  1. The alternator is not charging the battery in my coupe S with a GT engine. When I bought the engine, the seller gave me a brand new alternator (9AR2896G). The mount will need drilled out or the mount itself slaved to suit the top bolt diameter. That's not a problem but the new alternator has a connection which should have a 3 pin plug on one side and a separate spade connector (B+) on the other. Any help with this would be much appreciated. This car is staring to do my head in!

  3. Hello everyone. Ill double this post as my greet as neither seemed long enough for seperate posts. Im felix. Always enjoy a good forum and ive always loved vws but nwver had one. Just got my first 6n2. And within 48 hours i breakdown. Had engine management light. And around 2 hours later battery light.(to which i started to head home around 13miles and brokedown after 10 miles) and just prior to it dieing had the ecm. Abs. Temp. Airbags and oil pressure lights come on. Car then died and would just click and not start. I think ive traced it to either alternator or the alternator to battery lead. Id really appreciate input/advice as im self taught and may be going wrong! Also if anyone knows anyone in cardiff who comes out with a fancy vag laptop to diagnose please holla!   5. Hi everyone, I need some assistance in fitting a new alternator - the problem is that I can't get the alternator back into its mount. When I removed the old alternator I used the claw (crowbar thing) from a hammer to force the alternator out. However its now too tight to fit a new or the original alternator back in. What would you recommend? I thought filing a few mm off the alternator might do the trick but I thought I would check here before I ruin anything. I've tried to rotate the spacer (shown in photos) but it doesn't seem to budge after soaking it in gas plus and using a wrench (vice grip). I've attached a few photos to help show my dilemma. Thanks in advance for any advice :-)
  6. Hi everyone, I'm struggling to remove the alternator from a 1994 VW Polo MK2F AAU. The bolt, which the alternator pivots around, touches the chassis wall and won't budge. I've made a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUxVYt-CSO0 The Haynes manual suggests that the bolt should come out but I think its referring to the G40, and the bolt mounts the other way around? Can someone offer a suggestion? Thank you,
  7. I have been offered a brand new alternator by Global Power brand for around £50 pounds. It is a 90A On my 16v 6N, it has 70A one installed. My car is without the air con. Would 90A one be okay? Does it tax anything on power? Not electrically minded so guessing it only draws power when things are switched on /being used.

Recently i got new battery fitted to my 6n2 gti and after a week kept going flat took to halfords for test it was alternator at fault put recon alternator on after few days same again bought new alternator yesterday and flat again after a day was reading 13.2 when fitted yesterday any help on this as its driving me nuts
  9. Hi fellow Polo owners, currently the belt on my alternator is soon about to snap, is it a huge issue if it snaps?, will it f**k my engine up ? Cause I've been told it will please help I'm scared to drive my car. Yes I'm a rookie, insult me all you like xD can you send me links to what belt I need to buy please?
  10. Recently my alternator has given up. 1.05L 1989. I think it has been too stressed, trying to provide the battery power (which is now running my boot mounted amplifier and speaker set up) Instead of getting a reconditioned replacement (same spec), wondered if anyone knows a bolt on alternator that will handle a higher load?
  11. I notice the battery light on my Polo 6N 1.0 has come on. The battery is at 12.94v however the alternator is only putting our 12.1v. I should point out the 12.1v is at idle and I'm not sure what this jumps to (if anything) at higher revs (will check when I'm home tonight). The timing couldn't be worse as I need to take it 30 miles on Monday for an inspection. No time therefore to replace the alternator. My questions are as follows: a) is the 12.1 at idle an issue (although as I said, I can confirm if it jumps at higher revs myself tonight) b) assuming it is an issue would I be out of my mind attempting a 60 mile round trip in it? That said, I have another battery I could take for the return trip. It's a bit of a faff though replacing this on the motorway.

    Electrical Issues

    (Mods please move this post if it's not in the correct part of the forum) Kind of a long one sorry but any help would be greatly appreciated I've had my 9N3 for three odd years now and largely it's been spot on but for the past 6 months it's been a fucking pig. Basically all started when I randomly got an EPC warning light out of nowhere, looked it up, replaced the brake switch and it was sorted but about a week later I got ABS warning light frequently and the power steering would cut out for no reason. However, if I turned the car on and off again it would be fine again immediately which showed me that it can't actually be a mechanical problem. On top of this a lot of the other electrics were temperamental as fuck, such as the stereo cutting out for no reason and the interior light flickering like mad. I assumed it was a bad battery and replaced it, which solved nothing, since then, I've had another battery, replaced the alternator, cleaned all the ground points, and replaced the positive and negative cables. For a couple of days it was spot on but tonight the headlights randomly cut out as I was driving and it took a good few tries to turn them on and off again. I've reached a point now where I feel like I'm just throwing money at the problem to no avail and everybody seems to have a different idea what it might be and it's simply not worth sinking that money into a bog stock 3 cylinder 9n3. If anybody has any ideas what it could be it would be brilliant because I'm at my absolute wits end, my brain's fried at thinking what it could be and I wanna sell the car asap but don't wanna sell it until I know the car is 100% reliable and safe and I'm not mugging anyone off.     6n2 Sub Boot Build

    Hi all, I'm doing a boot build for my 2 15" 1500w Sony Xplodes, so far i have built the box, fitted the subs and placed it in the boot of my 6n2. I came in to a hiccup when I realised how I was going to power them, so I bought a JL Audio 1200/1v3 amp, but I now need to know how I will power the amp. Should I use the battery in the car already or put in another battery in?? if so where would i put it?? do I need a different alternator??   15. hi all sorry to jump in on this post but i recharged my battery today and started and got this noise from engine heres a video of the noise not sure if this is normal or not cause didnt make that noise before only after taking battery out and charging it. it has done everytime i have started it up and i left it to run for 30 mins to keep the charge in the battery wondering if anyone know what the noise could be, where it would be coming from and how easy it would be to change if needs be thanks i have a 16v 1.4 s reg 1998 polo everything is stock from when it was made.     Alternator compatibility.

    please let me know if I'm being a blithering fool here XD My alternator seems to have failed on my MK2 1.3 as the car has gradually failed to start after replacing the battery 1 month ago. I had a 70A alternator spare off a golf ABD which I had fitted to my (now deceased) Mk2f with ABD conversion. So I have now fitted it (using some fabrication to get the brackets to line up) to solve my problem. My question is, is this OK? Are the alternators actually compatible? It's just I notice the wiring is slightly different.. They both have a large ring terminal for power I presume, but the golf one has a two pin spade connector and the polo has an extra single ring terminal. The car runs, though whether or not the alternator is succeeding in keeping the car alive is yet to be discovered. please bear in mind that I am not a trained mechanic (rather a hobbyist) and I may well just be missing the necessary knowledge here. Any ideas appreciated. cheers :)
  17. hi guys, hoping somebody can point me in the right direction with my mk3 polo gt heres the issue: the battery light started flickering intermittently a few weeks ago but not a lot. then eventually it started coming on when i started the car and would turn off once i revved it a little. then it was on constantly and now the battery is flat i have tightened the alternator belt and ran the car but obviously not long enough to charge the battery enough because the battery is now completely flat can anybody advise me with what to do next?

Hi there, for some reason my battery is being charged in my 1.4 8v 6n 1997.. my car seems to be running on whatevers is left in the battery I checked the battery, thats fine, had it tested, and its fine, checked fuses, fine, checked the battery volts when car is off and running, and all it does is slowly drain, checked the alternator ground (blue wire/plug) and thats fine light on the dash is fine, replaced the alternator and still have the same problem, checked all of the above again and they are all fine! Anyone got any idea's or suggestions? Cant figure it out! very odd
  19. I have a 1988 polo 1.3 cl and I need to rewire the alternator from itself to the battery light in the dash, or bypass it altogether if it's a problem with the battery light connection. What would be the best way to do this? Would I need a separate switch for the alternator? Thanks in advance!

    Mk2 battery warning light

    Hey, a little while ago my car broke down I had to get the car picked up they guy said it was my alternator as my battery warning light was on. Since then i have fitted a new alternator and my car has been running. Today though the warning light has come on, it hasn't broken down or anything its just on and its not a real solid red its fainter than the rest of the lights like my handbrake light for example, not really too sure where to go from here as i have just fitted a new alternator. I've heard it could be relay? or battery not sure though any help? thanks

I've noticed that if the battery light isn't connected from the speedo binnacle to the plug then it stops the alternator from working and because its a really rubbish plug it's being a real pig to get the battery light to come on. Does anyone know what number wire (1-15) from the speedo plug makes the battery light come on please? Many thanks in advance!

    Did a search of the forum but could not find an answer. Bought this alternator from a forum member and want to renovate myself. Looking for the cheapest suitable regulator. Looked at the usual places but not found anything that helps. Any suggestions?

    Polo coupe GT.

    Just bought an alternator from a scrapped coupe gt on this forum and want to overhaul myself to cut costs. Did a search but no results. Anyone had experience or could point out somewhere I could get information and suppliers of parts. It's the 65A Bosch standard for the GT.
