    Mk2f AVY 1.6 16v

Hello Polo people, Im looking at putting a 1.6 AVY (GTi) engine into my mk2f coupe running standard injection/management and have it looking OEM so alot of wiring to sort out but the main problem that iv got is getting around the fly-by wire, I know you can fit a AFH throttle body but that's not really away around it because the ECU will still think it's fly-by?? Any information would be great.
  4. I currently have mk2f polo coupe with a 1043cc 4 speed and im looking to upgrade to a different engine and looking for advice and which to go for 14 afh, 13 gt, 14 8v etc appreciate the help cheers
  5. hey polo peeps!! I've fitted 6n2 GTI hubs onto my 6n2 1.4 8v and now the wheels are toed in massively ! the hole for the track rod end to go into is 10mm closer to the steering rack than the 1.4 hubs and I've now been 2 weeks without my only car trying to figure it out. so far the only solution myself and the mechanic at the garage doing it while I'm at work have is to put threads further up the track rod and chop the ends off to make it fit but surely there's something were missing ? some part that needs changing???? I'm at a loss and I want my car back from what shouldve been a 20 minute job ? anybhelo appreciated- we've checked ball joints, track rod ends, checking wishbones soon but everything seems to be the same !!!
  6. Hi all, I was hoping my first thread to be me starting with my Polo project, but that needs to wait until I fix my other Polo, for which I need a bit of help as a quick search didn't pan out :( Basically the troublesome Polo has issues with cold start. It starts and cuts off almost immediately. After 5 minutes of struggle to rev it, it manages to stay on, and after a while (as it warms up), there is no problem with starting it again... Starting it directly on LPG also has no issues. So generally I though the petrol pump was bust, but I checked with another one, and there is no difference. The only error it has is about the lambda sensor. It had it way before any issues where presented. At some point the catalytic converter was also removed. The throttle body is also clean and working properly. So as I have another 6n2 Polo with the same engine, I wanted to swap the lambda sensors and check if it would change anything. We only managed to swap the MAP sensors and make sure it is not from them, as the lambda sensors apparently are different. So the question at the moment is why are they different? The troublesome Polo is using a square plug sensor, where the other one is using the way cheaper flat plug sensor :) If I get a flat one for the troublesome Polo and just rewire the plug will it work, as this is normally done with other vehicles, using universal lambda sensors with the existing original wiring?
  7. Hey guys! Winter is coming and I don't really plan to need my Polo that much Thus I'm thinking to invest some time in tinkering with it. I will soon start a build thread for it, as I initially got it just for a backup car, but now I want to "play" with it . Before that thou, I wanted to ask some questions, about things that I'm not fully clear on I do have some power issues with the car. The clutch cable and the clutch itself were garbage when I got the car, and I fixed them, but the shop didn't do a good job with the clutch cable and I'll need to replace it again - the clutch pedal is very heavy, noisy, sticks often and doesn't release smoothly. Still when I compare the car to my brother's Polo (same engine but AUA), there is very noticeable difference in how the car accelerates and how much easier and quicker it revs - it did also have clutch and cable changed at about the same time. It is good to mention that the AUA Polo hasn't seen proper maintenance in about 3-4 years, while in the past 2 years it was running with a faulty head - losing a lot of oil and coolant regularly. Still after a simple head gasket change, clutch and cable it runs times better than the AHW Polo that seemingly doesn't have anything wrong with it... Both Polos have their Cats removed, where for the AHW I have a whole new exhaust, except the manifold. So, either way I do plan to service the engine of the AHW Polo. And I do have the bold idea of trying to do it myself, mostly as a challenge What I want to do: 1. Service the head: - new set of inlet and exhaust valves - new valve seals - polish on the head and the valve beds - outsource - new gasket 2. Block - probably just cleaning the cylinders and changing the rings 3. Timing belt - belt, pulleys, water pump, etc. Most of the things above are fairly well documented, and I shouldn't find it very hard to do, but I do plan on upgrading the engine in the future at two-three stages, and wanted to know if I should plan ahead, if I'm opening the head Stage 1 - GTI upgrade I already have inlet and exhaust manifolds + throttle body from a GTI. I do plan of adding them after servicing the engine. And as far as I know I will need to remap the ECU for the new throttle body Question 1: Should I even bother with trying to remap the ECU myself, when the change is only the throttle body. An ECU tool is fairly cheap and I think it should be a nice entry level job At a later stage I might go for the supercharging fun, but wanted to ask about the engine mods that I see being done around it - fast road camshafts, decompression plates, bigger valves, etc. Question 2: Should these things be done to the engine only when adding the supercharger, or they can be done earlier? - are these the cams I should be looking for? - can somebody quote me which bigger valves are being used in such a set up - would a CLK W208 supercharger do the trick? Question 3: If I decide not to go for airflow mods, should I just add better cam shafts to the GTI mod and call it a day? Do the new cam shaft (either from a 101hp 1.4 16v or a fast road one) require a remap? Note: I was thinking about an engine swap, but I decided to play with this engine. I do have a bigger engine car and I am not really looking to make this Polo be something crazy.
  8. Anyone know if a BBY 1.4 16v from a 9n will fit into a MK2F? I have a 9n thats gonna go to the scrapie soon but will chuck the engine into my MK2F if it does fit .
  9. Hi people been looking for Exhaust valves for my AFH now struggleing to find any that are good enougth. Been offerd BGA which i refuse to fit because of past experiances Been sent AE belgium valves from euro was a miss matched set of 8 which were poor state and i dident want to risk fitting. Been offerd some OSVAT VALVES from another firm but there isnt much on net about them and there made in italy. Im un sure wether i trust these due to the lack of info on net. Idealy i wanted VAG ones but they are no longer made for VAG and theres no stock anywhere in the group. Forgotten o.e no. but dimensions are HeadDia 26mm Stem length 97.20mm Stem Dia, 6mm IIRC Advice would be greatly appriciated.

    My Red 6n2 Build Thread?

Hi everyone! My name is Alex and im new to club polo, i drive a flash red 5 door 6n2 polo and i love it! ive had the car for a while now and have started to do some modifications to get it how i want it to look, i am on a student budget so coilovers will have to wait until i can save up - anyway, here is my build thread so far! So the little polo had been sat for years in a bush with a broken gearbox and plants growing all over it, until i came along and with help from friends and family we got her a new box and got her on the road. This is her stock on standard steelies - such a pretty little machine! First thing i new i wanted was wheels, so my dad got in touch with a mate and managed to get me some BBS RAs - from a mk2 golf gti! Then i decided to paint a few things. First i did my front grill black to make it stand out a bit more - i also painted my front splitter red to make the bumper look a bit smoother, what a difference that made! i got a hold of some new door speakers for free so i installed those with new grates - they sound way better than my standard ones i thought my front end could do with an added touch so i took the 16v badge from my engine cover and glued it to my grill - looking good! also got a guy on facebook to photoshop my car slammed! Its gonna look so good! hopefully i will remember to upload some more photos as the build progresses! Or simply follow me on instagram @alex.6n2 ??
  11. Hi All, Looking at a couple of small performance upgrades on my 75bhp 6n2 (even though I said I wouldn't......) Toying with the idea of fitting either a 100bhp or a GTi inlet manifold and throttle body. Before I hit the buy button, can anyone confirm that these parts will fit straight on to my 75bhp without any major modifications being needed?
  12. Hi guys, I am from TUNISIA, I bought a 2001 6N2 1.4MPI it has 65hp witch is not even close enough power. sadly in TUNISIA we don't have much to choose in the used market 1.0MPI (Tunisian specs: no air bags no abs...nothing maybe AC) so I can only engine swap it.... then again there are no 1.416V breaking to buy from so I turned my head to the only available 1.416V VW relative the MK4 GOLF. So my question is do the 1.416V unit +transmission from the GOLF MK4 drop in straight (with ECU and wiring loom) if so do the GOLF's engine mounts suffice if not what exactly should I consider

    Sounds of the Polo 16v

  14. Hi everyone, in short- i have an aua code 16v engine that currently has a torque converter on as it was taken from an auto, am i able to just swap that to a flywheel and clutch or are there differences in the end of the crank? Any help appreciated, George
  15. okay I've posted this before when i had no idea of what it could be so I'm not really sure if its wired in properly but i followed a post about wiring the mk2 ignition in and I'm sure I've got it right but I've still got no spark ! the only thing that i can think off is that my coils is at fault and I'm in need of a new one but still would like people to have a crack at trying to solve my issue i know the rest once I've got the spark so no need on telling me the rest of the set up but its just getting the spark I'm not to sure where I'm going/gone wrong i need this car to fire before next week so if people can help me out as much as possible thank you
  16. Hi fellow Polo owners, currently the belt on my alternator is soon about to snap, is it a huge issue if it snaps?, will it f**k my engine up ? Cause I've been told it will please help I'm scared to drive my car. Yes I'm a rookie, insult me all you like xD can you send me links to what belt I need to buy please?
  17. I know this has been gone over multiple time in multiple places.............. But I am thinking of fitting carbs to my AFH engine, when I eventually fit it, in order to circumvent some of the wiring issues I am likely to have. I have read a lot of the 'how to' posts and those specific to fitting carbs and I had a classic Mini so I have a reasonable understanding of single carbs, so not too worried about the fitting/operation. My question/request is could someone post a picture of the ignition wiring I need from a MK2 (annotations would be very helpful too), as I have no idea what it looks like and I am planning on trawling the local scrap yards in the next couple of weeks!! Also, I am looking at using CBR600 carbs, so again does anyone have an annotated picture showing all the connections? (or just point in the direction of where I might find these things) Thanks in advance!

    8N gearbox ratios

So, whilst going through my Polo spares I have come across a couple of gearboxes. I know that one is an 8P, one I cant get to to see the code, and the other is an 8N. Looking online I can only see that the 8N was possibly used in either the 6N Polo of 1,3 Mk2 Golf, but can find no reference to the ratios. Anyone have any clues as to the ratios? Have a 1.4 16V that I was going to clean up and put in the Fun and wondered which gearbox to fit to it.
  19. I'm glad I've got this car now, I think it's quite nippy in comparison to others in its class, but my LOLA is fully stock right now as I save every penny I can, to invest in her before summer arrives. I wasn't sure what to get now that my ban has been lifted & with a full year tax & insurance, I'm intending to make Lola shine as I ride through these Suffolk streets, where I live there is a healthy car scene, so evidently, I want to make my chariot stand out, so I can attend my gigs & events in style, while not look like a boy racer, but a mature enthusiast & let my VAG turn a few heads. At this point, nothing has been done, other than a service & a full tank of fuel, as I'm also buying my missus the A3 she has been nagging me for, so I don't have to carry the kids in mine, because I'd just be kidding myself, given all the wear & tear they can provide, lol. So this is my toy, my mobile man cave, on the day I took these pics we were just about to drive to Hunstanton beach, for this Easter holiday, so the car is full of stuff, but it's taken 140+ miles of driving, for her to grow on me, now I can't wait to get back home & get stuck in...my wishlist has grown but hopefully you'll like the finished article. I hope you'll joined on my quest to transform my little Lola in time for summer. My plan: 'Keep her simple!' - I like the 1.4 16v motor, so other than a performance Filter & exhaust system(unless someone shouts Webber Carb Conversion!), I want her serviced & performing up to spec. I'm focusing on perfecting the bodywork & paint, so she looks brand new. I need to paint the calipers, fit a set of coilovers & a set of alloys, at this point I like the Montreal II. I want a spotless clockpit & a better double din stereo to listen to my new material, while on the move. She needs halogen bulbs & model badge removal, maybe a boot spoiler & tint the glass a little darker, plus one or two little personal touches to finish up. Simple but effective, ultimately I want the new GTI but that's another story for another time!!!! But for now, this is my LOLA 9N.

    First Car Polo 16v

Howya bought this polo for cheap with a friend (took wheels & gti stuff off it) for cheap as a project to tidy up, some of you might recognise it as it was on here before when it wasn't rougher than a badgers bollocks!!! 2000 Polo 1.4 16V UnKnown Coilovers 14 inch SE wheels Flocked Roof and Pillars Tinted Back three Windows Flushed Boot Drivers Window broken Before: Bought Like: Now:
  21. Hi, having always been a vw fan and owned numerous mk1 and mk2 golfs, I recently (6months ago) bought a red, 6n (2000) 1.4, 8v open air for the wife (as she is tiny and keeps bumping and rubbing things with the old 316 BMW!). The polo still hasn't been on the road legally... I wanted a vw and after looking at a 1.9 diesel polo I liked the build quality, size and feel of the 6n. the one I found was solid, in dire need of a service and cheap..... A lovely, agile and lively motor, surprising me with just a 1.4 8v. It failed the mot on a few things including the lambada and here was my excuse to put in the 1.4 16v motor that I had been reading about... 40 more horses and redlining at 1000rpm more sounded like more fun :) Found a donor with low mileage one (70k), now engine and some other bits (brakes, grill, rear spoiler etc) has cost more than the car.. swap went ok apart from I forgot to take the immobiliser and key off but got around it with immo bypass off ebay. Fired up instantly! Stainless pipe and crap induction kit from the donor car too, the thing sounds amazing, and goes like stink now! So now I'm hooked... I don't want to hand it over to get bumped and rubbed against bushes and god knows what she does with the car! I'm now emotionally attached to bandora bandito.. (Yes it has a name, sad I know.. But it came because of a autocorrect and now it's stuck!) I am thinking about getting 15" wheels but I'm undecided as to what yet. It's still not on the road yet and u can see odd wheels and it's still on stilts. Any suggestions on wheels? Also I'm considering weather or not to take off the bump strips or not.. Looks ok and OEM with the red paint but would it look better without? A respray is also on the list and bigger brakes. Any suggestions on a decent interior?
  22. Hi folks, valver is in need of new lower arms and balljoints, but prices seem to be a bit daft, fairly sure I got an arm for the old 8v for less than £20, had a quick price up tonight and looking at £100 for 2 lower arms and balljoints! anyone know of any good sources that are a bit cheaper, dont want monkey parts or chocolate arms if it can be helped!
  23. Just wondering in the basic block and gearbox will fit in the engine bay area. Assuming that new gearbox mounts etc will be needed, but wondering if people know if it will fit. Including afterlives placement and length etc? thanks

    Mehow's first car - 6n2 16v

Hey guys, my name is Mehow and I'm an 18 year old lad from London. I've written up a much more detailed thread about my car on Stance Works, however I thought i'd be fitting to make a thread on here too. The S|W thread is way more detailed as I got quite tucked into the write up over there, but I'll cut it down for you guys here Long story short, back in November I was one of those 17 year old who just passed their driving test I got myself a part time job and saved up enough to afford my first car (with a little help from my parents, who I've not payed back) My insurance restricted me to a 1.4, so the hunt for the more desirable 16v begun I'm a true car guy, so I've done my research at this point and I knew exactly what I wanted Canyon Red SE, 51 reg with a sunroof and rear speakers Then this thing came up for sale not too far away Black Diamond Magic S, X reg... full poverty spec, no speakers, no sunroof no nothing. The cup holder was the only optional extra her The good bits? Most of the service history was in tact, it only had 79,000 miles on the clock and the guy wanted £680 for it I sent my dad off to take a look at it whilst I was at school (my dad is not into cars, sending him was the first mistake of this whole build) Dad was happy, I was happy, why wouldn't I be right?? Insurance and tax sorted, and my dad even haggled the £80 Fast forward to 9:00 on the same day, it's dark and rainy and I'm outside The central locking works, lucky me looks like the ebay central locking has held up First time I drove a car since passing my test 3 months ago, it was rainy and dark. 40 mins later I make it home Next morning I get to see what I really spent my money on Halfords wheels from the previous owner are there Paint is scratched to shit But, the important thing here is, I just purchesed my first car - to say I was excited was a very very big understatement It may have been budget spec, however... The engine is more powerfull than your average 6n2, theres disks and callipers on the front and back and the tires were fairly sporty and new If it's just me in the car, this thing whizzes - perfect little motor for me, the sort of raw driving experience I dreamt about before buying a car 1 week into ownership, engine light comes on Now let's get this straight, I'm poor and even £100 worth of expenses into my first week of owner ship seemed dreadful to me I booked myself a slot at the local mechanic I shall leave the story here and carry on tomorrow, I have plent of updates to come Thank you for reading
