Nice one dude

I know this may sound daft but could we not demand pictures in adverts with a jar of something....

Another site I'm on does this and its called the custard test..... what ever item your selling has to have a jar of custard next to it e.t.c or your usename.

Kinda helps prove if they do have the bits atleast.......

I agree with you mate, seems like a good idea

dadude01 - Immature mate not needed.

Cheers for the heads up guys.

Thanks for the heads up Kerrly.

Seems she was using a three mobile broadband unit.

That is a crkn good idea this site is just one big play ground 4 sammers and there seems to mre and mre day by day

r32 owners club and ukmkivs have adopted the 'pic must contain paper with username of seller and date on it' stance.

it works well to deter scammers but has killed the classifieds.

I wonder why its killed the classifieds?

Its not like you need it in every picture - just one per thread - either you have the stuff or not?

Its a great idea.

I've bought plenty of stuff on here from people as part of getting my car back on the road. Mostly is been fine, but you hear of forum classifieds scammers more and more frequently.

If someone says paypal gift I offer to pay the charges but still want protection of standard paypal.

it would be a bit annoying to do. I'm breaking a car

and it would take ages.

can we not have an additional feature on the forum where other users can verify members or only allow members in the classifieds, and if your a member then names and adresses are there for all to see and paypal payment can be checked to see if its verified when you join.

Club G40 has a buyer/seller rating thread, make it part of the classifieds!!!!!

One of the forums I was on had an ebay type selling section.

Ill ask the guy who ran it how he did it.

Didn't the forum have a rule once that only paid members could access the classifieds?

Also I think some people need to be a little more vigilant.

I mean I'd never pay a paypal deposit if I was just a 20minute drive away to pick something up.

Looking at both threads though she can't have gotten away with much.

Sheffield Forum's one is kinda ok, you can close your own topics and mark the thread as sold if you want to, you sort of moderate your own ad.

don't know how that would affect the scammers though.

I think the username and date would be a good idea. A bit of a pain in the ass if there's a lot to sell though.

alternatively, all Club Members have had their address taken (in order to send out the welcome packs) so the admins and mods could keep a record of these addresses and match them with usernames if they needed to, the only problem that arises then is with new members.

UK MKIV's has a system where you must be a member for 6+ months and have over 200 posts before you can post in or create a topic in their for sale sections, can't comment on how well it would work though as i've only been there for a few months and have about 3 posts!

Or 1000+ :p

But seriously yeah, username and date in a pic, not hard to write on a sheet of A4 in sharpie is it!

yeah i think so but it just killed them completely imo - and I'm not just saying it because I'm not paid up

I don't think it would work anyway, what's £5 when you're going to scam people out of much more anyway.

Your address would be taken upon paying the £5, meaning that members could 'send the boys round' or could be given to the police and reported as Theft (and possibly fraud?)

Paying to use the classifieds has been tried and everyone kicked up a fuss over it. Anyhow it won't stop fraudsters anyway as they will just give a different address and not their own.

a fairly simple solution would be to ask the seller if collection is welcome (even if you want the item posted) If the seller says no to collection, then alarm bells should start ringing if you have half a brain cell.

I simply wont buy off of people if they wont allow collection in person and dont have pics of the actual item they are selling.

Obviously theres still a risk of being done over, but it's a lot less likely. People need to take more responsibility for themselves, you can't expect a free to use forum to mummy you.

Use a bit of common sense and you won't go far wrong

i dont think that even posting a picture of the part with a username next to it is that safe either tbh. anyone could just save the picture(s) (probably loads if they browsed the whole forum section) set up an account under your username somewhere else and do the same :ninja:

That's why you put Club Polo and the date or just ask them to show something completely random in the pic I.e. A chocolate bar / bottle of milk etc.

I do think it's a good idea, if someone wants to scam, they will but I think this would help to keep it to a minimum

I for 1 am not having my name and address posted on here member or not.

Also eat some custard keep the empty can in the garage, when you take a pic of something put the can next to it. wouldnt call it hard. :?

the seller rating thing i would imagine to be quite complex to setup as its a system edit kinda thing where as if you want to sell something and not get yoru topic deleted add a custard pic.....

i meant in the case of a active scammer - he would have had his name and address given to get his/her welcome pack. I'm not saying display everyones to everyone literally you dumbnut

You really reckon youre gonna give a legit address if you plan on scamming people out of a few hundred pounds?

It could be made part of the registration, a bit like paypal perhaps, when you sign up, an activation code is sent by post and when you receive said code, You can input it and it would complete the registration, if you're pending, you can't post in the sale threads. At least this way, there is An address where that user has contact...

Just a thought

Its enough grief for the admin staff just sending out the member packs! Not a bad idea but unrealistic. I think we all just need to be a lot more on the ball.
