Alright guys.

I've been thinking (usually not a good thing) and I've had a bright idea.

Some of you may know I did the Mongol rally in 2007 and the mongolia charity rally in 2008.

I was helping out at the mongolia charity rally launch last weekend, and it got me in the rally mood.

My thought was, how about a Polo rally to Timbuktu?

I just want to have a epic drive across the sahara desert.

There are people who organise a rally already, but there's no reason we couldn't organise our own thing.

It would be as simple as, get visas and time off work/school etc, jump in your car (which must be a polo), drive there, drive/fly back.

Anyone interested?

Just text my mate to see if he wanted to go two's on a Polo and drive it across the Sahara.

His reply:

"I'd go two's on a Polo and drive it across the U.S, Austrialia, the nicer parts of Europe (France, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Italy). Why do you always wanna go to places people die in!?

Because its more fun. Me and my friend drove a Polo around the nicer parts of Europe last summer Vs. Me and my friend drove a Polo across the Sahara desert last summer. Which story sounds more interesting to you?

Sounds a great idea, I would love to do that sort of thing before i go to Uni maybes, but sounds bloody expensive...

What kind of Polos are you thinking about, MK3 youngest?

Lowered cars + standard air intake + sand = fail.

But still, would LOVE to do it if I could find the money.

obviously you wouldn't take a lowered polo across the Sahara.

It does sound awesome, what kind of engine/suspension/tyre supplies would be needed - but there is little room in them for anything substantial.

I'd be taking a 1300 golf rather than polo, since i don't fit in the polo's.

Mk3 Youngest yes.

I proposed (for summer 2010) Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal then ending up in The Gamba.

My friend replyed:

"Those bodyguards that were on the news that had there bodies posted back to England were kidnaped in The Gambia you gay. I don't wanna be kidnapped and bummed by anyone with a cock bigger than mine!"

I didn't tell him about the military coup in Mauritania, and the fact French tourists were machine gunned at the road side there. He woulsn't like that

This, however, to me sounds like an adventure, and makes me want to go more. But I know I'll never get anyone to go with me. Apparently most people don't want to go to places where there's a high chance of getting shot.

The revised plan is Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara, Morocco, Italy, back home safe.

Which is a bit rubbish, but as long as I get to go to Africa and drive in the desert I'll be happy.

Ferries would be ~€900 (0r £770)

The trip would be ~5000miles, and 40MPG is ~500 litres of fuel (or £500)

£1270, add food and accommodation on top (call it £730 to make it a round number)

Total £2000-ish Split two ways (or three or four)

Then add car and equipment on top etc.

So a budget of £3000 would be adequate, you can then split it as many ways as you please.

Its that or a trip to chernobyl.

1300cc, harder taller springs, rally tyres. Golfs can go home.

I took a 1043cc polo to Mongolia. This is a cake walk compared to that.
