The DVLA have just told Redline that from 1st November 2008, it will be an offence for anyone to SELL a numberplate which doesn't meet the Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001 and doesn't conform to British Standard BS AU145d.

Until now, many supplyers of 'show' number plates simply advise their customers that non-compliant number plates cannot be used on the road and are for display purposes only. But under the new rules, it will now be an offence to supply any non-compliant number plates irrespective of any advice given.

So as of 1st November this year, we could well see an end to the number plate stands at shows selling show plates... that is unless the sellers in question don't mind becoming: "A person supplying number plates that do not conform with the Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001 and the British Standard BS AU145d (an offence under section 28 of the Vehicles (Crime) Act 2001)." and risk being nicked...''

I bet they are only doing this as the government probably can't find a good way to legally tax (apart from VAT) the sale of fancy plates

german plates are shit,,i got stopped for mine so had some normal plates made up with no badge etc and they just look cleaner and more simple.

What about 'truckers' plates??

I've only used legal plates till now,as i prefer them.

But i think its time to revolt at this facist attitude from the government.

I reckon sellers will just label them up as 'garage signs' or something. Or just register their buisniess off-shore or something

I got mine in 2003 when you couldn't even get the yellow rear versions. I don't get people with Puntos and Saxo's with German plates, i guess its just a sheep thing . Fair play for the Pug owners who i'm now seeing more and more with French plates though.

when this law comes in think of all the plate pressing machine up for sale on ebay I'm gonna get one and sell them and if i do what homer did no1 will know its me...

maybe its because in italy and france they also use pressed plates and maybe they have f bands, it bands, or no bands instead of d bands. personally not a fan of the bands or little circles but i think plain pressed plates look great on any car.

doesnt really matter how old the plates are or whether or not they were legal to buy when you purchased them

show plates are show plates, so yep they'll still be illegal
