I’m fitting aftermarket LED DRL strips and need to clarify which wires on the front headlight clusters go to which light. I’m after the ground, side light, and indicator. I’ve run a multimeter over it and I’m assuming brown is ground, black/green is indicator etc but If someone can list them by wire colour/PIN number that would be great. Cheers.

Jericho704 posted a topic in ICE, Electrical and Lighting
Hey! I have a 6th gen (Mark10) Polo, and I cant seem to find, anywhere online, to what the main headlight bulbs are. Anyone know what type of bulb the non LED version of the car has? All help is appreciated. Jericho- 4 replies

Evening all, I own a 9N 2002 Polo, recently swapped out the headlight bulbs for Osram Nightbreaker bulbs. Managed to get all bulbs out without dropping the bumper which was a result, but when it came to putting back the H1 high beam the wires for that on the near side and sidelight bulb tangled up like mad and the clip fell off. Figured in the time it will take to mess about sorting it, it will be quicker to drop the bumper and remove the headlight unit. I was right, it was relatively easy and wish I’d done it from the start as it was a real faff but pretty easy to remove the bumper. Anyway, in doing so I knocked the headlight adjuster motor from it’s housing (probably when I was actually trying to remove the bulbs) and as such when refitted with new bulbs, one was looking at you and one looking for you. I hadn’t realised the motor was loose so just adjusted the vertical adjuster to as high as I could and thought it was getting pretty tight so stopped. Cue my dad coming round to have a look to see if he could help (despite them being pretty level he felt they should both be higher), and promptly tightened the vertical adjuster too much and it now just spins and spins. Had the light back off, and can see the plastic spindle which comes from the adjuster is still touching the part which actually moves the unit, and is turning (the bit directly from the adjuster you turn with a screw) but NOT the part it touches which then moves the bulbs. That’s just staying where it is. There’s no rattling so nothing has snapped and is inside the unit, I’ve a feeling there’s something inside the plastic bit which comes from adjuster to the part which will actually move the aim, and is broken internally. Anyway we discovered the real reason for the aim being too low and not adjusting any higher was because the motor was loose, but have bodged the light to aim correctly with a couple of paper clips to hold it in place. Ordered a new headlight unit which I will fit this weekend. But I just wondered if anyone has had this before, and had any success in taking the headlight apart and fixing this issue? If if not then I will have a crack at it, nothing ventured nothing gained, as I already have a new unit but would like to repair this if possible. Any help gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance.
