  1. Last night's drive was the last straw - this has gone beyond mere annoyance and veered into dangerously distracting territory. The nearside hinge pin on my bonnet (https://volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/polo+derby+vento-ind/po/1993-120/8/823-64000/#5) has become loose and rattles like mad, making a right din in the cabin. Its definitely this and not the dash/cabin fittings - you can reproduce the noise pushing that corner of the bonnet down. Irritatingly the bonnet puts it under tension when open so you can't actually feel the movement with your hand or get to it from the scuttle area - its only when the bonnet is closed (and thus inaccessible) that the tension drops and it rattles around. I found the odd thread that found this issue but as usual all of them are yonks old and have no resolution posted. Anyone have an idea how I could tackle this? The bluff end of the pin is, i assume, simply captive by the bodywork behind the wing. If i could get to the other end of it i could conceivably detach the retainer at the scuttle end and install a fabric washer or something to take up the slack or wrap it in PTFE tape or something to quieten it down. Problem as usual is access - maybe a case of just removing the arch liner to get up inside the wing cavity?
  2. Hi, I have a Polo 6R 2013 with 1.2 TSI 105HP (CBZ) engine. I have a weird knocking/ticking noise especially on cold starts. It started around 2016... about 2-3 years after getting the car. You can hear it here between 0:03-0:04: Sometimes it lasts for around 1-2 seconds but not more than that. Anyone knows what it is? Thanks.
  3. This drives me crazy (no pun intended). The car drives majestically for a 22 year old car and the 1.4 engine is flawless to some degree but aside from my leaking suspension which I fixed, my car rattles or clicks should I say whenever I drive it for an hour or two. The noise comes on small bumps and can be heard only from the inside. You could also hear it whenever you give it more gas and lift the clutch faster (when the engine tries to pull you away), maybe like a hammer hitting an anvil very weakly (metal to metal). It makes me feel like I have an axle which is loose and is inside a tube (cylinder) and hitting its walls. Kind of like putting a pencil in a paper tube and it sits loose in it and the pencil hits against the walls of the tubing when you shake it around. I'm worried since the suspension is new and is quite sturdy (difference is noticable) But there is still that ever so slight noise. Biggest problem is that nobody seems to hear it except me and I can't prove it unless I make the person drive and feel the extra noise on the speed bumps which is non-existent in the morning. I have doubts it might be connected to the transmission being loose or the engine being loose. Either way, thank you for sparing time to read this!

    Rattle from engine cold start

Hi I have a polo 6R 2013 1.4 (CGGB) I have been hearing a rattling noise for a few months now. The noise seems to happen only when the engine is cold but goes away when the engine warms up. I have changed the oil and flushed the engine before putting new oil in. This hasn't fixed the issue. When I drive the car the rattle is a lot more louder but goes away when warm. I have had the exhaust inspected and it's fine. The noise seems to be coming from the top of the engine. I don't know whether it's the tappets or even the piston. I help advice please Thanks Adil
