New Pedal Box Assembly needed?

Recommended Posts

paulypj

Hi all,

Just a quick question.

Below is a video of my clutch pedal in action. (1.03min in you can see what I'm on about)

The bracket that I see moving behind it I assume shouldnt be moving and it indicated I have cracked welds?

Do I need to replace the pedal box assembly?

Thx

Paul.

yes bud looks bad, better to get it done sooner than later before you end up with a snapped pedal box, its a pig of a job, you can do it with dash still in just about but much easier to do without dash tbh bud, I've done 3 so i kno whow shit it is aha

Phoned around.

Best offer from local garage is £325 all in (parts & VAT & Labour).

Sound fair?

Its time it takes man,

If you are competent with the spanners you can do it in a day,

I'm doing mine now but I'm welding mine back up,

Will get some pics up tomorrow night.

Musts are,

Disconnect Battery

New brake peddle, mine cost £18.

remove steering column ( no need to remove steering wheel. )

You don't have to buy a new peddle box if you can get it welded and you don't need to replace the snap off bolts they serve no purpose at all other than make life awkward just put normal M8 bolts in.

Pics would be great.

I dont really have the time or equipment at the moment (nor the money, but somethings got to give right?!! haha)

Hopefully the replacement boxes are more re-inforced than the originals and have more life in them (anyone know?)

The box is about £45 +vat according to TPS.

Mr Clutch quoted me £445 all in.... give them a miss eh!?

I think £325 is fair in comparison.

Would love to see some more pics of the job done by any of you guys.

Thanks for the replies.

Well I had the job done on friday.

The garage was really good, never been met with such good customer service.

Without me asking they even kept the old pedal box to show me how bad the damage was.

The clutch bracket was torn around the 2 spot welds, and the big weld at the back of the bracket was cracked in two.

Would have surely completely snapped the clutch bracket off of the pedal box very soon.

Drives so much nicer now, with the clutch feeling great, high bite point and importantly proper operation...

so NO MORE CRUNCHING IN REVERSE!!

Thanks for all your advise on this topic.

Regards

Pauly.
