Hi all, I have an old VW Polo 1.4 TDI (2001) that's been sitting unused for over 3 years now (I know.. life just got a bit crazy). The reason I didn't sell it the moment I got a new car is : - There was an intermittent starting issue which I spent a fair bit of money getting looked at but it never got fixed. Eventually the MOT guy said it's probably the fuel pump relay as he's seen it before with these cars. There was an intermittent indicator stalk issue where smoke would come out of it! Again, it was looked at but never fixed.. I couldn't sell it in good conscience like that. What if it caught on fire and someone got hurt! I'd still feel guilty even if I explained the problem on sale. Annoyingly I did prep it for sale just before I left it to rot: I put on a new tyre, and a new exhaust, and cleaned it up. Now it has the usual problems associated with being left.. It's gone a little bit mouldy here and there inside, moss on the windows, and the brakes look a bit rusty. I have a few choices from what I can tell : - 1) There's a guy that keeps knocking at my door from "MC Motors", who has offered me £100 for it. He just wants to cut it up and scrap it. 2) Replace the battery, get the engine going and advertise it for sale with the problems listed. 3) Replace the battery, get the engine going, pump the tyres up and try and get the 2 issues fixed, then put it up for sale. 4) Just try and sell as it, either on eBay or the classifieds here. I really am not sure what to do. A part of me wants to just take the £100 and be done with it, but I know the engine works and it might make a nice little run about for someone, and I could perhaps earn a bit more from it... Though I might be deluded The frustrating thing is I know with a bit of TLC it could be a nice car - the body work is fine, and it never really had any other problems while it was in regular use. I did try and jump start it recently off of my car, but it wouldn't turn over! I was told it is probably because the VW's battery is knackered and sapping the power, also my new car is petrol and I think the battery doesn't have as much kick as a battery for a diesel..? Any help would be much appreciated. I'm in Leicester if anyone wants to take a look.
I have now been searching for weeks trying to find some replacement big end bearings for my 1.3 MH engine, i went to a VW dealer and was told they couldnt get them anymore. Number stamped on bearing - 030105701 Number VW dealer told me i needed -030105701A i cannot find either of these bearings anywhere. i keep finding 030105701G.... does anyone know if this is a supercision/new part number for the 030105701 number? 030105701G is used in 1.3 engines from golfs ect but the MH engine is not listed. any help would be greatly appreciated also any alternative aftermarket bearings that people know of slightly getting agitated as this seems to be a one off engine that none know anything about and no parts are available :( shes just sitting there waiting to be built thanks. ollie
Starting a thread to show the work I'm doing (and have done) to my polo. It's my first car and major changes probably won't be made in the first year thanks to ridiculous insurance I've already done a bit of work to it aesthetically but mechanically it's pretty solid which is always good news I'm trying to do most of the work myself but a friend who happens to be a mechanic is helping me out with a couple of bits. The body work isn't perfect and there are a few scratches and dents here and there but these will be removed in due time (have a drivers side front wing that needs sanding and painting so far and have pulled a couple out elsewhere). Here's a few pictures from when i bought it:
So I'v been snooping around on here for a while, and been making plans for my polo for around the same time (coincidence? :P). Finally decided that maybe starting a build thread would get me motivated! The car: 54 plate 9n twist edition in anthracite grey (according to the stealer anyway) 1.2 engine, all original and standard throughout when bought, no modifications in last 3 years but now I'm in the world of work that's changing! However some work needs doing first, shes done 60k hard miles since I got her, shes an old lady now, needs some TLC Replace O/S/F wing due to rust Touch up paint chips on bonnet Re-furbish alloys Paintwork refreshed/detailed Planned mods: LED footwell lights New head unit Sony WX-GT90BT fitted Re-paint/wrap console + trim Colour code bumpers Roof spoiler Wind deflectors Remote locking (possible remote start)
