I ordered some a month ago, sent my documents off the day after ordering. 3 weeks later still nothing, not even a confirmation email to say they had received my documents ok and now dispatched. So I feared the worst and emailed in asking if there was a problem.

They then tell me that they had sent the plates out, and that because no one was home they got sent back to their depot again. Supposedly they were sent via Royal Mail but no attempted delivery notice was ever pushed through my door.

Anyway, I wait another week thinking they would just resend now. I've emailed them asking where they are up to and they tell me that they haven't been re-sent yet because they received the plates back the day I had first emailed them (bit of a coincidence, but hey ho...).

They seem to have really bad customer service if you ask me, for a start they probably would have just sat on my plates for as long as they could until I actually chased them on it!

Sorry to hijack your rant Darren but I'm in a similar boat with regards to ordering some parts through a reputable car mods company 2 months ago ,the stuff ordered is from a company in Germany FK parts and coming via this company I'm dealing with .Every 3 days i phone to try and find out the latest and its always the same answer and i know i should just say i want my money back but the parts i want are only made by this one company :(

What gets me though is these companies are very quick to get yr money but when it comes to their side of the bargain its another thg and with this day and age i would of thought customer care should be right up there of priority .

Couldn't agree with you more, it's not the fact things come late, that I can deal with. It's the arsey and sometimes lack of respect companies have in regards to customer service.

I've been told my plates are now going to be put back in the post, recorded delivery via Royal Mail. So let's see if i get them this time round. At least I'm not paying for delivery if this is the second time they have been posted out (which I doubt!)

Dubmiester/tsr I live 2 mins away and never had a problem but that's probably because I collect I suppose . . .

When I had them done I took my documents into a nearby parts place, rather than send them off as I didn't feel comfortable doing that.

All they did was basically submit the info to Dubmeister and Dubmeister sent them the plates and I collected them.

I had no problems regarding getting plates the only thing I was pissed off was I had to travel 1hour 30 mins to get them but I thought they was really good! Hope you guys get them this time :-D

well from what you have said i think you are being a bit harsh on dubmeister, he has not done a thing wrong the problems are all with royal mail.

you paid, he sent.

they got returned to him saying you have not been to collect them. It is up to you to chase him, why should he chase you, the return to sender note tells him all he needs to know.

I dont know how you can blame him?

You will be even more pissed when mr plod comes and gives you a £60 on the spot fine for them

@DKnight: I see where you're coming from, I was polite in my emails, I simply asked questions.

I understand that it could well be Royal Mail's fault, in fact it probably is... problem I have is how they didn't just email me letting me know they had received my doc's and the plates were on the way so someone was ready to collect them the first time round? Every other company who send things out online seem to at least send one email out stating the item has been dispatched, even if it doesn't give me an estimated delivery day. There was no communication from them what so ever, I had to do all the chasing to find out information.

That was my biggest concern, as through my eyes it was as if they weren't arsed that they had my money but I didn't have my plates.

As soon as they see pressed plates youre gonna get fucked over, my mate had the exact same plates and got a £60 fine. Any run of the mill traffic officer will just see pressed plates and do you for them, pretty much regardless of whether or not you tell him they're legal. This is from my experience anyway, I am not trying to dispute the fact that they are legal, just saying there's still a risk.

So when your mate got pulled, he just accepted the fine did he?? If you ask the police officer to actually measure the size of characters used on the plate and test that it's reflective, it is legal.

To my knowledge and I'm pretty confident in saying this, it is not illegal to have pressed plates, it's just that 90% of pressed plates also have incorrect spacing, font size and/or font too.

So next time, tell your mate to get the copper to prove they are illegal before just accepting a fine.

It's not that easy to turn round to a copper and not accept a fine though. I know it isn't illegal to have them, I've even read a traffic officer's forum where they've been discussing the legality of dubmeister plates, an they're all in agreement that they are legal. But you'll find that a lot of officers won't know the difference between one pressed plate that is legal and one that isn't and you'll get fined. Of course you can appeal it, but in my opinion it's not worth the hassle in the first place.

Just trying to give a word of warning from past experience. :-)

Why do you want to do anything to your car when you spend most of the time sat inside it and can't see what you are driving?

But the metal pressed plates get shadows on them because of the pressed letters so you can tell.

Oh do they? Is this standard when you buy any form of plates? I wouldn't know because I've never bought plates before!

Then again... I'm still waiting on these dubmeister ones anyway.

And it will have the symbol on the plates to say they are legal. Forget what the thingy is called but it should be on there somewhere.

I got Dubmeister plates from UD last year for the rocco and Euro-pl8 ones for the polo from Vagfest in July last year too

No paperwork provided to get either or to say they're legal...

Had countless police cars behind me and never been pulled for them, got pulled in the rocco for apparently having no tax (which I did, damn DVLA!) and the plates weren't even mentioned...

In summary, if you buy legal plates, you'll probably be alright, if the police pull you it'll be for something worse! If you choose to run plates which are quite obviously illegal (i.e. D banded/font) then you'll get what's coming to you for running the risk

If I remember correctly the plates Dubmeister do are supposed to have some kind of British Standard which means they comply with regulations, meaning they're legal too. BS2016 or something like that is on them in tiny font.

How much of that would stand up if you got pulled I dunno, but I haven't been pulled thus far and to be fair I highly doubt I ever will just for having some plates that are made from metal but look exactly the same in every other way.

I guess until they bring a law in for the materials used to make them, there's very little chance you'll get pulled/fined for them.
