Club Polo Rolling Road Day 2010 Results

Featured Replies

Here's the results from today, if people could post their engine mods as its the one thing I don't have a comprehensive list of! Will help define the GT's and the 16v's a bit better

(PS Number in brackets is power at the wheels)

Car's of the day for me, either Tommo's ABD or Nick's G, both absolute animals! :-D

i dont understand how oly s and oily fingers have same power at wheels but different at the fly, actually I'm a fag just worked out it will be due to their tyre sizes and what not lol

some gd results up there, gutted i couldnt make it in the end

fucking go on then tommo! well done mate 8-)

proper gutted i couldn't make it :(

year 1 standard 103bhp

year 2 BMC 110bhp

year 3 as above but achieved 117 bhp!

a BMC cant give 14 bhp surely!

Was a good day, thanks Jon for making it run smoothly.

Toms car aint all that to look at, but he sure knows his stuff under the bonnet. Legend for sorting out his geometry issues which saw him nearly not get a dyno run. GT25 blower with boost ramped right up

Anyone see what mine actually got on the second power run? It was over 180bhp when they took it to 7000rpm. Only down side is they forgot to hit the save button :!:

Awesome!

Did anyone get pics etc?

Chrispy how does your car get more powerful with age?

My stock AAV got 65 at the fly... HOW?! that rolling road must be out haha

if u lot was up on power mine must be fucked!!!

as I'm 25 bhp down!

I've got no complaints haha.

It was great in the end, I nearly cried when my car wouldnt run right on the rollers, especially seen as I'm totally skint and the £40 in fuel would have been totally wasted. And then to make figures like that after all the worrying was euphoric.

Its gay but knowing how much power it makes just makes me want to increase it lol, theres room to run a fair few degrees more ignition advance and a bit more boost if I didnt mind sacreficing turbo life a little (its at about 18psi/1.3bar atm). Not to mention that on full boost the AFR is low elevens (because I cant be arsed jetting it into the 12's) safer that way I suppose.

I guess I will have to wait till next year though, apparently most dynos are £100 an hour if you go on your own, so I think I will stick to tuning it on the road by ear for now :D.

It was great to speak to a few guys, and Nicks mk2 looked fantastic and made great power to say he is still setting it up.

Thanks go to the people who offered the use of their tools and equipment and of course a big thanks to Jon for doing all the leg work.

Cya next year, I'm hooked now, official dyno junkie!

shit dude i didnt know u was from huds.. id of driven up with u instead of meeint u on the m6 lol.

ncie to meet u dude :D

if u lot was up on power mine must be fucked!!!

want me to post one of my print outs so you can see where you're going wrong? lol

Nice one on the ABD turbo figures Tommo! Any chance of a scan/pic of your plot? Be interesting to see how it compares to a K03. BTW - Sleath's dyno nearish to you is about £75/hour.

Yeah I will sort it out later when I'm at home. It was 201 lbs/ft of torque as well, cant get the grin off my face lol. £75 is still a lot of money, I could get an R5 group A carb for that and that instead of the crappy standard one I have now that has a 25mm venturi lol, literally all that power through a hole the size of a 50 pence piece.

And simmy, yeah, I shall bear it in mind for future events. As long as every convoy doesent end up as one 50 mile long 130mph race haha.

Cheers for everyones positive comments anyway. I know its a budget thing compared to some peoples rides, but I have certainly put a lot of time into it so its good to get some satisfaction out of it.

I think they must be out by a fair bit.

I mean this one for example....

cheys 03 - AAV running MPI and its getting 5 bhp more than a standard GT should? Unless hes lying and theres more to it than MPI

It doesn't make sense.

Good day anyway, and Tommo, yours was amazing.

I was expecting the worse... bits of engine implanted in everyones faces haha.

good result for the afh on bike carbs. good to know where mine was about before i rolled it.

Yeah I agree, it does look optimistic.

Big Burt and I ran the same engine BHP but quite different wheel bhp (mine lower). We quizzed one of the techies and he reckoned it was completely plausible, probably that my gearbox introduces a lot of friction in the final drive, which I can somewhat believe as it is quite whiney (which I put thicker oil in, in an effort to silence it). He also mentioned that even things like tyres can have a fair impact.

In defense of the read out though - the car saw a fair bit of basic prep before the RR. I serviced it on Thursday, have run injector cleaner on/off for a month, gave it some 99ron fuel for the last 2 tanks and tuned the ignition and fueling accordingly to the best of my ability without remapping. It also has a Fahrvergnugen Tuning chip which I forgot to mention

Still though, it does look too high.

Edit: Big thanks to Jon - top bloke and well done for keeping us all in order!

i have to lol again at simmy

I'm still in shock about tommo's result, well not really come to think of it, i did a few mile down the road in this, and fighting to keep it on the road, i was sweating like fuck, uncontrollably pressing the right of the footwell.

Tom knows his stuff, and that shows in his car, tom is there a you tube video of you riding a motorbike on an iced lake?

someone mentioned it to me today ;)

Look forward to seeing the pics, i heard not many old school members there either, oh you kids hey lol

Fair do's dude!

I'd be pretty damn happy with it though tbh, even if there rollers are a bit out.

Ha, you crack me up DK, that was aaaaaages ago when I took you out. 1.3 engine and next to no boost haha. Its worse now, spins the wheels in 4th gear.

And search youtube for 'tom riding on frozen lake'

I quizzed the guys at aldon about the RR, well, mainly about the rumbling noise it was making, and they said it had been serviced and calibrated just before xmas, but they hadnt greased a bearing right hence the rumbling. He said they had cars that they regularly dyno that were still reading consistent figures to what they normally do so they werent all that bothered.

Who knows, some cars made loads, some made less. I wonder if it was the foggy air suiting some cars better than others lol.

Yeah the old bloke who runs the place has a little race car that he does hill climbs in and he said the difference between having the gearbox oil cool and having it at working temp is 10bhp!!!!

Not as weird as my 'geometry issue' though. Changed the wheels and it was fine.

That was mine, second run. On the first run it span up and he had to stand on the car lol.

Here's mine
