    loom swap

I've found a "Mk2f polo fox coupe 1993 1.0 spi loom and ecu" advertised for ~£60. The loom on my Mk2f breadvan 1.0 has had someone go at it with all manner of scissors, tape and random bits and bobs. Obviously everything was done with good intentions though the back of the radio is a plate of spaghetti and there are a couple of loose ends hanging down in the drivers footwell. The radio has the reg from a 1980 escort so is obviously a replacement, 99% sure that the fitting is what caused the spaghettification of the wiring. I am very much a novice with car repairs and am by no means an electrician. A- would this even be compatible with my car, as it is a breadvan and not a coupe B- does the loom incorporate the radio, i.e would it be the solution to the dogs dinner hiding inside the dash. basically, the issue is that I have a radio that has been shoved in leaving the wiring a mess, will the loom from a coupe fit a breadvan?

    Project Mini golf

Now then Recently went in with a few mates to buy a breddy that had been stood a few year purely to make a bit of cash for my MK2 golf (hence the title, the missus thinks it's funny) Stored it on my drive, I fell arse over heel and ended up buying them out of it. So shes an 89 breddy, in white. No rot, no nastyness and a CBR powered Afh. I must add at this point that I know nothing of this car, I bought it unseen the mates who went to get it were clueless so I don't know when it was last ran/drove all I know is the last mot expired 2011 and it must have been garaged because it's in incredible shape. So before I even turned her over I pulled the carbs off, pulled the plugs, little bit of derv down the bores and let it sit over night. That night had a look inside the carbs(CBR f2) and decided that they needed rebuilt as most of the o rings were perished along with lots of seized brass. Main jets disintegrated on removal too. So if anyone wants some junk cbr f2 carbs I'm your man. Next day, turned her over by hand a few times felt good so dropped the oil, changed a few filters (thank God euros is still open) and did a bit of general poking /inspecting. turned my attention to the brakes, surprisingly okay no locking, moving freely and looking in decent shape. Ordered new carbs, new cables and a few other goodies to try and get it up and running at the weekend. Should be a laugh. If anyone knows the previous owner I'd love a chat and I look forward to having a carb'd 16v in my life again. Cheers
  3. Hi, have replaced by camshaft bearing cap studs (they are m8x56 double ended studs). I am wondering either if there is a specific vw nut which will yield correctly or be 'proper' and not a snappy ebay special boi. Is there a m8 bolt I can buy in a type of steel that will be best too? Any help Cheers George

  5. Good morning all. Hope you had the best christmas possible. Looking for some guidance with my 83 breadvan if anyone can help. I noticed in the last couple of weeks, when i start the car, there are a couple of electrical issues. The horn doesn't work for a few minutes and the lights are noticeably dimmer. Yesterday, i also noticed that when i push the horn button, the horn didn't sound but the lights did actually go a little dimmer again while i had the button pressed. The battery is a bosch, had it for maybe 2 years, possibly a little longer? The horn isn't stock but it also isn't a mega loud one, just somethin off ebay. Came as a pair of aftermarket snail horns but only used one. Bulbs are osram nightbreakers. Both go back to normal after a little drive but no specific time or distance i can make out. Can anyone advise on things i can check and rule out? I do have a multi meter but not sure what i should be checking or what settings i should have it on. Thanks for stopping by and any guidance you can give.
