Hi there, my recently acquired '92 Polo coupé was a 1.0 but had a 1300 engine fitted previously, to the original 4-speed gearbox. With the car was a 5-speed 085 box which I would like to fit. It looks OK, everything rotates properly, the inspection panel reveals clean insides, and the casting codes are SEAT 085 301 103C with a further 085 301 107A under the bellhousing, and a stamp on the top of the bellhousing which reads 48 CEE 29013 379041. Does anyone know what this box is from and if it can be fitted to the 1300 injection engine? Also, I'm guessing that if it fits the gear-lever linkage will need to be modified too. I did this a few years ago on my '79 Golf 1.5D to which I fitted a Golf Mk2 box, and copied the shape of the lever from my '81 1800 cabriolet which is already a 5-speed. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Robin

Converting points ignition to electronic
Gary Court posted a topic in Engine, Transmission and Exhaust
Hi, everyone, Given that I have recently encountered poor running problems with my GL 1043 CC motor. I suspected the distributor to be the source of the trouble. Due to oil from the engine getting onto my points. Given that the vertical movement of the shaft was evident. I was fortunate to obtain another points Bosch distributor with the same drive tangs. However when I tried fitting it to the car, poor running problems persisted. On closer inspection I discovered given it fell off, the low tension terminal to the broke off the wire, at the distributor connection. I have made up a new wire with soldered connectors as opposed to suaged. I feel this will cure my poor running. But given I have longed to have an electronic ignition system on my car. But discovered that later electronic distributors have a single post to engage in a hole in the end of the camshaft. I am wondering if it would be possible for me to obtain an electronic distributor, remove the drive peg from the shaft and replace it with the double tang type so that it would engage the slot in my camshaft. Assuming this would work? What else would I require. An electronic type ignition coil, and an ignition amplifier Wired into my ignition switch? I welcome any suggestions.- 5 replies
