Out of intrest is it possible to make a 1.0 a bit quicker without tekin the engine to bits?

Chip, airfilter, strip it out, exhaust system. might gain you 10bhp if your lucky!

if you use the search function there are loads of topics on this. there are a couple of mods that will gain you a bit more driveability, but its never gonna be a massive amount gained. you can mess around with the throttle body and injector and fit a gt cam and it will make it pretty good fun for what it is.

filter will make naff all difference and a performance exhaust isnt really worth the cost.

I've done this to a couple of 1 litre polos I've owned, mostly due to having the parts kicking about, so didnt really cost me anything to do and it did tranform the car for what it was.

imo its no more pointless than tuning a gt or 16v or g40 or any other car for that matter, cos if you think about it, unless your minted to hell, there is always gonna be someone with a quicker or better car.

tuning the suspension and brakes is always a good cost effective way to make small engined cars faster, as is stripping out unwanted bits (but it has its obvious downsides)

Yeah,removing weight is the main aim imo. The 6n 1.0 is basically a '90 Golf 1.0, its amazing they made the thing in the first place.

Knowing it was gonna be the slowest water-cooled car they'd ever made,they used an aluminium cylinder block. Not that there's much weight left to bin unless its power-steered,it has a tiny pistons and will never have any muscle unless you 'charge it.

Have you got any quotes on a spicier one? For the money you'd spend on just a K&N filter,if insurance on a 1.6 8v is an extra tenner a month you're laughing.

And when i sell a car and buy another,i get a better one for less than i sold the last one,so you could even make some money there if you're savvy with the deals.

Try fitting some wider wheels, my Mk3 Fox has standard steelies aka "pram tyres" and they tend to complain if you go in hard. Stresshead knows what I mean :p.

so true! I took my rather large friend out in my polo and it felt soooo sluggish! It still abliterated an S2000 but if the fat fecker next it would of been a lot more impressive!

the 1L have no guts so you cant gain much, there is no point really. you can just stick a decent filter on, better exhaust, chipped ecu, stiffen up chasis a bit, but by the time you have done this and cost, you may as well just insured a 1.3.

but u can make it faster through corners, better tires, wider wheels, strut braces front and back...so u can keep up in corners..thats what i did

cheers all i didnt think there would be much point, i did have a 1.4 6n2 but due to money n stuff had to sell and get the 1.0, might just leave as is till money situation improves.

I only weigh 52kg :p. No wonder my 1l polo seems quicker when it's just me lol .

seriously if u strip everything out from the 1.0 ull notice adiffrence..

i took the rear seats out the spare wheel and it felt faster.

I'm sure Phil J of here supercharged a 1.0.. think it lasted a mile up the road loool
