  2. I've just gone to change the brake fluid on my AEX 6n, did both rears fine but got to the front and it looks like someone has taken a hacksaw to the bleeder screw? Can't get a grip on it at all with moles, or by heating and bashing on a smaller socket. Its seized in pretty tight anyway. As it had got dark i tried continuing the change by taking the brake hoses off the calipers and just letting the fluid run clean, then tightening again. This was probably a stupid move as the brakes have basically lost all power, only biting the tiniest bit when the pedal's on the floor 😞 Is there any way to do this? Don't want to take the calipers off as the rubber boot on the bolts is also missing, ie a horrible, rusty, dirty job. Cheers

    VW Polo 6N 1.4 8v Open Air

    Hey guys, So here is my VW Polo 6N 1.4 8v Open Air with 60 hp from November 1996. The car recently have been painted and the engine all rebuilt, the car is pretty much brand new ! Now I'm focusing in the interior, specially the roof. I have leak on the sunroof that is driving me mad ! I've been trying to fix it for the last 4 years... I hope you guys appreciate the car as much as I do ! Cheers !

  5. hey polo peeps!! I've fitted 6n2 GTI hubs onto my 6n2 1.4 8v and now the wheels are toed in massively ! the hole for the track rod end to go into is 10mm closer to the steering rack than the 1.4 hubs and I've now been 2 weeks without my only car trying to figure it out. so far the only solution myself and the mechanic at the garage doing it while I'm at work have is to put threads further up the track rod and chop the ends off to make it fit but surely there's something were missing ? some part that needs changing???? I'm at a loss and I want my car back from what shouldve been a 20 minute job ? anybhelo appreciated- we've checked ball joints, track rod ends, checking wishbones soon but everything seems to be the same !!!

  7. okay I've posted this before when i had no idea of what it could be so I'm not really sure if its wired in properly but i followed a post about wiring the mk2 ignition in and I'm sure I've got it right but I've still got no spark ! the only thing that i can think off is that my coils is at fault and I'm in need of a new one but still would like people to have a crack at trying to solve my issue i know the rest once I've got the spark so no need on telling me the rest of the set up but its just getting the spark I'm not to sure where I'm going/gone wrong i need this car to fire before next week so if people can help me out as much as possible thank you

    Gearbox code

    I need to replace my gear box on my 6n2 1.4 8v MPI. Do I need to find the gearbox code to match a replacement or just get one from a polo with the same engine? Is the gearbox code ETD or is the actually a number? If so where do I find it? Thanks in advance
  10. Hey guys has anyone done a complete hose replacement on a 1.4 8 valve 6n2? I need the list of hose sizes for the breathers etc. My main reason for doing this is that my breathers keep splitting and rather than replacing them with old pipes, I want to replace them with new ones preferably silicon ones.

    New guy needs help

    Hi everyone, been a member for a few weeks and check the forum a fair bit but haven't introduced myself so... Real name:Connor Phimister Age:22 Location: Suffolk Drives: 6n 1.4 8v Previous car history: 2.0D 206 Hobbies/interests:BMX Occupation: Machinist I need help with what route to go down to start improving the performance of the car without making it too unreliable or spending thousands of pounds.. I have a 4-2-1 mani and the car already had a stainless exhaust with no rear silencer but that's all so far. Looking into track day cams but unsure of what else is needed to make that worth while. Any advise would be a great help.

Hi folks, would like some advice if you can, for a while the car had a small rattle/resonance at approx 2.5k revs, it only ever happened at this RPM and was there if I held the revs, or passed through them, on power or off. coincidentally my car does 60 mph at around 2.5k too, and on a recent long journey i was pretty much sat at 2.5k for hours on end. as a result of this constant vibration, the exhaust now rattle a lot more. on a cold start its horrendous, I feel sorry for my neighbours, and its quite embarrasing in general too, its loud, obnoxious and people stare at me like I pissed on their kids. once moving its quiet, until about 1.7K then it begins again, then goes quite at 2k then comes back even louder at 2.5k, I honestly couldn't tell you if it comes back in again after that, I dont think it does! once the cars warmed up it goes away at idle, but its still there in the rest of the range, but now it differs if I'm on power or off it. It's not the heat shields, they have been removed, the underside ones are pending repair and the manifold one corroded away at the mounting points and came off in my hand It does sound to be coming from around the cat area, but have not had the chance to jack her up and check. I don't think the cat is collapsed either because she still performs as she should. what are your thoughts? ever had a similiar issue before?

  15. Was wondering what cams have been put into these engines (APQ) before? I'm just trying to squeeze a little more life into my 8v 6n. I'm just in process of fitting a pipercross viper enclosed induction kit & toying with the idea of a steel exhaust manifold. The engines due a cambelt change in a few thousand miles so thought it would be a good time to consider a new cam. I've looked at a 264 & a 268 deg which both sound reasonable from http://www.newman-cams.com/catalogue.html but wondering if these would even fit? Any suggestions people???
  16. Hi there Pretty sure the gear linkage has just failed on my girlfriend's 6n 1.4 CL. It had been sticky previously and there have been times where selecting 2nd and 4th were impossible, but on my way home it failed completely and the gearbox is now stuck in first gear (can't even take it out of gear from inside the car). I'm looking to replace the linkage setup asap as it's our daily, but am struggling to find one for this model. Are there any linkage/cable setups from other models that would fit ours, ie 6n2 or 6n 1.2? I'm asking as I have a spare Mk3 Golf GTI (ABF) setup here, but am not sure if it's suitable? I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to gear stuff, so any advice or help would be very much appreciated! Thanks :)

    Hi this is Penny. Haven't done a loads ATM because of MONEY, I'm not even driving the damn car yet, But there you go.. Everything that is done is quite obvious so I wont bother mentioning it ALLLL I'll just keep it short & sweet Everyone let me know what you think and what should be done/ideas but idgaf if you don't like it as its my own car so I'll do as I please. If your comment is just going to be negative, don't comment, because I don't care also get alot of people don't like stickerbombing, but its just something cheap/effective while I save for future plans. INTERIOR.. I have got plans for her but MONEY, will get there slowly. Please leave feedback its appreciated. Peace 8)

  19. Gone to the scrap heap! Thank's all for your interest. My Polo of 4 years has unfortunately been written off after being t-boned on the drivers side at a junction (by a taxi driver of course). Only 60,000 miles on the clock & no rust, so most parts are in fine condition, except of course for the drivers side front and rear door. Window, winder, electric motor, wing mirror etc. all seem to be fine! Not interested in getting another polo so it's all to go! Happy to negotiate on all prices - in fact no price on most of it - just message me and make me an offer - first come first served. Live in central Reading - very close to M4 and decent transport links - collect any time (mostly). Happy to post bits with PayPal or bank transfer payment first EVERYTHING for sale! It's all got to go! Exceptional bits.... Just over 60,000 miles on the engine, dead quiet, regular oil change, sprayed cam/rocker cover, cam belt and water pump @ around 40,000 miles 4 week old starter motor 2 year old clutch 2 year old refurbished gearbox with recent oil change bonnet bra black rear badge new leather gear gator and knob kenwood door speakers jbl 6x9s 15" alloys with 5mm tire tread all round - bit of curb rash - fine for first driver who wants a nice looking car without pranging about curbing the alloys full tool kit 16v/glx rear bumper smoked rear lights fairly recent front disks and pads Battery not for sale

Basically its higher on the right as seen in picture To be honest I dont know how coilovers work properly but I basically wound the bottom ring up and span the bottom camber bit up so its a 100mm drop (I'll try and explain with pictures) but some reason its a different height on the side, so i started turning the top ring up(Green bit on picture;which i have not touched before cus i just used the bottom bit) but it didnt make it any lower,(the yellow arrow showing where it was) i know i haven't explained very well but i dont really know what I'm on about, i've watched loads of videos but the coilovers are always different to mine, anyone help please!!

  22. Hello, My 6n2 polo has a slight vibration when idle nothing too uncomfortable, this only really become a problem when you hit speeds around 60 mph when the vibration become very bad. The vibrations get worse under acceleration but more or less go away when you press down the clutch at around 60 mph. I've had new drive shafts both sides and cv joints. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be ?? :))
  23. I followed the guide what everyone uses and re-wired them, I noticed they weren't sitting flush so followed the guide to drill the 15mm hole and file them down which has already been done, but now the 15mm hole has been drilled it doesn't seem to push into it. Heres some pictures;

Right, santa will be bringing me some coilovers but need to let him know which ones Basically I want something cheap but not second hand, so I went on Ebay and found some new for £156.00 so i'm happy paying that the brand is 'TUNINGART' I know nothing about coilover brands so if someone could tell me if these are alright? theirs a few different brands on there so if someone could tell me the best without costing more would be great. its for a 6n Also I need to know ASAP for santa to make of course. There is a brand called 'TA Technix' too?
  25. Was just wondering a few things, how come these coilovers i'm thinking of getting can be lowered more at the front than the back? Also is there anything else I need to know about fitting coilovers ect? I've changed the standard suspension on a 6N before and its pretty straight forward, is it thee same for coilovers? Just confused why the back can be lowered less? Would of thought the front would be less if anything?
