  1. Hi all, I can't find out how to install this febi gear selector lever repair kit. It has the ball joint, cup, top plate and bolts from the bottom of the gear lever. I can't get the old one off, because the plastic section that sits above it is in the way and cant go anywhere. Any help possible? Cheers!
  2. Anyone know how to set up the bolts on the coupling of a 4 speed MK2 gearbox, I can't seem to get the bolts tight and still be able to select all the gears. I don't understand the Haynes instructions to be honest. With the screw (right hand in pic) not fully tightened I can engage 3 & 4, but 1 & 2 are only available by pressing in the stick as if for reverse. Reverse cannot be achieved. Any advice from someone who's done this before would be much appreciated.

    Hi, I want to change my gear knob, most of the ones im looking at are screw on but the current one uses a clip i think? Any way to make a screw on shifter work? Many Thanks, Jack
  4. Hi all. Hope you may be able to help me out. I have owned my breadvan for just over a month. Not had any major issues until today. I only use my polo to get to work at the moment and its about a 15 min drive from home. However today I took it up the motorway for the first time after about an hour and a half of driving i came off the motorway and I physically couldn't get into gear. I had to pull over to the side of the road, stop, then I was able to get it into first and drive off. This happened another few times before I managed to get to where I was going. From what I've read on here/elsewhere it seems I may be looking at a new clutch :( I've had a look for replacement kits but I'm struggling to find a match. I drive a Mk2 polo. 1.3 CL 1990 and my reg is H102 MUH. Hope you can help. Josh
  5. I have a 1997 MK3 GTI. Initially no gear trouble but over the course of a few weeks, selecting reverse became increasingly difficult until now I can no longer select reverse and first gear is now where reverse used to be (press down and to the left and up) I am thinking it is the gear selector and not the actual gearbox? but not sure. I know this is vague but let me know if anyone else has had similar issues or knows anything at all about this problem -Liam Ps (The car was sitting for about 2 years before I got it running and the problem arose. Car is not currently being driven on the road)
  6. Hi there Pretty sure the gear linkage has just failed on my girlfriend's 6n 1.4 CL. It had been sticky previously and there have been times where selecting 2nd and 4th were impossible, but on my way home it failed completely and the gearbox is now stuck in first gear (can't even take it out of gear from inside the car). I'm looking to replace the linkage setup asap as it's our daily, but am struggling to find one for this model. Are there any linkage/cable setups from other models that would fit ours, ie 6n2 or 6n 1.2? I'm asking as I have a spare Mk3 Golf GTI (ABF) setup here, but am not sure if it's suitable? I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to gear stuff, so any advice or help would be very much appreciated! Thanks :)
  7. Hi Guys, Last night, all of a sudden my gear change got very sloppy, I will try to explain it for you all. If the car is in gear, i can free'ly move the lever back and forth around 3-4 inches, it does not move sideways. When I looked under the gaitor, I notice a large white plastic mould where the stick is attached, this is on a slider so I presume it is meant to move. Is anyone able to help? thanks :)
  8. Hello guys, just joined this site to see if i can get som help on a problem i just stumbled upon. I realised during my vacation that i only had one gear on my Polo whatever the position of my stick shift was in. I think it was fifth or third gear... however, when i got home I jacked the car up to see how well the linkage worked during gearchanges and it was a mess... there was some sort of plastic thing called Gaterod (Selector/Gear Lever, Partnumber 6N0 711 575A) which is just poped into place on 2 ballheads in the linkage, it had poped out from one connections and as you tried to pop it back on it felt kinda weak or like it didn't want to stay attached to the lower ball head, but the thing that was scaring me even more was that one of the selector cables were totally ruined, so it needs to be fixed in one way or another. some information about the car: Volkswagen Polo 6N -98 1,6 engine called "AEE" Gearbox 085 (DKE?) (dual-cable operated) so... to my question. As you can see the linkage cable connector to the gearbox mechanics is totaled (looks like it could have been some sort of bushing there a while ago) and I want to know if there's some sort or replacement bushing for these type of cables or if you really have to buy a brand new cable and replace it with the old. I've been searching the web without any success so i've been thinking a little bit and came up with an idea of creating something myself that would fit inside the cable connector, like a piece of aluminium or stainless steel to also make it more like a shortshift feeling. What do you think guys? I'm scepteical to just buy a new cable with rubber bushing, mostly because the cable is still intact and it's just this "bush" that is ruined.
  9. Hi there, I was wondering if anyone would mind helping me out here.. I just put an 8P gearbox on my MK2 89. I was reconnecting the speedometer cable and fiddling with the plastic drive gear that sits in the top of the box. To my great surprise as I was fiddling the bloody thing disappeared into the gearbox . I never knew it could dissapear, I always assumed it must be supported by something. Anyhow this means I have a problem to solve. Are these things available? what are they called? Have I buggered my gearbox? and many other wonderful questions ha. any advice would be appreciated.

I've got a 6N2 2000 1.0L My 'gate' keeps coming out of where the gear stick is which holds down the leather on the gear stick, meaning the leather with slide out of the gate and leave the top of the gear box area open which is super annoying! Does anyone know where I could buy one of these and would I need to replace the leather and gearstick? Cheers
