Hello.

Been the proud owner of a 6n2 gti for about 2 years now. Had some intermittent starting issues recently especially when re feeling. I was told it could be the duel fuel pumps. Not sure as I never managed to get a definite answer!! Any ways. I’ve been looking at doing an engine swap. I’m a weekend mechanic with limited experience. I’m sure I couldn’t do it and get it right. Got a quote from one company that do it all in! £10k!! So that’s out the window. Does anyone have any suggestions. I don’t want to spend too much! But I love this car!!! Help.

Gary

Good choice - nice cars the polo gti - they will go one way in terms of value especially as a lot have been modded to death.

Personally I would get it running as it should and keep as the GTI will only go up in value.

I would then look at getting something else if you want quicker the polo gti was 6n2 was never a quick car.

If you do decide to engine swap You could put an Audi 20v turbo in it or polo g40 engine in it.

Now if anyone knows what the cause of my intermittent starting problem is... it’s usually once it’s hot and always when I re fuel. Potentially it’s the duel fuel pumps.

There is only one fuel pump on your car !  When you open the drivers door, can you hear the pump run for a few seconds ?

I can confirm whoever told you there are dual pumps was talking out of their @rse

It sounds like the pump is running then when you open the door, that primes the injector fuel pressure, so if its not starting OK after this it sounds like the pressure regulator isn't holding the pressure

Haha. Maybe I should find a new garage!! Yeah that’s also something I’ve read. When I refuel it won’t start afterwards.
