Hi guys, was driving along earlier, and all of a sudden car fell into a pothole at a speed of about 25 mph, bit of a bang aswel. Pretty hard to avoid if I had have seen it because of parked cars either side so pretty difficult to avoid. Just round the corner there was a guy with a flat tyre and cracked bumper which was a result of this pothole, and when i was taking pictures to assist my complaint to the council, i had people pulling along side me saying stuff like, "that got me last week" , "that damaged my alloy wheel the other day" and so on. Today I got my tracking and camber done, and I will send the bill to the council and claim that the tracking and camber had to be re-done after going through the pothole. I also had damage to my front C.V boot, which I know for a fact was not there before, so I will claim for this, and also I will claim because my bottom arm bushes need replacing which could also be a result of this. I find it just shocking that something like this should be on such a busy road, especially when the rest of the road is pretty smooth, so wouldn't really expect something like this. After all the council tax we pay you would think they could keep our roads in good nick which we pay so much for to use. Pics don't look that bad as the pothole has filled a bit with loose rocks and stones, but if you drive over it you don't half feel it. Wouldn't have been as bad if it was on the normal road, but it was on a speed bump, so u you go up and come straight back down into the hole. Rant over by the way!

I'm in the same boat as you mate, apart from i got a kinked sub frame and a snapped drive shaft. got to ring the coucil monday morning first thing!

yeah it can, it punctured this guys tire in an astra. I think its due to the fact that he fel into the pot hole onto the sharp rocks and stones I'm not sure. Defo possible though.

Yeah its a rite bastard, I got told that if the C.V boot isn't replaced soon then the driveshaft will need replacing.

gti splitter doenst fit properly on the drivers side, so I'm gonna say that broke lol

mate of mine hit a pot hole on the brow of a humpback bridge causing a blow out on the rear drivers side, spun him ou and threw him into the side of a industrial unit, obviously totalled the car (absolutely immaculate, 17000 miles on the clock, black 205 1.9 GTI) and i think he got back in excess of 10k but then he suffered a few injuries himself. fortunately his mate was following behind and got pics of the hole etc because miraculously within 3 hours of the police clearing up, workmen were there filling it in despite the fact it had been there for over 2 months!!

I'm going to date the pictures i took, because that way they cant deny that there is a hole there because I'm surely not the first person to complain about it. I had to get my dad to block the road off whilst I was taking pictures and luckily i spotted the guy replacing his tyre, otherwise it wouldn't have sprung to my mind to make a complaint.

That pothole is a disgrace. Why the fuck hasn't it been repaired is what I'd be asking!

It's on Lidgett Lane, just outside Gledhow Primary School. Yeah I'm planning on editing it later on tonight after people have had a chance to read it. Hopefully no Leeds City Council workers on here

Oh need btw sam, got my tracking and camber done. Went to Just Tyres, they tracked the front 2 but couldn't align them with the rears because one of the track rods was seized, and they didn't have a blowtorch to loosen it up, so ended up getting it done at exhaust discounts. Would rather pay extra though to have it done at Just Tyres because the two guys who were there today were great, atleast they make conversation and are a laugh and not miserable. Really helpful guys!

so they should! Although I'm only 35mm down, i still have to go about 10mph over bumps because of my backbox, and its annoying for others when I have massive tailbacks because of it, and i start getting people tailgating me. Most of the problems with my car have been suspension related. God knows what its going to be like for me when I'm down 70mm.

Take a photo with rulers showing the length, width and depth, and also one showing it in relation to its surroundings. One with a ruler showing the exact distance from the kerb will help too, so they can't deny its existence! Did you get the details of the guy with the flat tyre? If a few of you piped up together you'd get more attention paid to you. Letter with photos to Yorkshire Post might be useful too its a topic they rather like...

i understand how you feel mate but youve got to understand eventhough your council tax should pay for road repairs alot of the money goes on education and healthcare. I know this because i am a road worker in shropshire, the counellors are wankers and in my experience only sort a problem out if it affects them or a family member!! defo send the letter in and urge any family or friends who use the road to do so aswell as this repair would take 10mins and cost about £50 in tarmac and labour!!

Yes. Council tax is there to support council funded projects. Vehicle Excise Duty, (formerly known as road fund licence) or road tax, is there to pay for road repairs. We do our bit by paying up, they should do their bit by maintaining the roads properly.

My dad knows the guy with the flat tyre, and he also knows the lady who said she ruined her alloy wheel. I remember my street ended up in the evening post. I don't know if you remember sam how bumpy alwoodley lane used to be, before they re laid it and put those chevron things in the middle. Despite the potholes people still used to power up and down it at speeds of upto 70 or 80. Its speeders paradise is alwoodley lane. Doesnt help that most of the cars whcih go up and down it are probably over 200bhp aswel haha.

Yes, and if they were informed of the road defect they would repair it, maybe a quick and easy phone call would resolve the problem. and then try and claim the money back for the phone call!
