  1. Hi all got the dreaded oil leak on front left hand side of engine block oil running down block and onto alternator. Did not expect this as only have 21000 on the clock anyhow what brand is best ? Was looking at elring brand. Advice welcome. Many thanks.
  2. Hi Does anyone know the part number or where to get the o-ring that seals the mechanical cam driven fuel pump. It sits over number 4 plug and is leaking onto it. I ordered one 052127311 and it is too large if indeed the correct one was in the packet. The one sent is the largest at about 45mm OD I am after the smaller one please. Luke

    Problems

    Hi all Ok where do I begin so I bought a 93 Polo coupe about a month ago. About a week ago the head gasket went wasn't willing to give up on the car so had that fixed £600. I had it back for 4 days now. Its started losing power feels like it's shifting down a gear have spoken to the garage where I had the gasket done. Taking it in again just wondered if anyone had some thoughts on it? Just don't want it to become one of these cases where the car fault can't be found and keeps going in and out of garage. Also have found out that a few people I know somehow turned into mechanics overnight and started telling me everything that's wrong with the car i.e. it pulls slightly to the right when braking the brakes feel spongy the cutting out is caused by an electrical fault blah blah. But back to the point.. so any ideas on what the loss of power might be would be welcome. Thanks
  4. Hi everyone, Pleased to be here and this is my first post, so "hi"! I joined today as I bought a 91 Polo Breadvan with some issues. It was very inexpensive (£80 with 6 months MOT) and I fancy trying to do the work myself. I also own a 73 Beetle that is on the road (tucked up in the garage for winter) and also a rolling resto. I wondered if anyone has a step-by-step guide to changing the head gasket on a AAV engine? Or can point me in the right direction for one? (no Haynes manual advice please) Pictures would be really helpful too. Thanks very much in advance and I look forward to getting to know you all. Will
  5. Can someone please confirm the G40 oil sump gasket is the same as the MK2f 1991 polo because I am using a shallow sump from the MK2 on the 6N which fits. I have seen baffle plates available for the G40 1.3 1986 - 1994 where the fitting looks identical to the sump I am using now for the 6N. Please see picture.
  6. I'm getting oil under the car from the sump gasket while running. I've cleaned the block and it seems to be coming from the gasket for sure, can I whack some sealant round the leaky bits or should I bite the bullet and replace the gasket (will it pass MOT without)? Is it a job I can do with a torque wrench by just undoing the bolts or does the driveshaft/exhaust need removing too? I've got the 1043cc 1989 bready. Cheers for any advice

  8. Hi all, I need some help! I've got a 6n2 GTI that needs an top end rebuild as the engine was tapping. I thought it may be a sticky hydraulic tappet, so I shoved some engine flush through as a kill or cure solution. Typically, as my luck would have it... I killed it! The valve stem oil seals are shot and the tapping has stayed. So I need to have a bit of a rebuild. The last engine that I rebuilt was an aircooled Beetle engine, so I need a bit of advice on what parts I should buy in readiness for the engine removal, strip down, rebuild and re-installation. I'm thinking I need: Valve stem oil seals x 16 Head gasket Exhaust gasket 'Instant' gasket for rocker cover and sump Cambelt kit... might as well while it's in bits! I was hoping to find some miracle kit on GSF or similar like I used to buy for my aircooled engines, but it's not that simple! Can I ask for your help to make sure I get all I need? Any suggestions welcome. Cheers Andy
  9. I have a VW Polo 1.4 16v EHD, initially it had an issue with the water pump,leaking. I replaced it. After that, i drove it for 1 week then one day I stopped then when I tried to drive it wasn't moving despite me accelerating. I switched it off and on and it moved. The next morning, I ignited it but when I tried to accelerate it wasn't moving...Drive or Reverse. It moves slowly just when press the pedal so much it nearly touches the floor. Kindly assist.
