6n polo never had a 1.6 16v engine in uk spec..

what engine codes are you comparing?

What engine did the 6n2 GTI have then out of interest

well... it was a 1.6 16v in the 6n2 gti...

Ahh, i thought so. Cheers

6n2 and lupo gti engines (AVY)(ARC)both had variable valve timing(vvt). the 6n2 sport and lupo sport engines (AFK), (AUB) etc had a more aggressive inlet cam, but the head to go for is the mk4 16v (AFH) as it has the most aggressive set of cams, and solid bucket tappits meaning it can handle the most power.

The inlet ports are the same on all 1.4 and 1.6 16v's , except the AFH , which has much bigger exhaust ports

^^^ the afh heads dont have solid tappets, they have hydraulic lifters...

I stand corrected!

sorry! its between the 1.4 16v mk4 engine and the 1.6 16v 6n2 engine,

so the exhaust ports on the 1.4 head are larger?

Yeah the AFH exhaust ports are bigger. There are a few people on here who have AVY/AFH hybrids (1.6 bottom ends, AFH head) as the AFH head is capable of handling higher power than the AVY head as the roller rockers are weaker than the hydraulic tappets on the afh

In said hybrid, do the internals of the block remain stock?

^^ yes, that's what i've done with mine, avy block with afh head, you do need to make a special custom stud for the timing belt idler though, and use the belts/tensioner/water pump from the afh engine... i've used a modified avy intake manifold on the afh head as it is better than the afh one. the only other thing you might need to do is swap the rear crankshaft oil seal housing for an aee/afh one depending on what gearbox you are going to use

My 1.6 16v is basically a 1.4 16v AFH with a 1.6 crank and rods. This makes a great 1.6 16v where everything just fits, with all wear parts and service parts remaining stock AFH.

so is there any chance the 1.6 16v exhaust manifold i have will fit the 1.4 16v AFH head? i.e stud pattern and ports?

yes but the ports on the exhaust manifold (1.6 16v) are far smaller than on the AFH head, I've ran it like that for 2k miles with no problems, but the car felt transformed after putting a custom AFH 4 branch on

Cheers saf good straight to the point info there haha! I'm sure i could port the manifold out to match the head.

Did you use the crank and rods from the 1.6 16v gti, ARC, AVY engine?

if you check on vagcat or etka, the crank and rods are the same on both engines ;)

 that good old faq section!

Just a case of sticking the 1.4 pistons on the rods then bolting em in then, ill have to look proper into this, looks like a good plan. people keep telling me turbo, but i dont fancy forged parts prices!

you neefd more info engine codes year of cars there comeing out of

we've already ascertained that mate, hes talking about ARC/AVY 1.6 16v lumps and AFH 1.4 lumps.
