  1. Hi Everyone! Hope someone on here can help.... I've had this high pitch humming/whistling noise coming from my engine. It happens when I accelerate at a certain point usually heard in the first 3 gears. (noise still is heard when pressing the clutch in) it is also heavily noticeable after switching off the engine as seen in the video. I hope someone knows the issue, sometimes it's barely noticeable, sometimes louder and sometimes does happen at all, so I'm at a loose end with this one! Please see the following video of the noise : (Video has a few different clips, might need to turn the volume up to hear the noise, hard job to do when driving!) www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjG7Nr33Ymc Car: VW Polo '06 1.2 Litre Cheers, Luke
  2. Hey all . And anyone who can help . I have my Bby engine 1.4 16v Auto. She doesn't pull too well and I'm looking to try and get more out of her. So far I've rebuilt everything stock. Other than some tacky arch extensions and stickers I've done nothing to modify. Rather just rebuild. My question is what can be done to the BBY engine . Could I get more power out of this engine ? Or should I be looking into swapping for another engine if so would I have any luck with a golf gti engine and box. I know its probably a done and dusted subject and probably boring . But other than finding engine swaps I can't find anything about performance parts or upgrades . Any advice would be great because she's a bit like driving a wind up toy most days
  3. Hi there, Running a polo 6n2 1.0 Y reg with only 60k miles. Recently noticed a whining noise in 5th and a bit of movement when going on and coming off the throttle. Pal advised me to change oil but haven't got round to it. However last night something went as I was on the motorway in 5th. Car still goes into every gear and drives fine but in 5th there is a crunching/grinding noise when driving. Excuse my lack of basic knowledge but can anyone tell me what might be wrong and what might need fixed? Cheers
  4. Hi all so I need to remove the dash in my polo. It has what appear to be radio key holes on either side. I’ve inserted the keys but can’t get the damned thing to budge. Are there some additional screws? Many thanks rich

  7. Hi, I am in the middle of trying to carry out a few repairs to my 94 mk2f coupe. My old fuel tank needed to be replaced due to rust and corrosion and I have encountered a few problems while fitting the new tank. I saw a diagram on here before the same as the one attached but it had a list of what each number means, can somebody please link me to this/post this below? Thanks for your help, Vinny

    What does this do?

A few months ago my MK2 Polo, 1.3i, came to a stuttering halt. I was on the motorway and started to lose power, when I pulled off the motorway it gave up and stopped. My first thoughts were fuel problems, I had a quarter of a tank, so running out of fuel wasn't the problem. Maybe dirt in the tank or blocked fuel lines. Anyway, I called the breakdown service and the guy had a look around the engine and pushed a part back into place, something to do with a vacuum. Am shit with engines! The engine started first time after he did that. Last weekend I did a hours drive into Belgium and then back home again later, the car didn't feel right, a slight bit of stuttering again, but I got home without breaking down. The next day I have a look and go straight to the part that was the problem before. The hose it is connected to had fallen apart. I went to the garage today and he fitted a new hose, but said the engine shouldn't stop working if that part was not connected. Here is the part am talking about. What is it and who is right? The garage or break down service (ANWB, Dutch AA). If that isn't what's causing the stuttering, then what is? Thanks, Andy
  9. Finally got my timing marks perfect and got to the point of setting the z with the strobe.so I did so by removing blue temp sender holding revs at 2000 and moved to z ‘mark.took car out for a drive ran nicely but zero boost.came back this time didn’t hold the Revs at 2000 just moved the mark to z and car now has nice boost but the mark is now not at z.what is going on?i only decided to try it without holding the revs as I did read some g40s don’t need the Rebs holding to set the mark.can anyone shed some light on this please I’m so nearly there

    VW Polo 6n?

So i recently got a VW polo 6n 1.2 3 cylinder. It come with 2 keys and both have a button in the middle of them, but they don't do anything? Anyone know what they are for? As I've tried using them for the central locking but nothing works. I also changed the batterys in them both and still nothing?
  12. Hi all i have a y plate 6n2 polo 1.4 8v Had it for a number of years and well looked after. i was out on work visits when I got back in the car to go home and it wouldn’t start. It wasn’t getting close to starting. RAC came out and jump started it and all was well. Initially he diagnosed that the battery was in poor condition, it’s a Bosch battery that I put on at Christmas time when we had the cold spell. It’s not given a hint of any problem. We turned car off and got back in to start and nothing, jumped it again and then get diagnosis of alternator not charging. Drove home 12 miles park car up and then turn engine off, go to re start and nothing. i spoke to my car garage today who said likely to be alternator but you should have had battery light flashing on dash, i didn’t get that. the garage recommned that I jump it and leave running and then rev it and remove earth lead from battery if it keeps running it battery if it stops then it’s the alternator. what are people’s thoughts on the issue and where is the earth lead, my battery is one with a terminal on top with several wires going the earth lead the back cable with 10amp? thanks
  13. Right, so I'm mid way through my Mk2 breadys engine conversion, it is my first engine conversion so its took some figuring out so far, but I'm nearly ready for engine in except for a couple of little bumps in the road. So to start off with I've got APQ 1.4 8v apq engine and DOW 5 speed box to go with it, and I'm swapping it for my old 1litre 4speed, so far everything fits or transfers across seen as the engines are nearly identical, I'm ditching the injection system and running it with the original 1 litre head and a 1300 golf carb, everything fits nicely and that bits all sorted, the problems are, 1. Main coolant pipe from the water pump and 2. Top gearbox mount and driveshafts 1. The original coolant pipe doesn't fit, so I have to get the 1.4 pipe, but from looking into it, the old pipe has three ports on it, 2 of which go straight to the carb to control the choke I believe, and the other heads straight to the header tank, whilst the 1.4 pipe only has one port, that goes to the heater system, so how can I get around the pipes to the carb, a friend of mine has suggested that I get the new pipe and run the carb on Manuel choke, but that obviously means doing some modification to the carb, but I dont really know where to start on that haha 2. Top gearbox mount is rather different, the original has 3 studs on top to bolt the mount onto, where as the 6n mount for the gearbox mounts onto the car in a completely different place, and also, will the drive shafts be long enough and actually fit, I'm Sure someone who's done a 5 speed conversion can help with this. any help given will be much appreciated

    Seeking my old Mk2f

Hi guys and girls I'm hoping someone can help me. I sold my Mk2f polo back in late 2016/ early 2017. It was FOX coupe in blue that was originally 1.0 but I converted it to a 1.3 GT engine with some mods, Piper Cam, Bigger intake and a few other mods. I'm sure the guy who bought it off me was from eBay by the name of George. I'd love to have that car back as it was one of the nicest I have driven. If anyone has any information or can point me in the right direction I would be very greatful, Maybe even some pint money! If you could ask around any groups or friends that break polo's etc The REG is L468 SYJ and it is not taxed, MOT'ed or Insured Thanks again
  16. Hi there, New to this forum, looking for a little help. I just got a 91' Polo GT and the seats are worse for wear, wanted to change them out maybe put some leathers. Ive read on loads of forums that corrado seats will fit in the front, easy swap. Ive also read that mk4 golf seats can swap into a corrado, easy swap. Does that mean I can slap mk4 golf leather seats in my 86 polo? (I understand that it will sit higher than normal) Please advise
  17. Hi, apologies if this is the wrong section of the forum (im new to posting here, long time lurker) i have a polo 9n 1.2 3 cylinder, i have heard that it is possible to swap the throttle bodies from that of a mk4 golf, is there a specific engine size from the golf that i need to get it from or will they all fit, i dont know if the golfs use a universal size or they change with engine size which i assume, any help will be appreciated. also i have had trouble of finding exhaust systems that will fit the car, i have a quote of 150 to get a custom backbox made by hand, however is there any full catback systems that you guys use on your polo's many thanks,
  18. Hi everyone, if anyone could help me diagnose my problem that would be amazing! I'm sure its down to something electrical? I have recently got back hold of the car (off road since'15) I had her firing a few times but running naff (always near enough flooding) so since these things I have changed; spark plugs, battery, replaced 1 HT lead (misfire), dizzy cap, oil sensor, blue and black coolant temp sensors, full service (oil, air & fuel) and also added and exhaust system. I have also added a gasket to the throttle body which was missing and fixed the one which sits between this and the carb (thick black one). Only after getting this far with the car today I've managed to see how bad the carbs flooding, if anyone has any ideas what it could be please let me know OR if you get the nail on the head I will PP you a beer token! :) Many thanks video here -
  19. Hi, I recently changed my oil pressure switch originally it was flashing with the ignition on (car wouldn’t start at this point), so now with the new switch - no flashing on ignition. However now it runs to some extent the oil light is flashing when the engines running, I did just change the oil filter today so was wondering if this could be something to do with it or how could I stop it? Cheap sensor? Thanks!
  20. Hello, I have recently purchased some Pioneer TS-G1731i Speakers (Ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Polo-2010-Pioneer-6-5-17cm-Dual-Cone-Coaxial-Speakers-460W-Door-Speakers-/331810660315?hash=item4d4174dfdb) to install in the front of my MK9 Polo. The speakers arrived today with the mounting bracket, 8 screws, 8 screw brackets and of course the 2 speakers with grills. However, I am unsure how to mount them (as I am no audio expert). Could anybody please advise me how I mount the speakers using 4 screws each. Photos of the bracket and speaker below; Thank you

  23. hey polo peeps!! I've fitted 6n2 GTI hubs onto my 6n2 1.4 8v and now the wheels are toed in massively ! the hole for the track rod end to go into is 10mm closer to the steering rack than the 1.4 hubs and I've now been 2 weeks without my only car trying to figure it out. so far the only solution myself and the mechanic at the garage doing it while I'm at work have is to put threads further up the track rod and chop the ends off to make it fit but surely there's something were missing ? some part that needs changing???? I'm at a loss and I want my car back from what shouldve been a 20 minute job ? anybhelo appreciated- we've checked ball joints, track rod ends, checking wishbones soon but everything seems to be the same !!!
