ok so I've seen alot of threads asking about what coilovers are best, how much drop etc so i thought we could all come together and help each other out and maybe this could get pinned for future reference

so now i thought those of us who have coilovers could fill out some information about them using the following criteria

Make: Ie; ta technix, FK etc

Model: were a model applies

Height adjustment limits: ie; 20mm-120mm

Helper springs: Have you got them in Yes/No

Damping adjustable: Yes/No

Current ride height: how low are yours at the moment

Ride Quality: Extremely stiff, stiff but livable, firm, bit like a blamonge etc

Driven daily: Yes/No

Price: £???

Pros: what specifically do you like about you coilovers

Cons: what could be better, or what dont you like about you coilovers

Have you had any other coilovers? if so what where they and are they better or worse than your current ones (what would you recommend):

Quite a good idea, and I'm bored stiff, so why not, lol....

Make: TA Technix

Model: -----

Height adjustment limits: About 120mm

Helper springs: still fitted, low enough..

Damping adjustable: no

Current ride height: about 120/100mm

Ride Quality: Rock hard, bouncy and noisy

Driven daily: for now yes

Price: £200 ish

Pros: cheap lows

Cons: poor ride quality

Have you had any other coilovers? not owned but have experienced Weitecs which i found superior even when ran as low as the TA's.. but obviously you get what you pay for..

Make: TA Technix

Model: n/a

Height adjustment limits: 20mm-120mm

Helper springs: Removed from front still in on the rear

Damping adjustable: No

Current ride height: 100/90 (front/back)

Ride Quality: For me its perfect, very communicative, handles well rides well if driven sensibly

Driven daily: Yes (when it works)

Price: £200

Pros: cheap/affordable but still look like a quality product. Relatively easy to fit, adjusted easily and despite what most people say I think they give a pretty good ride.

Cons: Like with all coilovers they will seize if they aren't copper greased and maintained.

Never had any other coilovers but had TA Technixs twice now and both times have been great. I've seen people write on here about how they are terrible over bumpy roads and if you hit a pothole. But I've found an easy way to solve that...avoid the bloody bumps and potholes!

I'd say for general road use and maybe a bit of fun at the weekends TA Technix coilovers are more than good enough for those needs. I would personally only invest in a more expensive setup if I was tracking the car.

Ride Quality: Extremely stiff but livable cause i wanted it low

Pros: cheap and low

Cons: can be abit bumpy like incredibly bumpy

Have you had any other coilovers? if so what where they and are they better or worse than your current ones (what would you recommend): this is my first car so no first experience but i can live with the ride quality

if you wanna go low you have to pay the price of either more money or the ride quality.

Model: 6N Coilovers (?)

Height adjustment limits: 20mm-120mm

Helper springs: Yes

Damping adjustable: No

Current ride height: 80mm drop for now.

Ride Quality: Stiff, but liveable

Driven daily: Yes

Price: £165

Pros: Cheap lows!

Cons: Materials, they need regular checks to ensure they don't seize.

Model: For 6n polo

Height adjustment limits: 120mm max.

Helper springs: Out all around.

Damping adjustable: No.

Current ride height: Around 110mm at a guesstimate.

Ride Quality: Stiff but livable

Driven daily: Yes

Price: £120

Pros: Cheap, 2 year warranty and not had a problem so far.

Cons: Could be a better ride, but for the money, it's not terrible.

Have you had any other coilovers? I've felt Weitecs on a 6n and they are better quality, but more ££ = better ride.

Model: silverline-x

Height adjustment limits: 30mm-100mm - figures apply with helpers in, taking them out would need chassis notch anyway.

Helper springs: Yes

Damping adjustable: Yes

Current ride height: guess at 55 - 65mm (still in bbs mode)

Ride Quality: Extremely stiff - when I have the RSs on I run on max stiffness as they rub on the arches at the slightest hint of a bump but as stated, they are adjustable so they could be softer if i wanted. I'm happy with how they are but compared to standard suspension they're bumpy as fuck!

Driven daily: Yes

Price: £703

Pros: fully adjustable

Cons: over priced for my requirents really, only the adjustable damping makes it worth it to me.

I'd recommend a cheaper set as I cant see them being much worse, also if you're seeing -90mm plus - ride will be pretty shite whatever the brand!

Also take peoples and manufacturers lowerage figures with a big pinch of salt, they're usually generous to say the least. We all know that sub 110 is impossible without chassis notches and anything sub 90 means driveshaft rubbing.

Make: AP Sportfahrwerke

Model: 6N

Height adjustment limits: ie; 30 - 75mm (apparently- think less if you take out the helper springs

Helper springs: Left mine in

Damping adjustable: No

Current ride height: 65mm

Ride Quallity: Quite stiff but apparently some of the most easy going coilovers for the money (does me fine for the 48mile per day commute)

Driven daily: Yes - done about 15,000 miles now

Price: £365 - Venom motorsport

Pros: Good quallity , well made , 2 year warranty , comfortable enough

Cons: cant really think of anything... I'm on 15" wheels so dont need it any lower....errrm they could be cheaper ??? lol
