  1. Hi guys, i have a polo 6n what I’m looking at updating the front end. I have a Full 6n2 front end ready to go on! Just seeing if there is much too it I know the wings are shorter but the bumper comes around more on the 6n2 just seeing if anyone has done it and if you have to move or mess around with the rads or the front smash bar! Cheers

    Jordan's MK2F breadvan

Hi all been wanting to do one of these for a while but only just got the chance i bought my mk2f breadvan from stockport around september 2017 & it's been an on going daily project ever since. i painted it blue with graffiti paint lowered it on an ebay lowering kit & started doing shows in 2018. after blowing the first 1l engine up i did a quick engine change to another 1l for under £100 just to keep the car on the road. comes to november 2018 time & i wanted to start a winter build. started with painting the car, the car is now melon yellow - done with montana graffiti cans. yes i painted over the windows because i liked the look of a panel van & couldn't be bothered trying to track down some actual panels. bought a GT conversion with the 5 speed short ratio box, stainless manifold and a few extra bits. i liked the idea of having brand new parts even if the old ones were fine.. driveshafts, front coilovers, top mounts, bottom arms, track rod arms/ends, ARB Blocks etc. this build isn't the best thing ever but certainly is a eye catcher & i love the thing aha. this car is built to what i like... not what other people think. if i listened to everyone else it'd be sat here with a 40/60 lowering kit on bbs hahaa STRIP - DROP - RATTLE - ROLL (a motto i like to use from a club called DUBRATZ) if anyone has any questions feel free to ask. photos may not be in order the car currently isnt finished & i'm waiting for a few parts to arrive, i've just bought a new bonnet & wings as ones on the car had dents. follow me on insta: _jordoan_
  3. I can remember being told by my insurers that in the case of an engine swap declaration, the new price is calulated according to the donor car. So my question is: if I were to swap say from a 1.3 3F GT to a 1.4 ABD, might the insurance decrease as the 1.4 Golf is presumably cheaper to insure than a GT (don't know if it is actually cheaper - just in theory)? Or, is there a 'tax' added for the extra perceived risk of an engine conversion? Has anybody ended up with cheaper insurance despite using a larger engine - say specifically a 3F to an ABD? Or did it increase?

    1.8T AUM conversion

Yes the age old question of swapping a 1.8t into a polo but not any polo a mk2f polo. What im after is some advice about keeping the original clocks in the polo but running a 1.8t but I’m struggling to work out what I can do for a loom to get it all working correctly, ideally I need the obd port for possible remapping in the future and if the engines running rough. I’ve got both cars next to each other so it should make life easier but I doubt that 😂 It it will probably be easier if I bullet point my answers any advise is welcome Can I run 1.8T (AUM) on it’s own with out the immobiliser? Can I have it push butting start with out needing the key and clocks? Can I use the existing ECU? What driveshafts should I use? What brake setups are best for this? Would it be easier if I got a new pedal box because the AUM is DBW ? Thank you in advance Harley
  5. Hi! I've been meaning to get around to fixing the carb on my old Mk2, and I'm playing with the idea of doing a weber conversion. I am at the stage of working out how feasible this is in terms of parts availability. I know that there used to be whole conversions available but, of course, now there aren't... right? Although it does look like there has been a new run of the carbs themselves being produced. I know that the names (DMTR/DMTL) just tell you what side the throttle is on. What do the numbers mean? Guessing venturi size, but what is appropriate for a 1.3 litre engine? I can find an adaptor plate on webcon for £43, but I don't know about any of the rest of the kit (choke cable, air box mounting, studs, etc). What's a good way to go about this? Sorry if I'm asking stuff that's already been answered, there's a couple of old (10 year old) threads, but it looks like things have changed a bit.
  6. Hi guys let me know if this is in the wrong section! Really hoping to change my polo 1.3 mk2f to a g40 engine; was looking to do a 1.8t but recently decided a g40 conversion would be more suitable. Just wondering how complex/possible it would be. Also any info on sourcing an engine. I presume it would fit quite nicely as the front end is oretty much exactly thr same... Mainly want to know if the g40 swap would require some kind of engine management and how i may go about doing it as i cant find much info online! Any info would be amazing thank you so much. Ben
  7. Hello. Been the proud owner of a 6n2 gti for about 2 years now. Had some intermittent starting issues recently especially when re feeling. I was told it could be the duel fuel pumps. Not sure as I never managed to get a definite answer!! Any ways. I’ve been looking at doing an engine swap. I’m a weekend mechanic with limited experience. I’m sure I couldn’t do it and get it right. Got a quote from one company that do it all in! £10k!! So that’s out the window. Does anyone have any suggestions. I don’t want to spend too much! But I love this car!!! Help. Gary
  8. Right, so I'm mid way through my Mk2 breadys engine conversion, it is my first engine conversion so its took some figuring out so far, but I'm nearly ready for engine in except for a couple of little bumps in the road. So to start off with I've got APQ 1.4 8v apq engine and DOW 5 speed box to go with it, and I'm swapping it for my old 1litre 4speed, so far everything fits or transfers across seen as the engines are nearly identical, I'm ditching the injection system and running it with the original 1 litre head and a 1300 golf carb, everything fits nicely and that bits all sorted, the problems are, 1. Main coolant pipe from the water pump and 2. Top gearbox mount and driveshafts 1. The original coolant pipe doesn't fit, so I have to get the 1.4 pipe, but from looking into it, the old pipe has three ports on it, 2 of which go straight to the carb to control the choke I believe, and the other heads straight to the header tank, whilst the 1.4 pipe only has one port, that goes to the heater system, so how can I get around the pipes to the carb, a friend of mine has suggested that I get the new pipe and run the carb on Manuel choke, but that obviously means doing some modification to the carb, but I dont really know where to start on that haha 2. Top gearbox mount is rather different, the original has 3 studs on top to bolt the mount onto, where as the 6n mount for the gearbox mounts onto the car in a completely different place, and also, will the drive shafts be long enough and actually fit, I'm Sure someone who's done a 5 speed conversion can help with this. any help given will be much appreciated
  9. ive started a swap ..mk2 polo to 3f mpi injection etc the 2 yellow wires for the diagnostics ...the diagram i have shows it going to the interior loom white wire which is heater speed 1 ? doesnt sound right to disable the heater has anyone go a working diagnostic socket on a mk2 swap ...i need pics /help
  10. Hi guys i know iv been quiet on here for a very long time sins i sold my last polo which i dropped the GT engine in but now im back with a question for the guru's here as i have found a lot of conflicting information scattered about the internet regarding this. First of all let me start out by saying im looking at doing about 3 different engine conversions at the moment and dont want to waste my time / effort on the polo if its not going to work anyway as i have a e36 BMW to take a 318i 8v engine out of and put a 318is 16v stroked engine in for definite. Along with that i may be helping a mate of mine convert his k10 micra 1.2 to a 1.6 from a almera. Which leaves me with 2 possible engine swaps which only 1 of can be done. Iv got a 1.6 AEE MPI engine which has some kind of performance cam sat on my garage floor at the moment which came from a 1996 mk3 golf which i stripped kept the engine as i know the AEE is known as a fairly tune able engine with someone pushing one to 240BHP anyway once i had a better look at it i realized it looked a lot like the AAV / 3F engines i had pulled out / put in my old polo. Then as luck would have it again a MK2F came up for sale locally and i managed to swap a BMW e36 vader full interior for it which worked out in the sellers favor anyway as he wanted £450 for the mk2f and he sold the vader interior for £750 which in my opinion is cheap still as iv seen vader interior sell for £1500+ But anyway i then started searching to see if this AEE would fit the mk2f i just acquired turns i google can't seem to find me a definite answer the closest iv got to an answer is this thread on club polo: https://www.clubpolo.co.uk/topic/13935-converting-a-gt-to-a-14-and-16/?page=7&tab=comments#comment-1168668 Which works out well for me as i still have the mk3 golf this engine came from and i have a complete mk2f with a 1.0 AAU in which has just had a new clutch by my understanding if i fit the following parts to the AEE from the AAU it should fit: flywheel clutch starter (or possibly a slimline starter off a 1994) gearbox (wouldn't use the 4 speed off the 1.0 would use my old AAV 5spd box which only has 65k miles on it which would mean i need a 5spd gearbox mount for a mk2f) alternator pulley crank pulley bit of shaving of metal and plastic and jobs a gooden Obviously the rest of that guide i can disregard as im not converting it to a GT im just getting the AEE to fit and i have a complete engine not just a bare engine so i have the inlet manifold and everything with the engine. however im pretty sure there is going to wiring issues getting the AEE's loom to mate up with the mk2f loom and also the AAU is SPI so would need a better fuel pump for the AEE same as when i went from AAV to 3F on my old polo If for some reason someone knows why this won't work please let me know and i will just dump this AEE in another mk3 golf that has a 1.8 ADZ engine but its slow and sluggish compared to this AEE Also on another note the golf with the AEE in came with a clutch kit as the clutch had almost gone (bite right at the top of the pedal and a little slip) now luckily my mk2f had just had a new clutch before i got it but i have looked it up online and the AEE clutch is 24 tooth 200mm and the mk2f uses a 24 tooth 190mm clutch i know its a long shot but who reckons the AEE clutch disc 200mm will fit inside the mk2f 190mm pressure plate? and work as i read from somewhere the mk2f clutches don't handle the AEE power very well and burn out fast so kinda hoping if for some chance the AEE clutch disc fits the mk2f pressure plate that the extra 10mm diameter will help it cope with the power better. Thanks everyone
  11. hey polo peeps!! I've fitted 6n2 GTI hubs onto my 6n2 1.4 8v and now the wheels are toed in massively ! the hole for the track rod end to go into is 10mm closer to the steering rack than the 1.4 hubs and I've now been 2 weeks without my only car trying to figure it out. so far the only solution myself and the mechanic at the garage doing it while I'm at work have is to put threads further up the track rod and chop the ends off to make it fit but surely there's something were missing ? some part that needs changing???? I'm at a loss and I want my car back from what shouldve been a 20 minute job ? anybhelo appreciated- we've checked ball joints, track rod ends, checking wishbones soon but everything seems to be the same !!!
  12. I am currently doing a carb conversion on my 1.3 polo switching from the pierburg to a weber dmtl, i was wondering what accelerator cable would fit
  13. I know it's been asked for 1,000,001 times before dose anyone have a build thread for a afh conversion in to a polo mk3 coupe anyhelp would be massivly apprecaited thanks
  14. Hi all, I'm currently driving a 06 plate Polo with the AWY engine (1.2, 6V), and as much as I love it (it's my first car and an absolute workhorse) I'm getting tired of it's atrocious lack of power, and as all my mates are getting more powerful cars as their insurance is cheaper it's getting even more irritating. Because of this, and the fact I don't want to sell it, I've been trying to look into doing an engine swap for it, found an AYP 1.8 20VT engine with all the ancilliaries reasonably cheaply, and an 02A gearbox at a decent price too. So would those parts be compatible as I build a sleeper? or are there better pairings I should consider? Also, how much would it cost me do you think? I can get the gearbox and engine for 800 odd quid, how easy would it be to do myself? I can probably do everything but the loom, or is it going to be harder that I anticipated? Basically at a loose end here and can find precisely nothing of use online and any advice or guidance would be extremely helpful. Cheers :) Alastair

    AAV/AEE

Just curious if anyone knows or tried them to put a AAV head on a AEE bottom end and it would work with the AAV loom. Pretty much my block isn't in the best condition after my head gasket failed so looking at another option.
  16. Hi guys I believe I have finally got everything I need for my carb conversion for my polo 6n 1.4 8v 1999 Honda cbr600 Carbs, tci-h and loom, vac dizzy, fuel pump and choke, and coil Do I need anything else? If not it's time to install! Dizzy I know I need to get timing done, jets for carbs I believe are about 1.6mm for my 1.4 and need to get them balanced Tci loom to coil, dizzy and I believe I need to tap into the ignition fuse or ignition electric wire?? Fuel injectors out and carb and manifold in and hook to new fuel pump Am I missing something or is that about right? Please help as I'm doing this on Saturday!!! Thank you
  17. Apologies if this information is already available in the 16v conversion thread, I'm using my phone right now and that thread is tricky to follow even on a proper PC. Basically I want to know if the afh engine specifically needs bike carbs when doing a mk2 engine swap or if I can use my Weber 28/32 dmtr, if I can use the Weber what are my intake manifold options. Does the Ashley 421 exhaust manifold fit the afh engine? I understand I need a loom, does it have to be an afh polo loom or would one from a 6n 8v work? What else would I need. Again, I'm sorry to ask as I'm fully aware this information is available but I'm just after a very concise run down until I can get to my PC and have a proper research.
  18. Hey all, so the head on my 1.3 mk2 has cracked :( and since it'll need a lot of work anyway, I was hoping someone could guide me in how to source the parts, and what parts I'd need to convert the engine to an AFH? Cheers
  19. Hi all, I have the 1.3 mk2 with 5 speed gear box. With the AFH 1.4 16v, I know i need to mod the front engine mount but can I use my current gearbox? What else would I need to complete the build? ECU? Electric fuel pump? What bike carbs do i need to go with? Thanks in advance Matt
  20. Hi lads, I've a 99 polo 1.0 and as everyone I need more grunt. So last week I found something that I couldn't refuse. A 1.6 aee engine "full conversion" add. And for once itlooks like it's full conversion. So I went up to the lad and got: 1.6 aee engine with g40 cams and 1.8 throttle body, G40 box with clutch and fly to match, Driveshafts, exhaust, ecu, wiring loom. Now I need a few questions answered before I start the conversion, as it's my daily and has to be done in a weekend. Will the 1.0 mpi fuel pump feed enough petrol for this big lump? How much different the gear ratios are? (tried searching but couldn't find them, a link would be perfect) Should I get the golf mk2 8v gti injectors? And would they work good? What are the common problems that people find with this conversion? Or is it just straight swap as I'm hoping for? Any help is appreciated. Even links to older conversions. Just need guidance as this has to be done in 48 hours :-D Thanks in advance.
  21. Hi all, just need a bit of advise really. I was wondering if a g60 engine would physically fit without too much fab work into my mk2 coupe s polo. I used to own a G40 and need some power back in my life but would like to do something different. Any help much appreciated! Thanks.
  22. Hi guys! I am a noob and I am in need of advice. I have a 1994 1.3l mk2f polo with single point injection and am looking to do a conversion (either the GT or G40 whichever is more achievable). I was wandering what needed to be done as I can only seem to find info when done from carbs. Are all the heads interchangeable amongst the mk2f or would I need a different lump? Any advice is appreciated! I understand that this is vague so please ask questions and I will do my best to answer them. Thanks for your time! Peace. Love. Dub.
  23. I am really wanting to convert my 1996 (early spec) 6n to an ABF engine instead of the standard AEX lump. Can someone please tell me what exactly needs doing? I am aware I will need new mountings made so if anyone could help with that too I.e. Make some that would be great too! Thank you for any help!!
  24. Right, working on the engine conversion for my mk2 bready, was a stock 1 liter 4 speed, so i went and got a 1.4 6n 1998 engine with a 5 speed gearbox, gonna run it on bike carbs for more power and to save the hassle of having to get all the clocks, ecu, wiring loom and what not, so I'm wondering, whats best carbs to be running with it, 600cc seams to pop up alot but I'm wondering about choke and re jetting and what not, what parts can i salvage from my 1 liter to put on the 1.4 and how can i get the most power out of it, like could it be bore'd out to slam in some bigger pistons and/or shorter con rods, also heard that a 1.3 gt cam would boost it up abit too Cheers lads
  25. I have just got myself a 6n classic and I love it to bits however the 75bhp 8v lump, while pokey, just doesn't cut it. I have though about converting it into a 6n2 GTi but I don't feel it will provide what I'm looking for, so I am weighing up doing a 1.8 20v t BAM conversion. The mechanical bits I can get my head around however I am not too sure when it comes down to the instrument cluster. Looking into it I have found out that the distance sensor isn't too different from what I've got already and I imagine the engine/ECU sensors aren't too different either so I think I can make it work. Does anyone have any experience with this or know if it will work?
