silver polo gt project

Featured Replies

so after 2 years of driving and owning 3 polos i thaught it was time to make a build thread on my new car

my first polo was previously owned by a member on here (sheph4rd) it was a silver polo gt, lowered custom exhaust few other bits, he sold the ats classics seperate unfortunately. i sold this after around 6 months for something more practical as i was doing alot of miles.

my second car was a silver polo 6n 1.4 8v on schmitds, this is currently for sale on here due to missing my mk3 and wanting another one.

so my third car is my current car, another silver polo gt, low milage, completely standard, very good condition.

i was going to lower it first then slowly buy things for it but after a week of owning it i found a very nice set of weller mattigs so i couldnt resist. here it is after putting them on...

320825_10150430117672534_549862533_10644

currently it still stands like this with only a de-wipered rear, smothed off passenger mirror and a set of black door cards with the rear seats taken out while i wait for arrival of my 60/50 ap lowering kit.

I was also lucky enough to buy back my first polo gt for a quarter of the price i sold it for, unfortunately it has a rotten chassis but i plan to take all the good parts of it, exhaust etc, and sell the engine and scrap or sell the shell, the shell has had the gutters removed and smoothed all the arches removed and wide arches put on.

so i will update as i go.

Awesome! Mattigs are a great wheel for the Mk3 :-) Will be keeping an eye on this

Very nice man, looks well clean and plans sound good.

I also use the 60/50 ap kit, very good for the money.

Didn't do as much as I'd hoped to this weekend as I need a hydraulic jack, and it was freezing.

But I have fitted clear front indicators with Chrome bulbs, super bright headlights bulbs and side light bulbs to match.

I then started taking a few bits off the spare gt I have, bonnet struts, k&n cone filter with adaptor for afm.

Does anyone know if there's a difference between a k&n and a piper cross filter as I have both, probably won't be any but iv heard some filters can cause problems with the afm?

I'm thinking of cutting the bolt on part of the front upper strut brace off and welding mounts onto the body for the cross brace anyone else done this? Pictures?

Update after next weekend hopefully if the weathers good.

Haven't done much to this over the weekend as it has been snowing. but I have purchased a bigger valved head with crane cam and a balanced crank in an abd block.

I am probably going to use the head and cam on my gt block and sell the abd block as I don't want any trouble with my insurance. Also seems like its a lot of hassle for not much gain considering my block has no problems and is low milage.

I have also removed the exhaust from the spare gt ready to put on with the head probably.

And I'm planning to remove all the uneccassary inlet vacuum pipes to tidy it up abit.

Lowering springs should also be here soon can't wait, ill get pictures up soon.

Big valve head is on along with decat 4-2-1 stainless mani and slightly bigger cam. Seems more pokey at higher revs so happy with that, needed doing anyway as my head gasket went. I drained the oil and water came out the sump.

Next I will be matching the inlet manifold to the head ports as iv got a spare. Also planning on getting a silicone intake pipe made to connect to golf gti afm.

Then I will try and get a ppp chip, hopefully there's one in my old ecu.

Any ideas what silver your gt is painted?

Springs should be fitted in the next few weeks now they've finally arrived.

Iv fitted a polo performance standard limit chip and be centre caps on the wheels I'm getting the exhaust modified with a 2.5 inch tail pipe soon.

plan is to start hill climb so will need little bits for that, going to start off small most things I have just need building (abd block) setting up and fitting. Then in the future if all goes well maybe a cage and bucket seats, steering wheel, seem welding etc.

Anyone doing hill climb that has any info please let me know as I need all the info I can get.

Lowered this at the weekend, lower than I thought it would be so slenty of scrubbing and scraping, probably get lower profile tyres some time. I went 1 notch down from middle on the back as its stripped so think this is 60/60. I fitted powder coated hub/struts with new bearings and new bottom arms aswell. Only took around an hour each side for fronts and half an hour each for the rears.

Took a long 3 hour round trip to Weston aswell and only issues were the scrubbing.

New exhaust being made on Thursday aswell. Just need to get some arb blocks to clear the mani because it rattles on hard acceleration.

Is anyone going to Santa pod fast show 25th march?

Joe

Thanks mate really makes it worth while when you get comments like that.

Also small update, pink samco induction and other little silicone pipes being ordered courtesy of the misses, was going to get black but she said she would pay if I got pink.

I'll put pictures up when they're fitted.

So its been a while I have no pictures at the moment due to my camera being broke.

But I have fitted 4 new Yokohama a539 175/60 13. Very good so far, scrubbed more than I thought they would so I borrowed an arch roller, took the arch trim off folded the lip over cut back the arch trim and glued it back on.

While fitting my tyres I got my wheels re painted as they were abit rusty, went with Matt black instead of gloss.

Also my intake pipe arrived so fitted that, looks a lot better now.

Next I cut off the drivers wing mirror (already blanked passengers) and used the base to attach a mini style bullet wing mirror, I used fiberglass to do this, still needs finishing but its ok for now.

Drove to Wales (4 hours) for the weekend and was happy I had no problems to the car but the day after I realised my exhaust was hanging off and the hanger on the back box had snapped so got a mate to weld it back on and weld another one the other side aswell. No problems so far.

my car was on a club stand at modified nationals so I got a mate to mop the car aswell because he owed me a favour. Then the night before I was going I got a fuel leak under the car, was worried it was a broken fuel line or worse, a tank. But I had a look and it was the fuel filter had corroded through whete the strap goes round, I have put a spare I had on for now but plan to get a high flow filter

Oh and a mate made a rear strut brace to bolt onto the top of the rear shocks so I put it on. Going to make one out if some alloy tube I have tho that goes between the shock turrets and welded in. Then weld my front one on aswell.

I have lots more plans and ideas just finding time and money to do them.

Pictures will be up soon.

I saw your car and the Leon joining the M6 near Coventry on the way to Mod Nats last week, but I was going the opposite way and was in a Volvo. Looked good - there's a thread in spotted about it.

That looks awesome mate, does the front scrub with the 175/60's?
