1.0 tuning. Something to pass the time

Featured Replies

I know its not worth it really cos it'll be minimal power gain for the amount of money and it'd be more worth while dumping a different engine in! (Which i plan on doing LOL) but wha can be done to the 1.0?

1.3/1.4 spi TB?

Chip?

GT cam?

Exhaust

Airfilter

How much poer from that 2/3 hp?

Howm about MPI system and a G-lader?? Surely it should be geet revvy??

Turbo it and have a Polo GTti tiny little turbo engine with stupid power!!

What would you do?

i'd blow it up and put a mpi in it :D

Bring it down to Hoopty Tech Garages and we can suck all the HP out of it

Well, I've only done the bigger throttle body mod and it's made a fair difference. I did make up an induction kit with an old cone filter, but cold running was an arse. I'm considering a GT gearbox atm... Dunno what else. Might drop an ABD in.

I have a polo ace chip, 4 branch , enclosed simota induction kit, and a jetex system feels a lot better than standard but with all the mods but has not made an amazing differance going to put the bigger throttle body on and a differant head, I know people say theres no point but its a project and anyone that has seen polo kris mark to will know that with the right mods they can become quick but obv never a g40 beater, Going to get the coupe on the rolling road soon before I look for a new head just to see whta the mods have actualy achieved I reckon 5 maybe 6 bhp should be interesting a good service always helps to.

This question pops up all the time lol , and there are always mixed opinions

If you put the bigger TB, 1.3 head and a different inlet manifold (can't remember what one) on, you'll probably be running about 60 bhp in total with all those mods. Which will make your 1.0 quite a nippy car, personally, I can't be arsed spending a lot of money on my 1.0, but anything that comes up cheap will be slapped on!

If you can be bothered, all this might net you some gains.

1.3 head

gk inlet

1.3 tb (poss 1.6)

gt cam

poloace 1.0 chip.

decat (don't bother with other exhaust stuff, unless youve got a 1.3 or gt exhaust knocking about)

Maybe with all that you could get 60hp out of it, but don't hold your breath!

why does a polo 1.0 doesnt worth tuning. and how much power could be gained from such a car if added a full KandN intake system, and a ziegal muffler,a throttle body spacer, and a programmed ECU ship.

Not being funny but a filter, back box and chip will probably add about 3 bhp. And why would you want to space the throttle body?

altering the length of the intake can alter torque figures, this is one of the reasons you can get different length ram pipes for old skool carbs, so maybe having a spacer gives similar results?

No I realise that but I thought it was already spaced a fair bit already, the rubber mounting block is like more than half an inch thick.

Or you can put a 1.3 SPI in and add 15bhp, or a 3F and more or less double the power.

i say we load it up with NOS!

is the only difference between the 1.0 carb/TB and the 1.3 or 1.6 the size of the jets? or is there more to it?

4mm difference in the bore of the throttle body between the 1.0 and 1.3 SPI. The injector is bigger as well.

anything bigger than the 1.3 or 1.4 one isnt worth using, unless the engine is highly (and expensively) tuned, in which case you wouldnt want to be using the std injection anyway!best thing to do when tuning a 1 litre on the cheap is:

1: get some decent suspension on, as the better handling will enable you to keep speed up

2: upgrade the brakes, so you can stop later

3:give it a damn good service and get the timing setup correctly

4: fit late spec 1.3 polo t/body or golf 1.4 t/body inlet manifold and poloace chip

5: fit a performance exhaust you can use with the bigger engines (you might need to make a reducer sleeve, but if you upgrade the engine at least the exhaust will still be useable!)

6: fit a gt cam, (i wouldnt bother with the whole head for 2 reasons, a: its a pain and expensive unless diy'd, and 2 the head is restrictive to give the engine better torque)

7:fit a 5 speed box (either the one litre 5 speed or a gt one, but again this one could be pricey unless diy'd)

8: make it light as possible

wouldnt bother with an induction kit unless you like the noise cos they really dont give much improved, in some cases they have actually reduced power output.

  • 3 months later...

I have a1.8 Throttle Body with Injection too ..

I found this made a large gain ..

Consumption is awful though ..

Another good thing ... Loose the rear seats and spare tyre .. that changes alot ....

Better handling

More power ...

If you put a 1.3 TB into a 1.05 AAU unit it'll add 15 hp?? Cool! :unibrow:

Is it a straight swap with all the ECU connectors and everything?

You can use the same ECU?

EDIT: who's got one they don't want??

Edited by Chuck Yoghurt

Completely straight swap yes.

I reckon it will add 5 bhp or so. It's the improved driveability and a power band that doesn't die after 5000 rpm that's the best part though.

Not worth telling the insurance though, right? I can't imagine the nosiest assessor spotting that! What do you think?

In theory you should...

In practice - like fuck I have.

Right, well, the decision has been made. How much do you think i'll have to pay for one?

I could go down the scrappy but I wouldn't recognise the difference between a 1.05 and a 1.3. (Are they called NZs?)

Can't remember what i paid for mine but it was no more than £30.

Try get one from a 1.4 Golf that way you know you are getting a bigger throttle body.

Once you get it, it shouldnt take more than half an hour to fit and afterwards the noise is hilarious hehe.

excellent!! :-D That's for me!!

Just tell me how can I tell if i'm looking at a 1.4 golf? Oh and what years' models can I use? :?:

Just looked on ebay. There are bloody tones of TBs for sale!

Someone help me I got no idea what i'm looking for! :-(
