Kinda makes me think of a scimitar.

It would appear that VW took the ugliest pair of cars in the era, looked at the good bits on both and thought we won't touch them, who wants a cute round faced coupe with a cool curvy rear anyway?

Then it looks as if they thought they'll take the worst parts of either car's styling, the scirocco's front end and the ugly estate rear end of a passat and built that hideous monstrousity.

I mean what were they thinking, "lets go into direct competion with Volvo?" For that to work the boot would at least have to open fully.
