  1. So I'm gathering parts for my AFH conversion on my 1.4 6N. Today I picked up a throttle body for a good price (in my country). When i went home, i realized that *something* inside is hitting the plastic housing on the side (see attached image). It sounds like some small part is sliding on an axle. It is not loose in the sense that it rattles around every time I move it, but rather it hits the housing every time I tilt it to the left. Is this normal? Should I return it?
  2. Hi everybody, I am collecting parts to build a 1.4 abd engine with 3f upgrades (intake, wire loom, injectors, ecu and camshaft) Trying to find a 3f throttle body, which is pretty hard to do. Am planning to put a 268 camshaft and 180 ml injectors in, in the future. So a slighty bigger diametre throttle body might come in handy. So are there any oem throttle bodys that anybody knows of, that might be a upgrade to the 3f one?
  3. Hi, apologies if this is the wrong section of the forum (im new to posting here, long time lurker) i have a polo 9n 1.2 3 cylinder, i have heard that it is possible to swap the throttle bodies from that of a mk4 golf, is there a specific engine size from the golf that i need to get it from or will they all fit, i dont know if the golfs use a universal size or they change with engine size which i assume, any help will be appreciated. also i have had trouble of finding exhaust systems that will fit the car, i have a quote of 150 to get a custom backbox made by hand, however is there any full catback systems that you guys use on your polo's many thanks,
  4. Hi I would like to ask if anyone could shed any light on the following problem which has been getting worse during the last 6 months. When cold (damp weather too) the car will cold idle badly. Driving like this will make it jump/hesitate around 1200-2000rpm any gear. It does not like the accelerator pressed too quickly. If I drive 2 miles then switch off, it will NOT start again - only turn over. Leaving it for 10-15mins it will start ok again and then idle & run smoothly. Again, once the initial problem has gone, the car runs nicely for the rest of the day. The car has new fuel filter (correct one) and new oil separator. I have tested the imp values of the HT leads and coil pack and all values seem as per std. Every year I normally remove and clean out the throttle body too with TB cleaner and toothbrush. Spark plugs seem ok (3 pin Bosch as per Haynes Manual I have bought) Air filter is new Sometimes I add injector cleaner to petrol whilst filling up. I can think of the following possibilities but would like to hear from someone with more experience, ....rather than just replacing the list of items below (expensive) 1) injectors ? 2) coolant temp sensor ? 3) clean TB again ? (last time 1yr ago) 4) coil pack micro crack in plastic case + damp weather ? (although the car is fine for the rest of the day) 5) new plugs ? 6) MAF or air related problem / TB dirty / TB idle control ? 7) anything else ? I greatly appreciate any constructive tips to resolve this relatively new problem which for the last 8 years had never occurred. Thanks Phil
  5. Hi All, looking for a bit of advice on trying to get a 6N2 GTI engine (ARC or AVY) over to running on a throttle cable rather than fly-by-wire for a conversion I am working on. I have not yet sourced the donor car and hear rumor that there were some 6N2 GTI's which ran a throttle cable, any more information on this would be appreciated. I believe that the majority are FBW. I am presuming that I will start with a Polo rather than a Lupo as the donor card look to be generally far cheaper in Polo form. I wondered whether there might be a plug & play option with an AFH throttle body (and manifold if required & injectors can be swapped)? I will be using the standard GTI management. Any advice on which models of the AVY/ARC that run a throttle cable or advice on throttle body swap options would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Adam
  6. Hello there, My brother has a mk2 Polo GT and I have started working on the spare throttle body. There are a lot of improvements to be made, firstly the infamous "dewedging" which opens up the throttle body but the throttle butterfly spindles can be slimmed down quite a bit to further open up flow. The mouth of the throttle body is quite angular in places and could be smoothed out and made into more of a trumpet shape for better, smoother airflow. Would there be interest from anyone else with GTs to have the same work done on their throttle bodies on an exchange basis? Just testing the water. Thanks, Russ
  7. Dear All, My first post. Have a 2003 Mk4 Polo. It has done a few miles (circa 125000). Have a new problem, and wondering if someone would mind offering some advice? I'm not sure whether to invest in the repair or sell it to someone that can. When the accelerating, the engine revs very high, as if the gears are not engaging and there is little power. Eventually, when there is no significant work required of the engine, i.e. on a flat or downhill, the revs slow down to what would be expected. The problem then comes again when using the throttle. The engine is also making quite a bit of noise, sounds like a hole in the exhaust manifold, but had that checked by the local garage and nothing doing. Changed the oil and slight improvement. There is no engine warning light, though previous have had "throttle body under voltage". Having looked up the codes (misplaced), I am suspecting that the throttle body is dirty and needs a good clean. However, as a novice, am worried about taking it out myself. Spoke to VW, £240 just to have a look and reset the throttle body actuator. Is this likely just the throttle body is dirty, or does it sound like a bigger problem, like the gearbox needs to be replaced? Cheers in advance.
  8. Polo 6N -98 1,6 AEE Hello! I'm having a problem where I have no Idle until my car is on normal temp but it only works for about 15 seconds from time to time then the engine stalls, and also my car wont start if i'm not pushing down the throttle pedal. This all happened after an electrical failure in my left hand side aftermarket headlight with crappy connectors. When i turned on the ignition all the lightning in my left hand side headlight was emitting light but very dim or low (low beam, high beam, parking light & angeleyes) so instead of turning it of i started to switch between different lighting setups (like low beam, parking lights only etc.) and on parking lights only it worked perfectly but as i switched to fullbeam my auxillary lamps wouldn't turn off, so i guess there was a short curcuit somewhere... however, as I tried to turn the engine on it just wouldn't start. The starter motor rotates, the engine rotates but it does sound like it's fairl easy to pull around and sometimes it sounds like it wants to starts so badly, like one or two cylinder/s actually ignites. VagCom returns me an error code for Idle motor/regulator so i replaced the throttlebody to a used one just now and I still have the same problem. I did however loosen the hose for the canister purge solenoid valve and then it started and idled normally but I don't think that's the problem. When you start it with the throttle pedal down and keep it at about 1000 rpm you can actually feel a vibration coming from the throttle body itself. Could actually feel it when i reved it by hand from the engine bay too. It comes from the butterfly/throttle When you turn the key to "ON" the throttlebody emitts a dim beeping noise for about 4 seconds and the butterfly makes a clicking noise both at the start and the end of the beeping sequence. The question is... Is there something else than the throttle body that controlls the engine idle? Have I completely toasted the ECU? PS. I did also have an error code on the Oxygen sensor and MAP-Sensor saying singal Intermittent but they did not return as the Idle one did after deletion.
  9. Hey, Posts have already been made about this problem but I'm really desperate. My Polo (53 plate) keeps stalling and cutting out when the clutch is pushed down (released). It struggles to start in the morning too. The idle RpM seems to be really low around 700. I have replaced the throttle body, cleaned it and the intake below the TB. I have replaced the coolant temperature sensor, and disconnected the battery for 16hours to try and reset the ECU. NON OF THIS HAS WORKED (not even helped!) Can anyone please help?? I've got no ideas left :( I've uploaded a video to of it cutting out:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyhd9LBAPgU Idel photo: http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g393/LukeTabasco/20150130_185429.jpg P.s its going to the VW dealership next week to have a diagnostic test and have the ECU reset properly. Thanks Luke
  10. HI, I've got a 1.4 16V AFK polo. My throttle body has been playing up so I've found a replacement - but it's off an AHF engine type. I've been told it'll fit (and the guy says it works) but, on my AFK type I've got a vacum pipe (or something) on the back of the throttle body. On the AFH type, I can't see this. What do I have to do to make this AFH type throttle body fit? Any help or advice would be much appreciated Peace x
  11. Hello. I bought this car in January and I've been having problems with it recently. It has been stalling when I'm coming to a stop, usually when the clutch pedal is down. I've been looking around the internet what could be the problem and usually the throttle body and the temp sensor are the cause, the throttle body needs cleaning and the temp sensor needs replacing. I was wondering if it would be easy to do it or should I just take it to a garage and let them do it and if so, how much would it usually cost? Thanks in advance!
