Am after some gear ratios please, I broke my Elsawin so I can't check!

Ideally want 6n gearboxes, 1.0, 1.4, 1.6, 1.4 16v.

Can't remember any codes! Also an 8p box and a G40 box if anyone has the ratios?

Want to do some calcs and want a closer ratio'd box but kinda with a decent 5th for cruising!

Would look myself but I have totally ruined my elsawin

Hmm, I think I could get somewhere nearer just bolting a different box in to begin with, we shall see.

Why don't you just fit a 3F Engines gearbox dude? AHZ is it?

Close ratio's and plenty strong enough, you might even be able to quickly swap 4th and 5th from your current box into it for maximum MPG?

With the 6n being a fat little bastard, you need as much torque as you can get!

GT 1,2,3,4 then CL 5th, should bring 70 MPH cruising down to about 2800-3k rpm I think.

CL 4th pulls in mine to 90 (willl check the RPM next time I'm testing) 5th then tops it out at 109/110MPH put there is still the feeling as if theres more to give but i chicken out . but cruising at 70 in 5th still allows me to pull away if I want to.

5th is easy to swap, the others aren't. If you have the AEE engine you'll probably have the 4+E type gearbox which has wide spread gears (DXH, DKE, etc)

So you want a closer ratio box. I think a GT box is too short especially for a 1.6. G40 is another option but probably a bit too long. The CLJ from those PDFs is the one you want I think. Good compromise between GT and G40 boxes. With that box you'd be doing around 3500rpm at 75 I'm looking for the same box for my 1.4 GT as I think it would suit my needs pretty well too. If this 5th is too short, you can put the 5th in from the box you have now to end up with the same 5th as your current box but closer spaced 1-4 with a bigger drop in revs from 4-5

Other boxes with these ratios are:

CWV, DCK, DXN, DYH and ERC. They're fitted to polo saloons/estates more than they're fitted to hatchbacks though.

i had a replacement box on my aee and the ratios are much closer than original

Unfortunately it's very difficult to see the code when the box is fitted. If you know the box is original there should be a sticker in the boot with the code, if not there may also be a sticker in the original service book if you have it

I'm thinking of a box they use in the AFH's? Looking at the info third is shorter which is what I need!

I have a DCC and a DKF.

Looking at ratios, the first is the same in both, the DCC (1.6 box) is shorter ratioed in every gear, but the final drive is longer, making the whole box longer.

Maybe the 1.4 final drive in the 1.6 box could work??!
