  1. I've done an engine swap in my MK2 bready, the engine "works" but I can't seem to run without the choke on (or slight acceleration). I'm running with a piersburg solex pic 7 carb on a new rubber flange with no air leaks. Without choke it will try to run then cough and die even when the engine is warm. Any ideas on how to get this to idle smoothly.

  3. Long post, sorry... but a problem i can’t get my head around..! So I am having trouble with the engine running smoothly and driving fine but then after stopping at lights accelleration will be nothing other than a chug at best. First thought of mine and 1st AA man was fuel starvation (it ran out of fuel a week or so before, which is how I found out it reading half a tank actually means empty..! So thought it might be crap come up from the bottom ofthe tank) So change the fuel filter and it runs smoothly again ... for about 10 miles and the same thing happens again at another set of lights. Second AA man swaps the king HT lead around and with a bit of WD40 off it goes again smooth as anything. So get a new set of HT leads and happy motoring for another 10 or so miles when it happens again. This time me and AA man 3 are flummoxed. And that’s where I am now - i still think fuel starvation so a carb clean / tank clean but keen to see if any of you have any ideas.
  4. Hello everyone! I'm having some mysterious issues with my car after the swap. I swapped everything, it has the GTI fuel pump, but still has a rough idle when cold, and poor perfomance even when the engine is at it's operation temp, and it cranks for 3-4, even 5 secs before it starts the engine.It struggles at higher rpms, and has a top speed of 150 km/h instead of 200 km/h. I replaced almost every sensor I could, it's definitely not the lambda sensor, or the crankshadt pos. sensor. Even replaced the coolant temp sensor. I noticed that I have a grey 167 fuel pump relay with 4 legs instead of a black 410 with 8 legs. The guy who made the wiring, didn't notice the different relay. Can this be the cause of my problem? Or could the VVT actuator failure cause this? Thanks for the help!
  5. Hi, I am in the middle of trying to carry out a few repairs to my 94 mk2f coupe. My old fuel tank needed to be replaced due to rust and corrosion and I have encountered a few problems while fitting the new tank. I saw a diagram on here before the same as the one attached but it had a list of what each number means, can somebody please link me to this/post this below? Thanks for your help, Vinny
  6. Anyone have any idea why my 1.1 is not firing. It seems like fuel is not being pulled through as it is pooling in inlet manifold just under the carb. There was suction when I put my hand over the carb. Anyone else had this problem and know the solution.
  7. Hi again. So after chatting on here and trying to solve the problems on starting after refuelling. I’ve got some questions and hope someone can help out!?!! 🙂 So each time I refuel I have problems starting. Sometimes it happens when it’s warm and I’ve turned it off and tried to start again a short time after. Once it does fire up I get a really rich smell with a cloud of light smoke out the back. Someone said it sounds like the pressure regulator. Because I’ve established that the fuel pump is working properly. Any one else had issues like this? Please help. G
  8. Hi my mk2f 1ltr breadvan has a problem . Did not start yesterday so i check battery and it was flat as first i thought i left lights on or radio but i never . So i put in new battery and fired up straight away but i noticed after i switched of ignition off i could still here fuel pump running not sure why so i switched it back on ignition and it stopped. I repeated the on off with ignition and same thing happened fuel pump still running after i turned off the till ignition again . So i assume this is why i had a flat battery as its was still doing its thing after i switch car off and going into the house , hence flat battery next day. Advice please. Many thanks.
  9. Hi everyone, if anyone could help me diagnose my problem that would be amazing! I'm sure its down to something electrical? I have recently got back hold of the car (off road since'15) I had her firing a few times but running naff (always near enough flooding) so since these things I have changed; spark plugs, battery, replaced 1 HT lead (misfire), dizzy cap, oil sensor, blue and black coolant temp sensors, full service (oil, air & fuel) and also added and exhaust system. I have also added a gasket to the throttle body which was missing and fixed the one which sits between this and the carb (thick black one). Only after getting this far with the car today I've managed to see how bad the carbs flooding, if anyone has any ideas what it could be please let me know OR if you get the nail on the head I will PP you a beer token! :) Many thanks video here -
  10. Fitted a new tank, about three months after removing the old one, and losing the scribbled diagrams of where the pipes and connections go. I have a long, long, clear plastic pipe running down from the filler neck area, and can't for the life of me remember where it's supposed to go? Can't see any missing connections. Trying to get the vent pipe on in the falling snow was fun too - pour on boiling water, move the pipe 1mm along, then it gets cold and goes rock solid again...!
  11. Hi All, I've converted my Mk2f to a 6n2 1.6 16v ARC engine, Therefore I have changed the fuel pump to a 3 bar pump. So my question is is there away to do away with the lift pump, make it so the external pump will just suck the fuel threw it or is there no need because it wont restrict the flow? I'm pretty sure I've seen a thread before talking about how to make the lift pump redundant or so the external pump will just pull it threw.. But can't seem to find it.. Cheers for any help in advance..
  12. So.. I openly admit I know next to feck all about wiring.. anything else I’m sound with. Anyways, today I wired my facet fuel pump into relay 24. Question is will it work or is it just plain retarded ? Unfortunately I couldn’t save myself the embarrassment of pure failure as I don’t have a battery to try so here I am. All criticism welcome but if it is mass failure some pointer would be good too. Thanks in advance people

Afternoon all I have just recently purchased a 2007 9n3 GTI after owning a 6n2, the previous owner told me that he had the car remapped but cant remember the name of the garage or what map was put on it, all he said was the only option he had at the time was optimise it for standard fuel or high octane and he choose high octane, the guy suggested that it would bump up the circa to 200bhp after the remap. The issue I am currently having is the vehicle is currently fully standard apart from the remap that I am aware of, however when i drop the car into 4th gear and accelerate it feels as if it also takes a minute to realise i have put the foot down and seem likes it misfires before picking up speed, I have felt it once or twice in 3rd but it is almost everytime in 4th I feel it. Could this be related to the car being remapped or could it be something as simple as plugs? Also wondering what mods most people start off with, I have been told to do miltek exhuast, SFS oversize turbo intake pipe, forge throttle body hose, airtec fmic, forge 007 diverter valve, secondary air intake delete and to delete N valves. Is this the usual mods and if so what order do most people do them in and what are the benefits of these mods? Also any links to buy these mods + guides on doing them? Thanks
  14. I recently bought a 9n 54 plate Polo. We haven't refuelled it yet and the fuel flap doesn't open automatically. Should it open when the car is unlocked? I read that I can manually over ride it from inside the boot by pushing the actuator up with a screw driver but obviously this isn't ideal. Is this common and what's the fix? Not sure if it's related but the passenger door doesn't lock as it should when you lock the drivers side.
  15. Hi can anyone tell me which direction should the arrow on a fuel filter point on 6n2 polo? The old filters arrow is pointing towards the drivers side, someone told me that is wrong! Thanks
  16. Hi I have erratic engine idle on my mk2f 1ltr it settles after about 10 mins then I can drive off. Also its quite slow on acceleration but after a while it picks up seep again. Never had a 1ltr before so not sure this is the norm ? Am I correct in thinking it maybe an problem with air flow vale or fuel pump on way out ? Thank you.
  17. I currently have a petrol polo estate. It would look as if it is leaking fuel. I want to replace the fuel lines but I cannot find anywhere that sells a new kit anymore. This means I will need generic tube. GSF and Euros sell this but I have no idea which diameter I need. does anyone know what tube I would need to replace my feed and take fuel tube. Added a couple pics. Thank you in advance!

  21. Help!!! Hi all, purchased a mk2 1989 Breadvan a few weeks ago as a rolling project for my 2 sons. Great little car in nice condition and it was running like a little sewing machine until this weekend. I filled up at the local garage and 3 miles later the kangarooing started. It idles fine but has a dead spot as you take off in first, has stalled unless you floor the accelerator, and then is very jumpy up through the gears. It runs better at speed in 4th gear but is rough everywhere else. Ive checked the plugs and they look nice and clean, all leads are ok too. I'm thinking crap in the fuel lines, filter and/or pump and maybe blocked jets in the carb. Any advice before I begin to strip things out appreciated. cheers.

HI there Right I've got the fuel pump out of a 16v easy But trying to get the fuel pump out of my 95 1.3 8v single point is different I've unscrewed the black ring took the pipes off the top bit came off bit the rest of the unit is sat in the tank unlike the other one came out in one piece Cheers carl

  24. hi this is my first post on the forum so forgive me for any mistakes, I got my 9n3 1.2 in September and have had a problem where occasionally the engine cranks but does not start. RAC suggested it was a fuel pump relay problem (number 404) so I got this changed. Since then the problem has continued to happen every so often. The usual humming sound when opening the door and turning the ignition does not happen when it doesn't start. a second RAC visit told me that there is also a fuel pump primer relay (number 167) and this may be the problem. I cannot find where this is located does anyone know where it is? its starting to annoy me now as having a car that decides not to start sometimes is a pain. I know where 404 is located (below the steering wheel on the right) but there is no 167 there.

Hey guys wondering if you could help, my bready has been messed with and has at least 3 different fuel pumps (1 Connected, 2 Not) but the connected one is too high pressured when it is on but doesn't allow anything through when it's off, guessing previous owner has fitted this when another broke, long story short was wondering what fuel pumps you had in place so I could just go back to factory?
