  1. Hello all i'm hoping someone can offer me some guidance. The release bearing / guide sleeve went on my polo 1.4 16v 75hp aua engine . Had the garage repair it with my parts which was a borg and beck 3pc clutch and generic guide sleeve. After 60 miles it failed again. Seeing how it could have been my cheap arse i got a genuine vag guide sleeve and an luk bearing which is what the garage said all i needed and recommended a cable as it was ropey (which to be fair i knew it was) now. After 500 miles its failed AGAIN. I also had AA confirm the release bearing had gone before getting shamefully towed home a 3rd time. Also just a bit more detail in those 500 miles the clutch was juddery as hell when engaging, but this is the first time ive had a new clutch so wasnt sure if this was bedding in or something not right. My question is, is there something else thst is causing the guide/bearing to fail or am i able to point fingers at the garage for mucking it up. Thanks all
  2. Hello all, The car: 6N2 1.4, 8 valve petrol. I got my clutch replaced around 3000 miles ago. And over the last few weeks my clutch sounds like this when cold (see example video - you'll need to download). http://www.cosaw.f2s.com/NotBackedUp/clutch.AVI The one they took out (replaced by the same company) had only done 40 to 50,000 miles so I was suspicious that they should be replacing more than just the clutch kit and guide sleeve on this new job. I could hear ticking noises which got a lot worse when pedal pressed - I assumed it was the release bearing and took it in when it sounded like it was ready to pack up. The pictures following are from the 40 to 50,000 mile clutch they pulled out and was wondering if this was a normal failure mechanism - the release spring fingers being eaten up. As far as I can tell the bearing itself seems ok but not sure if it should be able to be pulled into three pieces. The guide sleeve is worn and was replaced. The friction surface looks fine (to me) and the clutch was not slipping. What do you guys think? I know something's failing in this new 3,000 mile clutch and I suspect it's something they didn't replace which is what also killed the 40-50,000 mile clutch in the above photos. Not sure I understand how the release bearing and sleeve fit together. But if you look at picture 8, the guide sleeve doesn't even touch the release bearing (there's got to be 4 to 5mm all round). Looks like the sleeve is merely there to catch the failing release bearing and stop collateral damage??
  3. Car: Polo 6n2, 8 valve, 1.4, Manual Hello all, Could do with some advice. So at first I thought my pedal box was failing again - as all symptoms felt the same but can't see any cracks on the pedal box or major flexing. However this time release bearing definitely sounds under stress when pedal fully to the floor. Just got home tonight and on the drive sounds like the release bearing is about to go - pretty sure it's the release bearing but not 100%. So new clutch I guess - after only around 45 thousand miles. Question is - what else to replace while in their. I'm thinking Pilot Bearing? And how much one costs? Anything else? Many thanks as usual, Simon
