How to identify a mk2 8v engine

Recommended Posts

Was sold a mk2 1.3 engine but the engine code has worn down and is impossible to read. Was just wondering if the number on the back of the block relates to the cc? As mine has a 10 on it which would suggest it’s a 1 litre rather than 1.3.

Great if anyone could help me identify the engine

Can you measure the stroke from TDC to BDC down a spark plug hole?

(eg chopstick down it to  measure lowest point and highest point)

Assuming it is 75mm bore, (which the exhaust port spacing being about 79mm should confirm) then

If stroke is 72mm it is 1.272

If stroke is 59mm it is 1.043.
