  1. New member here! I drive a 1.2l 9n3 polo, 2006 on a 55 plate. Having done a fair amount of searching I know this topic has been discussed before on here and I have a fairly good understanding of what I need to acquire and do as a result, but there are a couple of points I still have queries about: i) Which one would be the appropriate instrument cluster to go for? I’ve been on etka/oemepc and there is a bewildering array to choose from, in very technical lingo (and I like to think I’m quite tech-savvy!). ii) where can I get the instrument cluster from? I have found literally only one mfd cluster for a 9n3, on eBay, and it comes with the necessary stalks. It’s approx. £140. Is that a reasonable price for the mfd cluster with stalks? iii) However the cluster I found came from a diesel car. Does this make a difference? The tachometer only goes up to (I think) 6000rpm, compared with my current one which goes up to 7000. Aside from the fact that I have no intention of revving to 6000rpm (let alone 7000) does the fact it came from a diesel make a difference in any way? I read somewhere that even though it’s a different tachometer scale it should still give an an accurate reading. Will this one still be compatible? iv) I know that I need to get the new cluster coded to my car, but how do I actually go about doing that? I don’t particularly want to shell out for VCDS, so could I take it to my local VW dealership? What do I ask them? ‘Here, I’ve got this instrument cluster I want to install, can you code it to my car please?’ Will they charge to do this? v) Will there be any features on the mfd which might be disabled due to the age of the car e.g. mpg display? My car has air conditioning and I’ve read that the mfd pulls the data for outside temp. from the ambient temperature sensor attached to the air con system. Is there anything else I might need to look into adding? Thanks in advance for any help! It’s starting to look like quite a big job....
  2. Hi, I own a 2009 9n3 1.4tdi 70 with what I’m pretty sure is a BWB engine. I was driving recently when I thought the car went into limp mode. I switched the engine off and then tried to turn back on again, but it turned over for ages before starting and the engine warning light came on. I thought the issue might be the anti stutter valve, so I took it off and cleaned it, using the access to partly clean the EGR while I was at it. While both seemed to be in need of a clean, this didn’t solve the problem, so I got the error codes read and among five faults was the cam position sensor. I’ve replaced the sensor and the error code related to that is now cleared, but I’m still left with three errors and the long turnover before starting. The error codes are: P2102: throttle actuator control motor- circuit low P0243: turbo watergate solenoid A P0489: EGR control circuit low These can be cleared while the engine is on, but reappear at every start. Given the long turnover, I’ve been fighting a chronically low battery and haven’t been able to do any long or high speed runs since cleaning the anti-stutter and EGR. I’ve resigned myself to selling, but would prefer to get the faults cleared before attempting to. Any words of wisdom?
  3. Hey guys, Im in the process of installing the RCN210 head unit, and i've got the unit working aside from the switched live and the illumination. On the quadlock there is two 12v wires, a ground, and the CAN high and low cables, but there is also a wire (red with black stripe) that on the RCD200 unit diagram is unlabelled. Anyone know what it is? It seems to be a 12v switched wire, but in my Haynes manual there is no reference to it, and can't find anything else online. I plan on taking the illumination wire for the cig lighter/ accessory socket and splicing that for the head unit illumination. For the switched 12v can I use the 12v for that too if I shouldn't use the mysterious red and black one from the quadlock, or is there an easier to access wire I can use instead of that that doesn't involve taking the centre console out? Thanks
  4. Hi All, This is a long shot, but does anyone have any information about the wiring for the rear wiper motor on a 9N3? (it's a 55 plate if that matters) Mine hasn't worked for years and I finally got around to looking at it yesterday. Long story short, there is a small circuit board on the wiper motor that's dead. I've driven the motor on a bench from a supply and know it works fine, and I've seen with a voltmeter that the car is sending a signal to activate the wiper, and power. I guess I've got three options, Replace the whole thing. Bit loathed to do this as it's only the circuit board that's bad, and I don't have a great history buying car bits. Build a circuit to replace the dead bit. Ignore it and leave it dead. (As half of the rear heated window doesn't work it's not a brilliant option) I'm interested in making a replacement circuit as I can do it fairly cheaply, however I don't know what all the pins on the connector do. There's a 4-pin plug connecting the motor. Giving the connector pins arbitrary numbers the pin-out is like this, pin 1 - ground pin 2 - ??? pin 3 - 12V pulse when turning on the wiper or 12V constant when activating wash pump pin 4 - 12V constant Does anyone know what 'pin 2' is for, or the kind of signal that is expected here? I've spent ages on Google and found very little at all, only that it's a signal going to the car computer but no idea what it does. Can anyone help please?
  5. Hello, my polo 9n 1.4 tdi 2001 auto wipers are not working in any position. All the other settings are working fine. Is it likely to be the switch at fault or something to do with rain sensors? I dont see any thing on the windscreen that would show it is fitted with rain sensor. Also, if it is switch fault, will a switch from 9N3 fit and work fine or do they have different part numbers in 9N and 9N3? Does anyone know the part number for the 9N switch so that I can compare with 9N3 ones? Thanks all.
  6. my brothers manual for his 1.2 9n3 says it needs a haldex service. Haldex is only the 4wd versions right?
  7. Fog light bulb stopped working the other day was wondering how to replace the bulb, also do I need special tools to adjust my headlight beam?

  10. Looking at replacing the seats in my VW Polo MK4 (2003) 1.4L 16V. Currently looking at a trading website local to my country (New Zealand). I came across a seller who sells parts exclusively from VW's going to wreckage due to them being too expensive to repair. There are a lot of other listings by him and other reputable europarts sellers and I was curious at to whether or not the seats from a GTI Mk5 Golf would be compatible with my Polo Mk4. I'm not sure if the car is too new a generation to be compatible with my car and I believe the seats would also be heated so would that be supported in my car? I'm not so worried if they wouldn't work in my car, I'm just more into having nicer seats in my 9n. Also if I may add, up to what generation would seats be compatible for my Polo? If you know, much appreciated !

    Polo 9N3 Bumper Help

Evening all I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if the front bumper of a 9n3 polo comes apart, mainly the part in the middle, I'm wanting to paint it black like the gti. I know I could do it by just masking the bumper off but it'd be much easier and i'd get a better finish if I could remove the centre section and paint it indoors. Thanks in advance, Dan

    Polo9N3

I have a polo 1.4 9n3 16v. I am wondering if anyone knows how easy or hard it is to fit a turbo to my car. Obviously I wouldn’t be installing anything to crazy just a small turbo to boost my car. I have seen people saying this isn’t good for the car but surely a small turbo with all the correct additionals needed wouldn’t cause any major problems?
  13. Hi, I bought a 1.4 9N3 a few days ago. After starting from cold it sounds like it's running on 3 cylinders for just a few seconds before then running fine. It will run fine up until leaving it to go cold and then starting it again. Have just tried to start it tonight to which it wouldn't. After trying for about half an hour to get it going, we noticed that the coolant bottle has become almost full and very pressurised with some steam coming out the exhaust. After leaving it for a few minutes it then started fine and the coolant has since gone back down. Am I right in assuming the head gasket has failed or is there anything else that could be causing this? Can anyone give me a ballpark figure of how much I can expect to pay for this at a garage? Thanks in advance.
  14. Will Polo 9n3 GTI rear lights fit my Polo 9n?
  15. Decided to have a crack at replacing the sensor as it seems like a 2 min job, however being a complete noob, my brain was frazzled after opening the engine cover. Is the green thing in the photo the sensor? Any help would be appreciated, cheers.

    9n3 seat airbag

My drivers side seat airbag deployed after a bump, and I was wondering will I need a new seat or can I just replace the airbag unit?.
  17. hey hope someone can help, for past few weeks my window wipers have been getting slower and slower and ofcourse now they have completely stopped and are stuck halfway up the window now that the rain is back. I was reading a few forums that said about stripping them down as the linkage is probably just seized but i’m wondering if it’s worthwhile just buying a new motor and linkage incase stripping them doesn’t work. Anyone else had any issues and if so any advice/tutorials would be great. Thanks
  18. Hi all, I am new to the forum 🙂 I own a 2002 Polo 9N and I am planning to convert it to a 9N3 face. I am considering getting 9N3's: - Bumper - Headlights - Bonnet - Wings Is crash bar needed too? Thnx!
  19. Hi, I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I have a VW Polo 9N3 1.2 S 64 which comes with central locking. However I do not have remote central locking so I decided to purchase a comfort control module, model number 6Q0 959 433 E,which I believe can receive remote signals. However when I looked under my dash I noticed that I have a completely different module and have no idea on how to remove it. The current CCM module Model I have in my car is 6Q1 937 049 D. I have not seen any video tutorials or guides with my specific CCM model, but I have read numerous amounts of forums which say replacing the 9N3 CCM's are really easy to replace and that thhe model I purchased will fit right in. I do mot think this is the case for my car :( How would I go about getting remote central locking? Thanks!
  20. Greeting to everyone, For those who are familiar with this or already done this installation, I have a polo 2007 9n3 S and it does not come equipped with remote locking features. I am looking to install this soon as I constantly scratch my cars paint and is annoying at times. After doing some research it seems like the oem installation looks the most straightforward, Any help would be much appreciated.
  21. I’m going to be changing my inner tie rods and also my rear wishbone bushes on my 9n3 GTI i was just wondering if anyone has bought or knows of the correct tools for doing each, ive seen a few for sale on ebay but sellers can’t confirm if they will work on the 9n3 GTI. Thanks
  22. driving the other day and suddenly I lossed all power, 'EPC' light lit up on the dashboard and exhaust was smoking (White) pretty badly. Turned the car off, 30 seconds later turned the car on and it was running fine? No light on the dash, no smoke, no power loss, so just continued on. Wasn't hammering it or anything, was just normal driving when this was happening. Car is stage 2 so has a lot of different mods. any ideas what it could be?
  23. I'm starting to notice my 2009 9N3 sometimes has trouble starting. It did sit for a while and is now only starting to get used but sometimes I'm turning the key and it just turns but doesn't fire but always starts on the second attempt. I've rear horror stories online from 2007/2008 and on about the 1.2 12v having timing chain slip issues and a revised kit being available however my car is a late (09 Plate) model that was clearly manufactured after this issue being known. Could it still be the case? I hear that the timing can be checked with VCDS which my mate has, should I explore that? I did also have this issue with the idle yesterday - revs were dropping very low when stopped at lights but that seems to have stopped for now. Not sure if it's related. Car only has 52K on the clock.
  24. Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any feedback on cold air induction kits for 9n3s and which ones would be good to go for? Cheers. AJ
  25. The sensor plug on my 9n3 is completely smashed. Not the wire from the pad, but the receiving plug. Can I simply splice another in? Guessing it will be tricky keeping it dry... (The loom has a split cable - one going to the ABS sensor and the other for the brake pad wear sensor). Any pointers would be great.
