  1. Having problem with fan. After a good run and stationary for about 15mins temp gauge rises and alarm sounds but not all the time. Had it looked at by 2 garages. 1 couldn't find a fault. Other replaced cooling fan sensor and said could be the fan control unit. This has now been replaced also. It's appears its still not working. Any ideas on what to look at next?
  2. bought a genuine radiator thermal switch for polo 6n1 radiator, part number 867 959 481 i noticed it only had two pins as opposed to the three pin that was originally in. saw a few more on ebay registered for the polo 6n and again noticed two pints on them. is this right?
  3. Since i bought my 6N 1.4 8v the expansion tank has been a pretty uniform shade of pink as if G12 has dried all around it, making it impossible to tell the level. I've never thought much of it as the engine seems to cool pretty well (never really goes over 80/90c even on 300 mile motorway trips) and I can see some coolant when i open the filler cap and look into the tank. What are your thoughts on this? Any way to clean the tank? Am i in trouble? Bought a bottle of G12 for some daft price a few months ago for this purpose but has since slipped my mind. Cheers!

    Turbocharger cooler

I have for a while, I have thought about turbo cooling, and some time a go, I asked another member how they cooled their turbos that have water cooling provision. So what I decided to do is to have it's own pumped circuit through the header tank with a thermostat that opens when the water gets to 70 degrees. The thermostat will open a branch off the turbo cooling circuit into the main radiator with a non return valve. Of course what I don't know is whether the pressure in the turbo cooling circuit will be high enough to overcome the pressure in the car's normal engine cooling system. The non return valve will stop any reverse flow of engine cooling water into the turbo cooling circuit.
  5. Hi,i replaced the thermostat housing today on my 1991 breadvan but then discovered this pipe had a crack in it. Can anyone tell me firstly the name of this part please & who might keep these in stock if available that is. Many thanks kev
  6. Hey guys My derby is becoming a little troublesome of late, its not cooling very well and I've had a number of overheats, i cant find a coolant leak but my bottle always seems to be low, i top it up and try my best to get the air out of the system. for example i just topped her up, tried to get all the air out and just ran her up the road. she cooled well for about five minutes, i then got stuck at a trainline, all was well. i carried on driving then the heating in the cabin went cold and the engine started getting hot. i got the car home opened the bonnet and there was water on the bonnet, all over the bay basically but i cannot tell where it is coming from. any ideas on diagnosing a waterpump failure or anything of the sorts? also I've only been putting just plain water in the engine as its getting expensive buying lots of coolant, could that be the source of my problems? anyone know of any typical mk2 cooling faults? any input at all will be much appreciated. regards
