Abd internals in an aav lump?

Recommended Posts

martijnt

I was planning on getting an abd lump in my polo.

But i have no papers for it, so that might get me in trouble when i want to have it checked to get 1.4 on paper. (For insurance etc)

A friend of mine said: why don't we put the crank, rods and pistons of the abd in the aav lump?

So from the outside it looks like a aav, but from the inside it is a 1.4 abd?

Is that possible? Does it fit?

In Uk the abd swap is much more common than it is in Holland, so i hope someone has more info about it.

Greetings from Holland.

not much on the outside to say its 1.4 , would need a really keen expert to spot one

If i would fit the abd lump, the engine numbers would tell that it is not the original engine.

And in Holland it is seen as fraud.

So if i hit somebody and the insurance finds out you don't have the original engine in your car, you lose your insurance and you can pay for the damages.

Plus you get sued for fraud.

So, thats why i want to put the internals of the abd in the aav.

My friend says it fits, but i want to be sure before i do all the work for it.

same as the uk....would it not be fraud fitting the wrong internals to make it a bigger capacity too

engine numbers are all rusted away by now , im pretty sure the block is the same size bore as a 1300 so it might work

The bore is the same, the stroke is different.

But there is nobody who can tell me if it would fit?

I really wouldnt like it all, if it doesnt fit.

Would be a waste of time and energy.

Your friend is not nobody.

Might be more to it than mechanical swap... check that the crank journal circumference has clearance to rotate.

Drain the oil, remove sump and measure?

You also need to be sure the compression ratio stays reasonable for AAV head with ABD pistons.

Could always use Honda Pm6 pistons and D15 conrods
