    Fern - Mk2 Polo Coupe

So this is going to be my build thread for Fern, This is Liz's old car that she had very generously sold (something thats still not sunk in yet and again massive thanks Liz) on to me with the request to get her back on the road and at the Polo Social 2018. I have no clue what way im going to go with her yet (i know im not going for silly low and back killing), as many know I do have a selection of parts from my old mk2F that's has been taking up residence in a garden for the last few years so a few of those items will be transferred over. Heres the pictures that @Liz has given me, more to come once I go to pick her up at the end of the month.

Please find for sale my Polo GTi registered 2006. 2 previous keepers and I’ve owned it for over 5 years now since 16k miles. This is quite possibly the lowest mileage 9N3 in the country with a genuine odometer reading of 30,650 miles which will rise slightly. The car has fully logged service history and has been serviced with genuine VW parts in the time I’ve owned it. I’ve got a folder full of receipts to back this up. The timing belt and water pump were changed at 30,500 miles. The car is in impeccable condition inside and out. It’s always garaged when not in use and the first owner was a car collector who also garaged his collection. The interior is immaculate. Height adjustable front seats with under seat drawers. All the cloth is in as new condition. The car also has cruise control which is a very rare option. As you can see exterior wise the car is very clean. There’s obviously the odd stone chip and other age related imperfections but it’s not been touched with a spray gun so it’s a very honest example. I had the alloys powder coated when I first bought the car so they’re in good condition. There’s not a single curb mark on any of them and all of the Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres have good tread. As for mods these are very subtle making this a really good sleeper. The front end has been polybushed. The car has also had a stage 1 remap done by Nick Wilkinson of Scarborough when I bought the car five years ago. This was not a flash and dash job, more a lot of work on a rolling road to produce a quick responding but smooth map for this car. BHP was taken up to 200bhp and I have the print outs to prove the work. The car really has to be driven to be appreciated. June service, the car has two keys and a stack of receipts and paperwork. The car has a full 12 months MOT. If you want any more information please feel free to drop me a message.

  5. Hi All, My first topic post on the forum - hope you’re all good! I’m about to buy myself a Pioneer SPH-230dab to replace the glamorous RCD200 currently installed. To hook it up properly, I was going to splash out a fine pair of radio removal keys and this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N7W5TEE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_SORTDbE0ZT2CH My understanding is that this replaces the need to mess around with any sort of converters / piggy backing off of any fuses when it comes to getting it wired. Does that sound about right? Next related question, I found this: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/252942255750 This seems to think it’ll convert my current FM aerial into a DAB aerial - does that sound legit? Does anyone have any experience with one? I’m a complete novice with all this stuff. Any wisdom about installing (I won’t need a fascia place, right?!) is gratefully received! Cheers, Paul
  6. Car Throttle: Saving Poly - A Rusty Project Car From The Scrap Yard - Volkswagen Polo Coupe S MK2 This week, we’ve teamed up with Shell V-Power to save an owner’s classic Polo from the scrap yard! The Volkswagen Polo Mk2 is the second generation of the Volkswagen Polo supermini. It was produced from late 1981 until 1994.
  7. I am looking to contact the owner of what was my first car 1990 Volkswagen Polo Ranger 1.3 5-speed in Tornado Red LY3D (REG: G573VNS VIN: WVWZZZ802LY169919). It is now showing as being untaxed and without MOT so I am concerned for it's future and would like to buy it back before the opportunity to do so evaporates forever. It's last known location was Swaffham (PE37) near Norfolk in January 2018. It changed hands a couple of times around Edinburgh and Glasgow around 2012-2014 before ending up in Norfolk. Here is a RetroRides for sale listing that I found from April 2016, I will drop them a message on there shortly. I later found it for sale on eBay in December 2016, the second photo is taken from the listing. I believe the car was purchased from the eBay seller by an Andrew or their son. Since then it has had G60 steel wheels, an aftermarket steering wheel installed and stickers applied but as I said it is now untaxed and without MOT. In April 2016 it had an MOT performed in Knaresborough, Harrogate. Any information would be much appreciated. If you are the owner, or know them, or know the cars location please contact me on here or drop an email to ThridLaneMotors@gmail.com In Swaffham: G573 VNS by Kevin Miller, on Flickr On eBay in December 2016: Look what I found: G573 VNS by Matt S, on Flickr
  8. Hi there, new to the forum. I own a 1987 mk2 polo fox coupe. The car has been restored inside and out but i am now looking for more power. The car currently runs the 1.0L 4 speed engine. I am wondering what swaps have people carried out and how easy it is. Looking into a vr6 swap at the moment. Any suggestions or can anyone point me in the right direction. Cheers
  9. Hi Guys I wanted to retrofit a unit that supported app connect but after speaking to a VW Coder not sure if I want to do it. As he told me because my VW Polo (6C) is a 2015 model when VW only introduced app connect in 2016 I would need to remove the component protection on the second hand unit (easy enough) but then would have to patch the system because in 2015 VW never had app connect and then he would need to reinstall app connect on the unit and then I would have to get a licence for app connect and even bluetooth which all in would be around the £500-£600 mark . Plus second hand units are selling for around £60. So I was wondering are there any aftermarket units for this Polo that look OEM and still work with the steering wheel or even a unit that just fits well looks nice and works with the steering wheel. I don't have parking sensors or rear camera so not worried about that

    Stateside Polo

Just picked up this 1992 Polo here in the US. As you can see it needs a thorough cleaning, the previous owner had it parked in his driveway for sometime before I acquired the car. In its lifetime it was sent to a shop to have an AEB 1.8t swapped into it. Im new to Polos but certainly not new to VW. 👍
  11. *(Sorry for the double post, didn't realise there was a specific forum for this!)* Hi all, so today out of sheer boredom, I decided to look up some old cars of mine on 'Check The Car' to see if they were still on the road! Much to my surprise, my old breadvan was showing as MOTed and Taxed! I haven't owned or seen the car for over 5 years but just wondered if anyone on here owns it or has any info about it! It was purchased from me in Surrey as a SORN project and ??went up north somewhere?? when I sold it before going off to uni, but that's about as much as I know! it was reg: G477 WMO, a white 1989 'Match' edition although 'Check The Car' is now showing it as Green! Would just be great to see how it's looking now as this car meant a lot to me! Any help appreciated, thanks. 🙂
  12. So this is a thread for everyone to offload their photos from the show to. 2019 saw us having to deal with one of the hottest day so far this year, which lead to possibly the best gathering we have ever had on a saturday night, with 40 or so people gathered to suffer an eclectic mix of music and 2 men attempt to reach the high note in Tenacious D's ''Fuck Her Gently''. While our general turnout was a bit on the low side for the Sunday S&S, the general tone of the weekend was one of a group of friends and fellow Polo enthusiasts in a field looking at Polo's. So fill this thread full of photos and videos to show how much of a good time we all had and entice others to join us next year in 2020 for our 20th anniversary Note: if your photos are on Google Photos then you will need to create a individual link for each photo and then convert them to an embeddable link on this website: https://ctrlq.org/google/photos/?_ga=2.2379127.653502450.1562096982-604220551.1562096982

Polo 6n2 1.4 16v just putting feelers out, bought for a project for myself but plans have changed and it is not a priority anymore so will be selling (unless anyone wants to swap for a mk2f). car runs and drives sound, starts sound, got 9/10 months MOT, 78k miles couple issues, the abs light is on but think it is only a cheap fix, drivers door lock is a bit temperamental and the boot lock needs replacing, got some history. decent base for a cool project. Body work is in good condition for its age. Needs a little bit of work but starts first time, runs fine and drives fine, solid car just needs some time. PM for details or any questions. Thanks👍🏻

  14. Hey up lads Ive just got the mrs a 2013 POLO 3 door 1.2TDI and was wandering if the rear door cards have got wires in already to add speakers?" Thanks chaps TIm
  15. Hi, I’m putting a remote locking kit into my 9n, I’ve been looking around for the wiring diagram to find out which cables from the passenger door I need to wire to my kit but I can’t find it any where, I have found it for the drivers door but I would rather do it on the passenger side, any advice will be appreciated
  16. After years of wanting one and a year of looking for one I've finally got one!! It's got high mileage, 165,000, but the engine runs nice and smooth. It's a bit tatty around the edges but it's probably the best condition polo I've bought yet - saying that's probably going to come back and bite me. Well we did a 2 hour drive to go and pick it up and me and my dad couldn't smile wide enough! There's a bit of rust on the arches, very minor, and minor rust on a few panels. When we got it home I went to open the door and the door handle came off - was no screw holding it in. The speakers don't work, simple wiring job. But the wheels are feking amazing condition! Don't even look like they've been refurbed just really clean! The plans for this year: *Fix door handle - probably do that tomorrow weather permitting *Fix speakers - tomorrow *Cambelt, oil change - general stuff when you buy a car. *Gradually get each panel sorted, can do panel by panel as colour match isn't vital as long as it's near enough. *But some 16v seats to steal the foam out of as the foam in the current seats has long gone - no tears though, well a tiny one. *Machine polish it. Only got one photo at the moment was to excited to take photos! Polished the wing and bumper and they came up nicely. The colours are really vibrant in person! Should be going to ultimate dubs next sunday in it.
  17. I have a 6N that is blowing a dark grey/black foam through the air vents, often into my eyes. Grrrrr! I assume this is a filter between outside the cabin and the air vents so it is quite important. My questions therefore: - is this indeed what it is? - a part number would be amazing. - is it easy to replace? I hope the entire dash doesn't need to come out. - do I need it? Thanks.
  18. This weekends bilit - hamber clay bar and polish and wax. Took about 3h but still have black trim that need attention etc.
  19. Hi guys, Tearing my hair out with my 1.0 1990 mk2 breadvan, HZ engine code When I first purchased it it needed some TLC and had new Filters, fuel tank, fuel pump, distributor rotor arm ht leads battery And brakes After almost a year it started cutting out when stopping at a junction or heavy braking. I got fed up with it and left it on the drive way and bought a new car. Fast forward a couple of years years and I want to restore it. Mostly to learn, possibly to sell after not quite sure yet. However, on trying to start the engine with new fuel it refused. Since then I have changed leads plugs ignition coil carburettor flange The distributor and rotor arm still look ok. I have 12v at ignition coil with ignition turned on and if I pour petrol/spray carb cleaner into carb it will start for a few seconds then die out. Whilst the carb was off I tried my best to clean it without doing a full service. I have also blown through the needles with a compressor. has anyone got any ideas what the issue could be? Im getting close to torching it 🔥😡 many thanks in advance if you can can help diagnose my problem. ☺️

My polo has sadly failed the recent M.O.T, on a rusty front cross member and has been given a few advisory's. It has 34,000 genuine miles on the clock and a new battery. Condition of the paint work not n the best condition and a small dent in the rear bumper. Too expensive for me personally to repair, therefore I was wonderine if you as an enthusiast would be interested as the car would be good for spares or repair. The car is drives fine. £200 or reasonable offers.

  21. I just bought a 6n1 afh polo to break for a conversion in my mk2f 1l genesis. What gearbox is best option to fit?
  22. Hello, Could anyone possibly provide a part number for the rubber grommet that is on the lower left underside of the engine cover (1.4 TDI/AMF) if you are standing in front of the vehicle? If the engine cover is flipped on its back, the grommet would then be on the lower right side. I hope this makes sense 😉. This grommets plugs into the plastic ball seat for securing the engine cover to the engine. Unfortunately, my grommet is too worn to grab a part number and I cannot find this item on ETKA. This grommet is also a different size/part number than the other two grommets on the cover. The red arrow in the photo highlights what is needed. Thanks for your help.
  23. I'm about to pull the engine on my 84 mk2 breadvan and I'm going to fully rebuild with some gt parts and porting work for fun. Is it worth doing the bottom end too? I was thinking of leaving it. Is there anything engine/not engine related that you guys would recommend I take a look at and replace whilst its out that I might not know about? I can see theres a bunch of full engine gasket sets on ebay... is there a particular one I should go for or will any do. I'd like to work on the gearbox too, again is there anything I can replace in there? which oil does it need and how much? Cheers

    Remove gearbox

Hi all. I have what I think is a thrust bearing failure. I’ve studied how to replace (seems fairly straightforward) but I have never removed/installed a car gearbox before. I cant find a tutorial on YouTube to study. Any suggestions please? Darren
