Op double the power of the ABD!

So, As the title suggests, I've set a target and I'm going tonshoot for it. Picked up the Bready in Dec 23. It had an ABD fitted but was running on the 1.0 spi system. Took it to the dyno to see how it was running and surprisingly it was OK. Lambda sensor doing its job and sorting the fuelling. Result of running the 1.0 SPI was great low down torque but out of puff up top. Played with the timing a little and settled on a better ifke abd 61bhp rather than another couple of bhp and a worse idle. Found out the cat was empty which probably helped a bit with the power/torque. Now fitted the correct 1.3 SPI, port matched the inleta little better, a 4-2-1 manifold and have some b2b testing to do on the manifold heater (hedgehog) removal. Aside from this I acquired myself a piper bp300 cam, a spare ABD engine and have begun the strip down to see what's possible. No aftermarket internals available so looking at different options. Most likely current plan is to skim the pistons and deck the block by an equal amount to get the 9.5:1 CR up closer to 11:1. I'll also do some head work and look in to the possibility of larger valves (again nothing off the shelf). I'll add a set of itbs and standalone ecu and hopefully get somewhere near my target. The whole thing would be a lot simpler with the 1.3!!! Some pics below.
  2. These last couple of days my ABD engine has started to suffer from what I think is liquid oil somehow seeping to the intake. There's oil tracing back into my air filter, and oil leaking from the top cover (I'm sure this isn't the right name), to the electrical pins (i think causing an electrical malfunction?) Once i cleaned it the car started first try but it gets really oily quickly, it may be overfilled due to a mistake of mine in the past so i'll be patching up that problem as soon as possible. as an extra note, the oil sensor (low pressure i believe) wire was chopped off and done a cheap fix (fill it with electrical tape), could that be related too? I don't want the engine to die like this, any ideas?
  3. Hello again! I'm having some struggles figuring out the rev counter (camshaft sensor) wires for my ABD ECU. Does anyone know anything about it, I believe it's in the distributor but I'm not sure of it. If possible I'd also like to know the DATA and GROUND wires as the wiring diagram doesn't identify them. And about the crankshaft sensor, there's two wires that go to the ECU pinout, red/black and white/green, how do i identify which one is ground and data? Thanks!

    Derp's Loon

Hello! Been a while since I bothered to post on any car forum's or blog anything or really interact with the world online but thats another story , figured I'd stick a post on here and see what I get back. Bought this little mk2 Saloon about 2 year ago and drove it 400 odd mile in the middle of the night with out really looking at it or knowing much about the car - was told some stuff about it which I allways take with a pinch of salt but this time turned out to be true - which is/was nice! First photo is what It looked like when I got it home. Was told, and now can confirm - 1.4 ABD engine, high lift cam, and GT injection set up with a 4 branch and chipped ECU to raise the rev limiter. Since I've had it Iv swapped out the shocks front and rear - rebuilt most the ignition system , replaced quite a bit of the wiring and most the sensors on it. Just had the passenger sill and rear arch replaced and have the drivers rear arch to do new. Ally rad and a few other odd's n sods like new roof lining, some sound deadening, exhaust parts and new (ish) black door cards all round.
  5. Hello. So I have an ABD with GT fueling/ignition I've put back together and it just won't idle. Happens whether the engines hot or cold. I can hold the throttle down and have it at 1500-2000 rpm but any lower and it'll just bog down and die with throttle still open, unless I blip the throttle and hold it at 2000 again to save it. This has allowed me to set the base timing atleast. When I go to set the idle I can't lower the rpm close enough as it'll bog down and cut out so I've held it at 1500 rpm to try that way but the idle screw doesn't seem to be doing anything no matter how far it's adjusted. When I unplug the blue coolant sensor it bogs down and dies unless I hold the revs up high at the same time, I can lower back down to 1500-2000 once unplugged. I had it timed and idling with no exhaust on the other month but forgot to save the settings. Only change has been putting the exhaust on post lambda. Crank and cam cover breathers vent to air right now. Vacuum for fuel pressure reg to side of throttle body is fine, others are disconnected and blocked off. New gaskets on intake, throttle body, exhaust and head. Timing marks line up. Tried two dizzys - 030 905 205 AB and the other AE. Two different AFMs I'll be trying a new blue sensor when the shops open on Monday but I'm not confident this is the issue. Slightly worried about cylinder no.1 valve + piston though it could be the MAF flap from back fire or something else knocking. Only happens sometimes and I assume valve contact would be a constant noise? There is more to this story but it's already a long read so any questions please fire away and any suggestions would be appreciated.
