has a raspy sound to it, not a normal sound, I'm hoping this is the clutch but I am doubting that it is. Another thing is the car in low gears is so much harder to handle, when you take your foot off the accel it jerks like hell, in small car parks it makes it a nightmare. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated Here is the video:
  5. So after doing a 180 mile trip last Sunday, I didn't check my oil, I checked it this evening and there was no oil what so ever on the dipstick. Now I topped the oil up about 3 to 4 weeks ago as I saw it was low and carried on driving etc, untill I checked it today. I Do not see any kind of leak, and there is no smoke. I have put more oil back in but only just halfway on the min and max. And I also out cardboard under the car for tonight. As I have work at 6am. Any idea as to where my oil went? Or is it normal for a vw polo to go through that much oil on just 180 mile trip?

  7. Hi all, I can't find out how to install this febi gear selector lever repair kit. It has the ball joint, cup, top plate and bolts from the bottom of the gear lever. I can't get the old one off, because the plastic section that sits above it is in the way and cant go anywhere. Any help possible? Cheers!
  8. Hi, I've got the amber steering warning light and intermittent power steering so I opted to change the pump but could only get an a2 pump. Having fitted this pump the power steering appears to be working OK but the warning light is still lit. Could it be that the ECU detects that the pump was originally on an Audi and flag it as an error / fault? Thanks in advance for any help.

    Olá from Portugal

Hey everyone, My name is Marcos and I'm from Madeira Island, Portugal. I currently own two cars, one of them is a VW Polo 6N 1.4 8v Open Air which was my first car, and the other is a VW Golf VII 2.0 TDI Highline which is right now my daily driver. I knew this forum for quite some time, back when I got some nasty problems with my Polo and tried to search for a solution on the internet and I discovered clubpolo.co.uk by accident. Now with all the mechanical problems fixed, I decided to retribute the help that I got and decided to take part in this active community and sharing my knowledge. Cheers !

Back in a Polo Gti 6n2

Hi guys so am back in a Polo Gti after 6years. My last Polo was built for a Fast road/ Track Car and was unreal. It had Comp Mo5’s, Bmc with custom intake, fully Poly Bushed, front upper and lower strut brace, rear upper strut brace, striped out interior and a PhilJ Suspension My New Gti is fully standard and has Full-service history, but it was going to get broke and scraped so I bought the car knowing it had a broken Gearbox. So things am doing to it: Fix the Box G60 Brakes Full respray over the winter (freshen up the paint and get rid of the lacquer peal. Then I need to decide to build another fast road car or keep it original? Also does PhilJ still do suspensions?

Hello, I'm wondering are there download-able versions of Polo 2000 Service and User manuals? Recently I have got one, and I'd like to learn more on how it works and to become less addicted to service repairs. I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum. If it is, please direct me to the right one. Thank you!

  19. Hi all, I'm sure this has already been covered but I can't seem to find the relevant thread, if I've missed one please push me in the right direction... Looking at getting a mk2 polo coupe s and wanted to do some research into engine swaps, I know one of the more popular swaps is the 1.4 16V AFH, but as you can't seem to find them anymore I was wondering if anyone has swapped the 1.6 16V from the 6n2 GTI. I've seen lots of people doing AFH/GTI hybrids but didn't know if there was space for the full 1.6 lump. Any other ideas welcome and sarcasm appreciated! Cheers!

  25. Hello. Been the proud owner of a 6n2 gti for about 2 years now. Had some intermittent starting issues recently especially when re feeling. I was told it could be the duel fuel pumps. Not sure as I never managed to get a definite answer!! Any ways. I’ve been looking at doing an engine swap. I’m a weekend mechanic with limited experience. I’m sure I couldn’t do it and get it right. Got a quote from one company that do it all in! £10k!! So that’s out the window. Does anyone have any suggestions. I don’t want to spend too much! But I love this car!!! Help. Gary
