Has anyone used a tuning chip on a 1.4 8v 6n (AEX)? There’s one advertised online for about £50 and states a gain of 6-8bhp with improved fuel economy, less flat spots etc. Trying to figure out if this is snake oil or will genuinely get a bit more fun out of my little engine. any thoughts?
Hi I've had this car for 10 years, daily driver. I was told 10 years ago I have low oil pressure. I was advised to : 1) not idle at hot for a long time 2) change oil 2x yearly. Been doing as advised and car has been ok otherwise..... and always every 6 months I change the oil+filter (10w40)..... just as the low oil pressure light starts to flicker after 45mins driving. Yesterday I bought an oil pressure tester (manometer + hose + M10x1) and have now finally tested it myself at hot. Haynes says 2000rpm at hot = 2 bars. I have 2000rpm at hot = 0.83bars (12.5psi) I will do another change next weekend - of course. Thinking also about: 1) taking sump off again and cleaning pickup tube, clean oil pump, check backlash. (cleaned sump + pickup 6 years ago!) 2) changing big end bearings (conrodsx4) for new ones (same size as current) 3) ...leaving as is, until the whole car dies.... (just got new MOT for next 2yrs ) (not in UK!) 4) dunno? any ideas to get the pressure up magically? many thanks Phil
jezisvole posted a topic in Engine, Transmission and ExhaustHi I would like to ask if anyone could shed any light on the following problem which has been getting worse during the last 6 months. When cold (damp weather too) the car will cold idle badly. Driving like this will make it jump/hesitate around 1200-2000rpm any gear. It does not like the accelerator pressed too quickly. If I drive 2 miles then switch off, it will NOT start again - only turn over. Leaving it for 10-15mins it will start ok again and then idle & run smoothly. Again, once the initial problem has gone, the car runs nicely for the rest of the day. The car has new fuel filter (correct one) and new oil separator. I have tested the imp values of the HT leads and coil pack and all values seem as per std. Every year I normally remove and clean out the throttle body too with TB cleaner and toothbrush. Spark plugs seem ok (3 pin Bosch as per Haynes Manual I have bought) Air filter is new Sometimes I add injector cleaner to petrol whilst filling up. I can think of the following possibilities but would like to hear from someone with more experience, ....rather than just replacing the list of items below (expensive) 1) injectors ? 2) coolant temp sensor ? 3) clean TB again ? (last time 1yr ago) 4) coil pack micro crack in plastic case + damp weather ? (although the car is fine for the rest of the day) 5) new plugs ? 6) MAF or air related problem / TB dirty / TB idle control ? 7) anything else ? I greatly appreciate any constructive tips to resolve this relatively new problem which for the last 8 years had never occurred. Thanks Phil
