Welcome to the build thread of my 1989 Mk2 Breadvan. I bought this Polo back in January 2018 off of a family friend who's family owned the car from new. The old girl was looking a bit sorry for herself but it was time to change that and within a week I had bought some Rotas ready to go on. (Ended up being sold for a set of BBS instead). Sat high and mighty on the rotas Bumpers off (and in the bin) Lowered 60/40mm Grille painted with the red lines and yellow tints on the spotlights Front indicators mounted in the front valence 6n2 Front and rear seats fitted 6n steels (scrap wheels to keep mobile) As you can see however, rust was a bit of a problem. Luckily mostly surface bar a hole in the drivers door. Or so I thought This is the part where a project gets longer. A lot longer. Bottom half of the drivers door was really bad. Next step, volkswagen classic parts and a fresh lower half panel from Germany inbound. Turns out there wasn't much left that was any good on the front valence either, or either wings. Oh and the driver's rear arch and the sill too. 🧐 With the fresh panels all on (including a second hand bonnet) it was time to do some rust prevention and primer ready for paint. The front valance got the custom treatment with the smoothing of nearly all the standard holes for bumper mounts, tow eye etc and gussets for airflow over the original square holes. The tow eye was changed for a more modern style screw in type. The rear bumper mounts and rear valance also got the same treatment with smoothing.
