  1. Hey! I have a 6th gen (Mark10) Polo, and I cant seem to find, anywhere online, to what the main headlight bulbs are. Anyone know what type of bulb the non LED version of the car has? All help is appreciated. Jericho
  2. Evening all, I own a 9N 2002 Polo, recently swapped out the headlight bulbs for Osram Nightbreaker bulbs. Managed to get all bulbs out without dropping the bumper which was a result, but when it came to putting back the H1 high beam the wires for that on the near side and sidelight bulb tangled up like mad and the clip fell off. Figured in the time it will take to mess about sorting it, it will be quicker to drop the bumper and remove the headlight unit. I was right, it was relatively easy and wish I’d done it from the start as it was a real faff but pretty easy to remove the bumper. Anyway, in doing so I knocked the headlight adjuster motor from it’s housing (probably when I was actually trying to remove the bulbs) and as such when refitted with new bulbs, one was looking at you and one looking for you. I hadn’t realised the motor was loose so just adjusted the vertical adjuster to as high as I could and thought it was getting pretty tight so stopped. Cue my dad coming round to have a look to see if he could help (despite them being pretty level he felt they should both be higher), and promptly tightened the vertical adjuster too much and it now just spins and spins. Had the light back off, and can see the plastic spindle which comes from the adjuster is still touching the part which actually moves the unit, and is turning (the bit directly from the adjuster you turn with a screw) but NOT the part it touches which then moves the bulbs. That’s just staying where it is. There’s no rattling so nothing has snapped and is inside the unit, I’ve a feeling there’s something inside the plastic bit which comes from adjuster to the part which will actually move the aim, and is broken internally. Anyway we discovered the real reason for the aim being too low and not adjusting any higher was because the motor was loose, but have bodged the light to aim correctly with a couple of paper clips to hold it in place. Ordered a new headlight unit which I will fit this weekend. But I just wondered if anyone has had this before, and had any success in taking the headlight apart and fixing this issue? If if not then I will have a crack at it, nothing ventured nothing gained, as I already have a new unit but would like to repair this if possible. Any help gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance. Alex

  5. Hi guys, Hoping to get membership soon and get my photos up of my 9N journey so far but in the meantime... I'm installing lights under my dash and want them to come on with the sidelights.. I have everything researched and ready to go but I am really struggling with connecting the final wire! These are the wires I have tried connecting to: Instrument Illumination Either Sidelight Headlight Switch Light The problem I have is that I've been cutting wires according to the Haynes manual and they haven't been the right ones so I've had to reattach them to where they previously were. Can anybody help me? Thanks, Rory!

  7. Hi guys, I recently noticed that one of my headlights (on my Polo 6r) was brighter than the other (the bulbs I use are Phillips H4 BlueVision Ultras), I assumed it was the bulb and so I replaced both headlight bulbs, however I still have the same problem, even with the new bulbs. What could be wrong, has anyone had any experience with this sort of issue? Cheers, Matt
  8. hello fellow VW owners, I am looking for some advice on how to remove the headlight unit from my 9n3 as i'm looking to install the FK daylight headlight unit soon. (Haven't purchased it yet). As I have never done this before I don't want to make a mess of things and am in need of some good advice . thanks! Mtmax
  9. Hi, I recently bought some amber LED indicator bulbs to replace the standard orange bulbs in the front and rear light assemblies. However, I've tested one in the front and it's not lighting up at all. I'm assuming that this is because the positive and negative terminals are wired the wrong way round (tested the LED with a 9V battery - the positive terminal is the 'pin' at the bottom of the bulb and the negative terminal is the case around the outside (with the offset bayonet style pins) but I'm not absolutely sure. Does anyone know the pin layout for the front headlight connector (black oval-shaped 10-pin) ? I've looked all over the forums / internet, but I can only find the rear light connector pin out. Also, looking at the wiring info available for the rear clusters, it seems impossible for the rear lights to be wired the opposite way round as there's only one ground connector for the whole unit. As such, I think I might need to split the LED bulbs open and solder the connectors the opposite way round, but I'd like to avoid doing this if it's at all possible. Anyone tried fitting LED bulbs / solved this kind of problem?
  10. Just managed to get my headlights cleaned up as much as they will, I'm now looking for bulb upgrades so I can actually see the road! Here are the links I have found on eBay for dipped beam, main beam and sidelight. I'm quite retarded so could someone confirm these are the correct bulbs and if they are direct replacements for the standard bulbs? I don't want the hassle and cost of HID's, self levelling and all that. I want cheap and to see whats in front of me. Dipped Beam http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261060761880?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 Main Beam http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270871544192?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 Sidelight http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360731528810?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 Also, what are the chances of these burning out electrics or any other damage from upgrading without messing about upgrading wiring? Thanks in advance
