    6n2 GTI cams

    Hi there recently bought my 2nd polo, got myself a 6n2 gti. Currently have the cylinder head off replacing the head gasket,valve stem seals, porting the head, new belt ,water pump and a couple of other small repairs. However since it's off I was looking into some performance cams. It's a long shot but is anybody breaking their 6n2 and has cams or know of anyone with a set, Thanks in advance

Hi all, ive got a 1990 H reg breadvan, its been sitting for a while, started it yesterday to let it charge the battery, just idling for a few minutes, and it started making a loud tappet noise which got louder with the oil fill cap removed , pulled off the cam cover, found some scoring and maybe a flat spot on one of the lobes, some metal shavings were in the oil around the cam and on the dipstick. i put oil directly on the lobes, cover back on and started it, was perfectly normal for about 10 seconds then it rattled again the oil light doesnt come on or anything like that so im thinking it has oil pressure? it never made any noise like that before, had the local garage do a full service on it a month ago, its done about 50 miles since then, no problems then either it did have a new cambelt, 10w40 synthetic oil and a filter but its still quite sooty and dirty looking the car also runs rough at low engine speeds with no vacuum leaks or timing issues or anything as far as me or the garage can tell how do i stop it? ive got some 20w50 in the shed, will that work temporarily or am i looking at a new cam and tappets or a new engine?   3. Found a camshaft for a 1.3 and the numbers on the shaft between the lobes is 030 9c is this a GT camshaft
  4. Hi everyone, Recently had a new crankshaft position sensor fitted on my 9N and thought I'd go ahead and replace the camshaft one as well. However, not being the most mechanical person in the world I can't find the thing at all! If anyone knows its exact whereabouts and could let me know (any pictures would be really appreciated) I would be very grateful! Cheers for reading and have a good day.
  5. Hi I am thinking of changing the cam on my mk2 with a standard 1.05L HZ Engine. I know a GT cam would be the obvious choice but the chance of finding one and being able to afford it is remote. So I was wondering if a Camshaft out of a different engine would fit straight in and still give a power increase? Doesn't matter about the mechanical fuel pump side of things because the car has an electric pump fitted. And another question... My mate has given me an exhaust manifold and headers off a 1.3 mk2f, which has the twin down pipes (4-2-1) instead of the single (4-1) pipe on the 1.0. Firstly will this fit on my polo without fouling on the Anit-Roll Bar? and secondly will it give any power increase? Thought id better ask before I start cutting and welding exhaust pipes worthlessly. :P

    Fuel Pump Problems

    Help! I've just completed a cylinder head gasket change on my 86c Coupe S with the 1272cc 40kw (54bhp) MH code engine. After re-assembly and first test fire I have no fuel being drawn through the system. I have taken the fuel pump off and operated it by hand (its the mechanical variety) and it works no problem. Which means the cam is not operating the fuel pump. This leads me to believe that there is a follower or rod in between the fuel pump and cam shaft that I have some how lost in the process. If this is the case does anyone know where I can find a new one? Or if anyone else has had this issue, please advise, I'm a bit stuck.
  7. Hi everyone, i have a 92' mk2f which has a 1.0 engine. its really fun and surprisingly nippy. Ive been thinking about doing some engine upgrades and don't want to do something extravagant as a) i don't have the experience or the masses of time required and b) the money. When i bought my car the previous seller gave me a gt camshaft which he bought to put into the engine however never got round to it. My 1.0 is really clean and smooth and is the reason to why i don't feel reluctant to tamper with it however i really want some gains. if i was to put the cam in My questions are is it worth it the power gains? will it cause any future issues with engine, timing, startups ect. (i really don't want to open the engine up to have to face issues in the future just because the engine is so clean being only a 60k) is it a simple mod to do? labour costs ( i would try myself however I'm stuck with loads of uni work and I'm not experienced enough) has anyone done this before? thanks to everyone that can help :)
  8. Been searching but can't find anything about it, it's meant to of been taken out of an ABD engine, can anyone confirm this? If so is there anything different about it to the 030AH? Thanks, Joe.
  9. Was wondering what cams have been put into these engines (APQ) before? I'm just trying to squeeze a little more life into my 8v 6n. I'm just in process of fitting a pipercross viper enclosed induction kit & toying with the idea of a steel exhaust manifold. The engines due a cambelt change in a few thousand miles so thought it would be a good time to consider a new cam. I've looked at a 264 & a 268 deg which both sound reasonable from http://www.newman-cams.com/catalogue.html but wondering if these would even fit? Any suggestions people???
