  1. My dipstick levels have always been up and down for the past 4 years - can a blocked crankcase breather cause this? Always checked when car is level. Also, I've always run the dipstick to show the hatched area upwards when pulled out, but when inserted 'upside-down' the level shows halfway down in comparison - a big difference to get right: what's the correct orientation? (I keep it topped up but have recently been running a little lower in case I'm unknowingly overfilling - but then it runs noisy. It's currently about 5-7mm over the hatched area and runs fine - might be overfilled but presumed inaccurate..)
  2. I am currently in the process of rebuilding a small block 1.3, and am having trouble finding anywhere to buy the dome shaped breather that presses into the side of the block. I looked on vwheritage and ebay but had no luck. Does anyone have any idea where I might find one? Thanks, Jordan
  3. The ongoing saga continues. Question one, what is the likelihood I would have to adjust my fuel/air mixture screw after changing to a GT cam? Question two, can someone help me find the mixture screw, I have found the idle screw in the picture attached. Can the mixture screw be seen on this picture? Question three, should there be this smoke (?) chuffing out of my large airbox breather (see video) VID_20180902_162816_mpeg2video.mpg
  4. Just after a bit of advice please. Polo 6n2 1.4 16v AUA engine. Smell fuel in car when idling at a stand still. Checked breather hose, bottom half missing! Bought new hose, connected up, including electrical plug halfway down. Now there's another side pipe coming off the hose but I cannot find any paperwork to plug into this. Can anyone advise what pipe I need and where it goes to from the breather? Many thanks in advance Matt
  5. Hi all, just us a quick question, I'm going to replace the crankcase breather pod on my 91 coupe 1.3 aav spi. Has anyone replaced this before as I can't seem to find any info on the method or whether it needs some kind of of ring seal etc. any help appreciated:) cheers guys
  6. Hi guys, had a bit of trouble with my j reg 1.3 spi . Started it up for the first time in a while. After a couple of minutes gave it a big Rev and all of a sudden something went and it now runs really bad and very very lumpy. had a look and noticed the end of the crankcase breather pipe has snapped off and there is a small red snapped plastic fitting in the end... does anyone think this could be the cause and does anyone know where the end of this hose connects up. any advice really appreciated
  7. Hey guys has anyone done a complete hose replacement on a 1.4 8 valve 6n2? I need the list of hose sizes for the breathers etc. My main reason for doing this is that my breathers keep splitting and rather than replacing them with old pipes, I want to replace them with new ones preferably silicon ones.
  8. Okay so I've looked pretty extensively but can't find anything definitive- forgive me if this has already been answered somewhere! I'm looking to fit an enclosed induction kit on my Polo 1.4 8v MPI and I'm a little confused about the two pipes from the engine cover that will be loose when I remove the cover (I don't really want to be cutting it, so I can just fit it back on as standard easily if necessary). I haven't got the *best* technical knowledge, but from what I can see you need to catch the oily air from the crank case breather pipe (using a filter or a catch tank) and then apply a non-return valve to the smaller vacuum hose. So my first question (perhaps a stupid one) is this: which direction should the one-way valve go on the smaller hose? I understand it's to regulate interior pressure, so surely air going out is good (as a release)? But what if the interior pressure is too *low*? Second question; I'm guessing the crank case breather needs to be filtered so it's not a good idea to have it meet the induction kit piping *after* the filter but before the throttle body (or oil will just go straight in). What would you recommend as a solution? Those mini breathers seem like they would just get full of oil in no time...
  9. I'm currently putting a 1.3 engine from a mk2 golf into my polo (I think it is a 2G) There is a nipple on the head which started chucking oil out when I first got it to turn over. I it is plugged up at the moment whilst I get other stuff sorted but I don't believe this will do the engine any good as I imagine it is some sort of pressure relief. Does anyone know what it is actually for and where should it go? Thanks in advance, James here is a picture of said nipple. I'm posting from my iPad so I can't put one on the post for some reason, sorry. http://s28.postimg.org/77gn1jq65/image.jpg
  10. there is a outlet from the throttle body next to electrical plug. it has been blanked of on my car. where does it go. I've got engine out but cannot fine any spare or loose breather pipes.
  11. Hi, I need a new lower breather hose on my Mk2 (it's got the extra breather can), a few years ago I got one for my old car from GSF, but now neither GSF nor ECP seems to have them in stock. The only source I can come up with online is some guy on ebay selling them, and they seem a bit pricey. Are there any other decent parts suppliers I could try?
