VW Polo 6N2 Door Locks

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I bought a 2000 VW Polo 6N2 last October as a car to use during the winter so I didn't have to use the motorbike. When I bought it there was no lock cylinder in the driver's side door, so I've never been able to lock it. Now i'm thinking about selling it and would like to sort the locks out. This is where it gets confusing. I bought a pair of cylinders c/w keys, paddles and springs thinking that would sort it (1st image). I also bought a lock repair kit just in case any bits were missing (2nd image). I then took the passenger's side door handle off to check whether the lock cylinder was the same as the one I had bought. It turns out they are different (3rd image). Were there 2 types of locks fitted to these cars or am I missing something here? I can find loads of repair kits on eBay etc. to repair the type of lock that I have but I can't find the lock cylinder itself anywhere. I don't think the hook type shown in the 1st image will fit as there are lugs missing and the part where the key goes in appears to be smaller in diameter. I don't want to spend a fortune as the car isn't worth a huge amount but I'd like to get it sorted for the next owner if possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Mark

Hi Nige,

Thanks, good to be here.

Thanks for your reply, that's what I thought. What would you say my options are then? Either try and source a couple of handles with keys from the scrappy or speak to a VW Dealer? If I got a pair of the early type second hand handle assemblies from a scrappy, would the paddles fit in the same way as my existing ones would?

Cheers,

I would try and source some "new" style locks there must be plenty being broken on eBay or try StevensVW dismantles in Essex they normally have plenty of 6N2's in stock

Hi Nige,

Just wanted to say thanks for your help. I sourced some 2nd hand locks from Stevens VW and fitted them yesterday morning, even the central locking still worked! Thanks again!

Cheers,

      hello

i have a GTI 6n2 3 door and central locking pump in  boot and both front door lock barrels are broken. Central locking pump circuit has burned inside. so no locking / unlocking available via key either due to broken barrels. Wanted to know if a cheaper aftermarket remote locking kit will still work independant of standard pump in the boot or does the actual pump has to be in working condition for the aftermarket kit to work. Secondly I have bought a kit and connected everything with the wires in the boot to the pump and aftermarket kit is operating fine but does not lock or unlock via remote. Just wondered if the pump must be in working condition for the remote to lock  / unlock. Thanks.

      Hi everyone!
My name is Alex and im new to club polo, i drive a flash red 5 door 6n2 polo and i love it!
ive had the car for a while now and have started to do some modifications to get it how i want it to look, i am on a student budget so coilovers will have to wait until i can save up - anyway, here is my build thread so far!

So the little polo had been sat for years in a bush with a broken gearbox and plants growing all over it, until i came along and with help from friends and family we got her a new box and got her on the road. This is her stock on standard steelies - such a pretty little machine!

First thing i new i wanted was wheels, so my dad got in touch with a mate and managed to get me some BBS RAs - from a mk2 golf gti!
Then i decided to paint a few things. First i did my front grill black to make it stand out a bit more - i also painted my front splitter red to make the bumper look a bit smoother, what a difference that made!

i got a hold of some new door speakers for free so i installed those with new grates - they sound way better than my standard ones

i thought my front end could do with an added touch so i took the 16v badge from my engine cover and glued it to my grill - looking good!

also got a guy on facebook to photoshop my car slammed! Its gonna look so good!

hopefully i will remember to upload some more photos as the build progresses! Or simply follow me on instagram @alex.6n2 ??
