  1. Hi My automatic 1.4 6N Polo started to idle unevenly. It's what I would call hunting. When you rev it, it's fine above about 1200 revs. The problem has got worse in that it wont idle at times, mainly from cold. But even when fully warmed up, it's almost cutting out when you pull up. I've not had a look yet but I'm thinking a possible split in a vac pipe or a broken wire somewhere ? What other bits should I be looking for or test and how ? What would I have to do to check the throttle body ? and is there anything that could be wrong with the throttle body that would cause the symptoms ? Could it be something like a fuel filter ? Any advice would be much appreciated.
  2. I've had a good look through previous posts and FAQs to see if anyone else described the same thing I've got but to no avail - apologies if this question is being re-asked! Since i've owned this Mk2f I've noticed a knocking / clunking / stall-like vibration when setting off from a standstill. This usually happened when the car was cold and running rich - just took some extra revs and a longer clutch release and it'd be fine. I just assumed it was a stalling noise as it would always go away once the engine was up to temp and got its oompf back. However today it manifest itself throughout a long drive and so I'm starting to wonder if it isn't something failing slowly. Any advice what to look for would be much appreciated! The noise almost sounds like its on the left hand side of the bay and judging by the conditions needed to make the noise I'm assuming its to do with the clutch. There isn't any noise when changing from 2nd to 3rd or when changing from 1st to second when in a slow roll (like in traffic) - I.e. the noise only happens when the engine speed is high and the drive speed is very low or zero (when the clutch is under the heaviest load?). Its a '93 Mk2f so has an un-adjustable clutch cable. Should I be looking through the inspection plate to check the friction surface thickness first? Has anyone else had this awful clonking before? Thanks for the help!
  3. Ok, Never had this before. Just changed the coolant on my '96 1.4 polo. Now as much as it will start, if i put my foot heavy and quickly on the throttle, it goes to cut out, and is a bitch to start again. Before I did the change, if i pressed the throttle like that, it would just give a quick whistle and rev up as normal. I really like this car, but am getting very disillusioned by the issues I am having at the moment. Trouble to start in the morning and not knowing if fuel pump or what. The relays and trying to find out what they all do because they do not resemble anything I have found anywhere online (numbers are all different and in different places, although not sure if that makes any real difference) and now this after doing a simple coolant change
  4. hello everyone, i am new to the forum and this is my first post, so if i drop this in the wrong place please forgive me, i have been reading the forum for long time every now and them when a small problem occur on my 2001 1.4mpi 6n2 polo, recently i've been experiencing some scarry symptoms with the car: - first of them is the car is loosing power so agresively, is like a massive missfire(no engine light on) it seems like someone throw an anchor for a second or two and is back to normal after - second one is that the car is stalling while i am driving it, it feels like fuel is cut off, everything electric is on, just engine is stalling, and it is a smooth stop no jerking, engine is starting fine after, again no engine light on, somethime at higher speed i manage to start it without stoping, there is no pattern to it like low rpm or idle, i had it stalling at 60mph, it died on me at the traffic light when idling, when changing gears and so on - third one which i noticed after i changed the fuel filter and the air filter is that when the car "missfires" if i manage to press the clutch and acelerate at the same time to increase rpm the engine seems like is dying /straining but comes back to normal without stalling car is staring and idling normal no problem with that, no funny noise, i changed the fuel pump relay and checked the fuel pump fuse, pump is making the normal noise at start now i was thinking next step to change the fuel pump in the hope that it might be the culprit, i managed to get to the top of the fuel pump without removing it and i found something strange, i have the normal black and blue pipes and power suply conector and in addition i have two pipes crosing the fuel pump without conecting to the pump they just cross ontop of it from the passenger side to driver or the other way round however you want to look at it, the two pipes one is white ribbed like texture while the other one is black what do you guys might think whould create these symptoms? and is it a good ideea to change the fuel pump? at the moment i am trying to fix the issue eliminating what i think it might be the cause one by one, starting with thea easiest/cheapest, the fuel filter, which didnt do much, to fix the problem, and what do you think those two pipes are the black and white? once again there is no codes picked up on my basic code reader and no engine management on when symptoms happen thank you very much and i am waiting for your sugestions/advice
  5. Hey, Posts have already been made about this problem but I'm really desperate. My Polo (53 plate) keeps stalling and cutting out when the clutch is pushed down (released). It struggles to start in the morning too. The idle RpM seems to be really low around 700. I have replaced the throttle body, cleaned it and the intake below the TB. I have replaced the coolant temperature sensor, and disconnected the battery for 16hours to try and reset the ECU. NON OF THIS HAS WORKED (not even helped!) Can anyone please help?? I've got no ideas left :( I've uploaded a video to of it cutting out:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyhd9LBAPgU Idel photo: http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g393/LukeTabasco/20150130_185429.jpg P.s its going to the VW dealership next week to have a diagnostic test and have the ECU reset properly. Thanks Luke
